If you're expecting a book about friends and Chandler Bing this is NOT IT! and it's not fair to judge it because it isn't. I can't really say this was an enjoyable read, Matthew Perry comes off as an arrogant, selfish, self indulgent well...asshole, but also as a sad, lonely, wasteful person that threw away his best years in and out of rehab centers for his bad habits, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. That doesn't mean it was a bad book (although those time jumps interludes were super confusing at times), he puts himself out there alright and I can only appreciate his vulnerability and honesty, even if that makes him an unlikeable narrator. As someone who has struggle with addiction myself I know how bad it can be and how it brings the worst in yourself and I can only wish him good luck in his sobriety journey, looks like he needs it.

First half of this book has some of the best writing Stephen King has done in years, one of the most intriguing and exciting murder mystery thrillers I’ve ever read, but half way there it went from Fincher’s SE7EN to a bad-to-average X-Files episode. Now don’t get me wrong, like The X-Files I love schlocky SK, but just like in the Bill Hodges trilogy, this turn felt so out of place. I can’t described just how brilliant that first half is, I devour it on one sitting, so that turn of events felt like a cheap and easy way out, especially when a character from a previous SK novel comes into the story (not one I like very much on top of that); once you get there you know just how it’s going to end and it comes with a huge build up to an unsatisfying ending.
