A mystery novel always contains a mystery. One with a case, clues and suspects. Just like this one with the mystery of the dog that is found dead. But as the main character in this book sees the world in a different way than most of us do, even the normal everyday happenings seem extraordinary. Since they are not portrayed as the majority sees them and thus this captivates the reader as it is familiar yet unknown.

At the same time as the story gives a new outlook on everyday life, a lot of its events are quite predictable. The book itself starts of by saying that it is a mystery novel which immediately gives away three things, there will be a mystery to solve, the main character will try to solve this gaining clues and most certainly find the culprit. But the search for the culprit is often cut off by chapters written about thoughts or flashbacks that the narrator or the main character has, prohibiting the story from becoming too repetitive or monotone.

The story is written in a language easy to understand as the author rarely uses all too difficult words. Making the story easy to understand and follow. There are however occasions where some words could be unfamiliar, as for example when the main character is talking about math equations or problems. But these are often explained in the context of the chapter.

The book is not only a story written to entertain the reader as it could also be seen as a way for those who never have encountered anyone with autism or aspergers to understand it better as the book portrays the world from the view of someone with said diagnose. All in all it is a good story that differs from other stories of the same type and gives the simple concept of a mystery novel a twist.]]>

The story of “the Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon is quite unique compared to other books of the same type. This is because of the authors choice of writing from the perspective of a person with autism or aspergers as they see the world through different eyes.
