Until I meet them.

Caden, Tyler, Jensen, and Lukas.
My new stepbrother and his best friends have suddenly become my everything.
Until they aren’t.

They think they can break me, but they’re dead wrong.
They wouldn’t have bet on me having someone else on my side, or in my bed.
These rich boys haven’t seen anything yet.

Their pretty lies are nothing compared to what’s coming though, and I’m going to need them to anchor me when I finally break.

Death is coming to those who deserve it, and I don’t care if I lose myself in the process.
Did I mention the local street crew being on my side?
No one will ever see me coming.

My name’s Rory Donovan, and I’m about to paint the walls red.

*Pretty Lies is a 75k word dark romance reverse harem novel. This is the first book in the series and it must be read in order. The first four books are Rory's, and the harem grows over those books, so other guys will be added as the story goes. It contain abuse and rape content, and the series will have m/m. Tiktok is again full of sponsored liars. This one was at least half decent. Or my standards are just terribly low. Like Auren’s. That’s the MC who is the golden, caged pet of King Midas the king who can turn things he touches into gold. She’s unbearably obsessed with this horrific abuser of a man .Once she leaves his castle and hits the road she actually has a personality and you can see that she’s just trauma bonded to him. For that reason I might actually read the second part. I also suspect that the rubbish Midas has no power, all of it is hers. I will be reading to see him get what’s coming to him. Did this book really need to contain the amount of sexual violence it did? I blame GRRM for this. It is so tiring.

<![CDATA[The Awakening (Zodiac Academy, #1)]]> 46261182 This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN B07SV21LFY

You have been selected to attend Zodiac Academy, where your star sign defines your destiny.

If you're one of the Fae, elemental magic is in your blood. And apparently it's in ours. As twins born in the month of Gemini, we're a rare breed even in this academy of supernatural a-holes.

Changelings were outlawed hundreds of years ago but I guess our birth parents didn't get the memo. Which means we're totally unprepared for the ruthless world of Fae.

Air. Fire. Water. Earth.

No one has ever harnessed all four of them, until we arrived. And it hasn't made us any friends so far.

As the rarest Elementals ever known, we're already a threat to the four celestial heirs; the popular, vindictive bullies who happen to be some of the hottest guys we've ever seen. It doesn't help that they're the most dangerous beasts in the Academy. And probably on earth too.

Our fates are intertwined, but they want us gone. They've only got until the lunar eclipse to force us out and they'll stop at nothing to succeed.

We never knew we had a birthright to live up to but now that we do, we intend to claim our throne.

We can't expect any help from the faculty when it comes to defending ourselves. So if the dragon shifters want some target practice, the werewolves want someone to hunt or the vampires fancy a snack then we have to be ready. But we've been looking after each other for a long time and fighting back is in our blood.

Today's horoscope: totally screwed.]]>

First of all Book Tiktok is full of sponsored liars. This book is reads like fan service anime. Without any of the good things that makes anime bearable. The MCs are constantly abused by badly behaved men and they just roll with it. All the abuses! Why are you looking at someone who stripped you caused nude pictures of you to be circulated with googoo eyes? The world building is so lazy, the school one big sexual abuse amusement park. Like even the teachers are sleazy with so much access to vulnerable students. Their principal taunted their enemies and painted a target on their backs, the teachers in the school are the most useless educators in the universe. Who is entertained by such? There’s not a single thing that’s attractive about the love interests in this book, how does anyone manage to write such ugly hearted men. They are all irredeemable except the one that’s a teacher which is so weird. The MCs are basically TSTL and not that likeable, Darcy is okay I guess. I won’t forget that one moment Tory internally talked down on her friend because he isn’t strong enough to protect them. Like excuse me? You’re overpowered and still salivating over abusers get over yourself.

I love the Protagonist. With Brandon Sanderson that’s almost par for the course honestly. Siris’s curiosity and naivety are so endearing. Possibly because he’s not actually so ridiculous he gets a bed in the Too Stupid To Live dormitory. He is however extremely good at what he does know and is very self aware.

Sanderson has no problem writing women either,Isa is a great addition to the book. She’s skilled and the perfect foil for Sirus’s innocence but also not boorish in that try hard manner that YA authors trying to write strong women end up crafting. The protagonist is attracted to her but it doesn’t overwhelm the plot. They are hilarious together, an important ingredient for well written camaraderie.

Brandon Sanderson shows up with yet another world in the Infinity Blade series. Ancient yet futuristic, Nier Gestalt type of thing. A hero is sent as a Sacrifice to rescue his people from the Deathless King. He then discovers that no one particularly was ready for him to win and killing the enemy is only the beginning of the fight for freedom . He gets a crash course in humanity and learns that freedom is not necessarily what the enslaved want.

So were back in this super advanced futuristic world and the apocalypse is nigh. Imagine a world where you're connected to an intergalactic internet that spans planets. The original team is split up and they are all going through their own trials and tribulations and facing off with the Shrike. Sol Weintraub's story is the most compelling. Filled with so much love and sacrifice...I don't think I will ever not tear up thinking about it.Imagine raising your child to a certain age, then watching regress with no solution. Martin Silenus gets on my nerve as usual. Colonel Kassad is looking for his one true love Moneta and the ultimate battle. Het Masteen never gets to tell his story. Father Lenar Hoyt is braving the pain of the cruciform. Brawne Lamia the brawny baddie is dealing with her connection to the AI world. The Consul gets to tell why he did the things he did, and goddammit I'm on his side!Gentrification and colonization will be the downside of a world with teleportation. Can we not have nice things?

So apparently I played myself by not reading any Dan Simmons book all these years. First of all, a scifi author that doesn’t use sexual violence against women for shock value? I’m shocked! I didn’t appreciate how tired I was of that trope until I realized that I was tense and waiting for it. So many good sci-fi plots in one book, it felt like eating a tin of assorted cookies. So post book one the story switches from school tournament setting to a galactic warfront and I loved it!!! Alpha Centauri but with a relatable hero. I felt for Darrow , I really did. He bumbled through until we got to the most devastating endings I’ve seen in a long time. I lost hope and I didn’t want to continue the series because I didn’t know what to expect from book three. It was really good. From Lykos to Villain military school I was hooked on the story and invested in Darrow. I was skeptical when the story turned into Hunger Games with rape and maiming but I was interested in seeing Darrow and his team of merry misfits win. I love camaraderie and the friendship power trope and I am completely unapologetic about it. I however, was annoyed when the book ended immediately after the tournament but in hindsight was the best thing ever. Pierce Brown did something with book two and I loved it.

Take my 5 stars Pierce Brown! TAKE THEM!!! This review is me coming on here to squeal about Pierce Brown. This is the best dystopian fiction book I’ve read in years. Top three best endings I’ve seen in my life. It’s not often that the final book in a series like this is the best installment but he pulled it off. Darrow And Mustang might be a bit too perfect but you know what? I like that in my heroes. I respect the way Roque and Cassius were handled. I like the way Pierce Brown writes women, there was no moment where I gave the book a long side eye and said “yep a man surely wrote this. I am now a fan for life, I cannot wait to see what he’ll write next.

At this point this has to be on purpose. All these books with stupid as can be heroines that only achieve by accident. What a bumbling dumb girl the main character is. I don’t even know where to begin. How does anyone who knew they were born to a magical destiny be so unprepared and plain stupid? More concerned about getting laid than finding her parents. Mouth before brain every single time. You’re in an office, a demon materializes in and you have to lay low. What do you do? Not do everything but shout “wow there’s a demon here!. Her guardian is also stupid. How do you not tell your charge that her closest friends are supernatural and her would be boyfriend is a bounty hunter for powerful demons? The irresponsibility. Boyfriends excuse for working for demons was the most trifling nonsense I’ve ever heard but mmmkay. She couldn’t even understand basic concepts of thier world? I freely admit that I don’t have the range for this type of theme. I despise cheating and abhor adultery. I absolutely hate Adele. She’s boring and bored, makes no effort while simultaneously believing that she’s better than everyone. She doesn’t like her husband but wants to stay. She is willing to ruin his health , his reputation, his life without making any effort to get help. That to me, is that. She’s trash. The last straw was how much of a shitty parent she was. I understand how society pushes women into marriages and motherhood but that really is not a child’s business or problem. I want to see people with sex addictions humanized and light shed on such conditions without making them into poor poor innocent victims but Adele is just very aggressively unlikable. 2 and a half stars for Slimani’s writing.

1. Having black wings is not normal.
2. Selling her soul to the demons was a mistake.
3. Lincoln Grey is the biggest *** she's ever met but not falling in love with him might prove impossible.

When angels fell from the sky to war with the demons that ravaged Earth, their combined powers infected humanity. Now, the humans are assigned one of two fates, being either demon gifted or angel blessed.

After wings sprout from Brielle's back at her awakening ceremony, she's sure she's an angel blessed celestial. It's not until she sees black wings that she realizes something is terribly wrong.

Having sold her contract at a young age to save her father's life means she should be bound for Tainted Academy. That is, until a fallen angel unexpectedly fights for her to be accepted into Fallen Academy, the elite school for those that inhabit Angel City.

She's immediately matched with her impossibly handsome celestial teacher, Lincoln Grey. Laying eyes on him, her first thought is that her time at the academy might actually be fun, but this theory quickly fades when she and Lincoln clash on day one. To further prove her admission into Fallen Academy is cursed, the entire school is thrown into chaos when an Abrus demon reveals that he knows Brielle's secret. Now, above all else, Lincoln must fight to protect her.

To his surprise, the only thing more difficult than trying to save her is trying not to fall for her.]]>

What on earth was she thinking when she wrote Shea. So let me get this straight she created a character that was Black And Latina, whose mom was a drug addict who sold her to demons for drugs , who is also a hypersexual wisecracking physically aggressive loudmouth oh dear God the racist stereotypes are pungent....who likes to twerk everywhere even when seated. TWERKING WHILE SEATED IS IMPOSSIBLE! Come on. Please, do better white people of the USA. It’s just terrible how no one seemed to notice. Then she threw in TWO gay best friends for the MC and had her be shocked by the existence of masculine gay guys. Deep sigh. What can I expect from an MC whose best friend is Latina but did not understand a word of Spanish.

First Daily book I've read and it was entertaining! Alex is absolutely lovable. There's this point where she drags her ex-husband to filth and I applauded! He deserved it and her friends and family didn't do right by her at all. A woman in this day an age who thinks her life is over at 31 because of a divorce though? i didn't buy it. I love the way Daily captured the alternating feelings of love and hate when someone you love hurts you. Alex's profession of Environmental Psychology was described in such a beautiful way throughout the book that i'll definitely be picking up another of Daily's books just to see her do it again. Her dating experiences were hilarious and over the top but so so entertaining. The end to me was a little choppy though. Maybe I was just really annoyed by Daniel's Actions and Alex's reaction. I dunno. 5 stars cause it was a fun ride

In a near-future city shielded from the elemental magic raging through the wastelands, seventeen-year-old Ridley steals from the wealthy and secretly gives to those in need—which is far less of a crime than the other thing she spends her free time doing: using magic.

Ridley's managed to stay under the radar for years, but the night she steals a gold figurine from the richest family in the city, everything starts to unravel.

A stranger follows her home and ends up murdered outside the antique store she lives above.

Her best friend—who definitely wasn't there—is accused of the crime.

And that family Ridley stole from? Their son just walked into her store.

As heir to the city's largest fortune, Archer Davenport represents everything Ridley hates. She'd prefer to stay well away from him, but he has a problem only Ridley can solve: Turns out that ancient figurine she stole could unlock secrets that will endanger many lives.

Which means Ridley has to get it back. Without revealing her own biggest secret.

As she and Archer journey into the hidden parts of the city, they'll have to put their differences aside and figure out how to trust each other. Because their true enemy is lurking in the shadows, moving ever closer, and if they don't get that stolen artifact back, it'll be their own lives that are at stake.

This would have been a great one. The world building is great , the conspiracy is lit. Unfortunately she had to go and put in the most stupid heroine I’ve seen all year. TSTL!!! Ridley is extremely ungracious. She’s not the first person to go through economic upheaval so having to watch her stew the whole book long...sigh. She kept spilling other peoples secrets, almost gave Laura up and why did Laura have to know about the figurine? She’s not quick in the head, how did she not realize that Archer didn’t have anything to do with the doctored video? She’s always arguing about things she clearly knows nothing about! She actually all but said “this is not true because I saw it on TV. Like ugh shut up and take in this information for a second, process it and don’t argue blindly.

<![CDATA[Mary B: An Untold Story of Pride and Prejudice]]> 36505861 Pride and Prejudice casts off her prim exterior and takes center stage in this fresh retelling of the classic novel.

I will tell you the story of how I knew myself to be plain and therefore devoid of the one virtue which it behooves every woman to have.

What is to be done with Mary Bennet? She possesses neither the beauty of her eldest sister, Jane, nor the high-spirited charm of Lizzy. Even compared to her frivolous younger siblings, Kitty and Lydia, Mary knows she is lacking in the ways that matter for single, not-so-well-to-do women in nineteenth-century England who must secure their futures through the finding of a husband. As her sisters wed, one by one, Mary pictures herself growing old, a spinster with no estate to run or children to mind, dependent on the charity of others. At least she has the silent rebellion and secret pleasures of reading and writing to keep her company.

But even her fictional creations are no match for the scandal, tragedy, and romance that eventually visit Mary's own life. In Mary B, readers are transported beyond the center of the ballroom to discover that wallflowers are sometimes the most intriguing guests at the party. Beneath Mary's plain appearance and bookish demeanor simmers an inner life brimming with passion, humor, and imagination--and a voice that demands to be heard.

Set before, during, and after the events of Pride and Prejudice, Katherine J. Chen's vividly original debut novel pays homage to a beloved classic while envisioning a life that is difficult to achieve in any era: that of a truly independent woman.]]>

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Chen described the angst of being an ugly child among beautiful siblings perfectly. She also got how being siblings does not make you friends or guarantee that you will like each other . Relationships need something to work with even with family. I took off one star for the character assasination. I’m not a die hard Jane Austen fan so I didn’t take it as personally as others but even I know that this calculating, wicked person cannot be Lizzy. Mr Darcy was too bumblingly awkward to be believable. Mr Darcy a cheat?pull the other leg sis. As for Colonel Fitzgerald well, I’ll take a good villain. Chen captured the desperation of being a plain woman so well so well it’s breathtaking. She did however take so many liberties with the original story , I doubt this book will become a cult favorite anytime soon.I hope she writes less trollish books but either way I will definitely be reading more from this author.

The dagger puts Saker on a journey to distant shores, on a path that will reveal terrible secrets about the empire, about the people he serves, and destroy the life he knows. The Lascar's dagger demands a price, and that price will be paid in blood.]]>

<![CDATA[The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1)]]> 127455 Ocean's Eleven, and entirely enthralling...

An orphan's life is harsh and often short in the island city of Camorr, built on the ruins of a mysterious alien race. But born with a quick wit and a gift for thieving, Locke Lamora has dodged both death and slavery, only to fall into the hands of an eyeless priest known as Chains a man who is neither blind nor a priest.

A con artist of extraordinary talent, Chains passes his skills on to his carefully selected "family" of orphans a group known as the Gentlemen Bastards. Under his tutelage, Locke grows to lead the Bastards, delightedly pulling off one outrageous confidence game after another. Soon he is infamous as the Thorn of Camorr, and no wealthy noble is safe from his sting.

Passing themselves off as petty thieves, the brilliant Locke and his tightly knit band of light-fingered brothers have fooled even the criminal underworld's most feared ruler, Capa Barsavi. But there is someone in the shadows more powerful and more ambitious than Locke has yet imagined.

Known as the Gray King, he is slowly killing Capa Barsavi's most trusted men and using Locke as a pawn in his plot to take control of Camorr's underworld. With a bloody coup under way threatening to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the Gray King at his own brutal game or die trying...

<![CDATA[Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1)]]> 55399 Vast legions of gods, mages, humans, dragons and all manner of creatures play out the fate of the Malazan Empire in this first book in a major epic fantasy series from Steven Erikson.

The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, surviving cadre mage of the Second Legion, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities of Genabackis, yet holds out. It is to this ancient citadel that Laseen turns her predatory gaze.

However, it would appear that the Empire is not alone in this great game. Sinister, shadowbound forces are gathering as the gods themselves prepare to play their hand...

Conceived and written on a panoramic scale, Gardens of the Moon is epic fantasy of the highest order--an enthralling adventure by an outstanding new voice.]]>

Yes you did research but did we really need to know all that? I never thought I would root for a fancy eagle drone to just die.

Purple Hibiscus 126381
When Nigeria begins to fall apart under a military coup, Kambili’s father sends her and her brother away to stay with their aunt, a University professor, whose house is noisy and full of laughter. There, Kambili and her brother discover a life and love beyond the confines of their father’s authority. The visit will lift the silence from their world and, in time, give rise to devotion and defiance that reveal themselves in profound and unexpected ways.

This is a book about the promise of freedom; about the blurred lines between childhood and adulthood; between love and hatred, between the old gods and the new.]]>
336 Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Ino 5 perfection I was wrong.Totally hooked well before I was done with the first ten pages. I related to Kambili so strongly. The appearance of wealth when you really have very little that is yours in every sense. The discomfort of shyness when your mind is filled with a thousand things you'd rather say. The awkwardness that comes with being broken by fear. It all felt so familiar even though her story had nothing to do with my life.
The sensations! I felt every emotion Chimamanda wanted me to feel. Hated Kambili's father, felt afraid for her brother while admiring him, exasperated by Kambili's mother, had a crush on her priest, strong love for her aunt and grandfather. I could smell and taste things! I know its probably because as a Nigerian I'm familiar with the sights and sounds of the details in the book but do you know what it takes for an author to make you Taste! I felt the heat and buzzing mosquitos. I felt the anticipation that comes with being a Christmas visitor in the village.
Reading the book again as an adult made me...understand her father. He really did love them in the way he knew best. He really did think he was doing the right thing by refusing to enable his father's "idolatry''. Unfortunate that he missed all the scriptures that would have told him he was so terribly wrong. As a Christian the oppressive nature of her father's religion really hurt my heart. I hate seeing Christianity being used as a weapon to cudgel people. Its not supposed to be that way but it's the truth of many people's lives and experiences.
Chimamanda Adichie is a national treasure. She taught me that the term ''first book'' is not synonymous with amateur nonsense. 5 stars!

I remember reading this book for the first time in January 2005.I had taken it to school after the Christmas holidays without reading it first because I had a bunch of other books to get through while I was at home. I had heard some of the hype surrounding the book and I knew it would have good exchange value with the other novel freaks...I worshipped everything white at that time so I'm pretty sure I wasn't expecting so much from her.

No! As a Christian i strongly reject the idea that Infidelity was handled in anything close to an appropriate manner in this book. When did Christianity ever mean you don't get to face the consequences of your actions? What on earth was happening with David's character. He cheats on his wife and whines when she finds out, even dared to blame her because she made him uncomfortable with her anger. Having a meet and greet with your with your former mistress in the middle of the night and having enough nerve to catch an attitude? I felt lightheaded for a minute. His Pastor friend!Didn't even suggest counselling for them ,spared not a dollop of empathy for the aggrieved wife. Husband never apologized for putting her through the humiliation and speculation that comes with being a cheating church leader's wife. A poster boy for the kind of Christian man you want to run away from, one with his head so far up his GI tract he cannot grovel to save his life. NO GROVELLING!Oh he actually told her he'd been working to earn her trust for the 8 years that happened...when he just told her about the affair. All this book did for me was make me feel sad for all the Christian women gaslighted by their spouses and church systems into writing off their pain and complaints as unnecessary after things like this in God's name. Maybe she wrote the book as a sort of twisted warning. 1 star for eliciting anger from me.

Much love to Jeff Wheeler. The way he weaves appropriate emotions into his writing. I missed Ankarette so much! I will always appreciate the way he handles relationships in this series. I'm not sold on Severn's though, it sounded too much like Stockholms syndrome. I always look for reasons to hate Elysabeth ;she's so selfish! She almost hurt Owen .Again. I'm happy it ended this way. Planetfall (Planetfall, #1) 24237785
Renata Ghali believed in Lee Suh-Mi’s vision of a world far beyond Earth, calling to humanity. A planet promising to reveal the truth about our place in the cosmos, untainted by overpopulation, pollution, and war. Ren believed in that vision enough to give up everything to follow Suh-Mi into the unknown.

More than twenty-two years have passed since Ren and the rest of the faithful braved the starry abyss and established a colony at the base of an enigmatic alien structure where Suh-Mi has since resided, alone. All that time, Ren has worked hard as the colony's 3-D printer engineer, creating the tools necessary for human survival in an alien environment, and harboring a devastating secret.

Ren continues to perpetuate the lie forming the foundation of the colony for the good of her fellow colonists, despite the personal cost. Then a stranger appears, far too young to have been part of the first planetfall, a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Suh-Mi.

The truth Ren has concealed since planetfall can no longer be hidden. And its revelation might tear the colony apart…]]>

<![CDATA[The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)]]> 2767052
Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death. The Hunger Games have begun. . . .

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.]]>

<![CDATA[Carry the Ocean (The Roosevelt, #1)]]> 23110300 Normal is just a setting on the dryer.

High school graduate Jeremey Samson is looking forward to burying his head under the covers and sleeping until it’s time to leave for college. Then a tornado named Emmet Washington enters his life. The double major in math and computer science is handsome, forward, wicked smart, interested in dating Jeremey—and he’s autistic.

But Jeremey doesn’t judge him for that. He’s too busy judging himself, as are his parents, who don’t believe in things like clinical depression. When his untreated illness reaches a critical breaking point, Emmet is the white knight who rescues him and brings him along as a roommate to The Roosevelt, a quirky new assisted living facility nearby.

As Jeremey finds his feet at The Roosevelt, Emmet slowly begins to believe he can be loved for the man he is behind the autism. But before he can trust enough to fall head over heels, he must trust his own conviction that friendship is a healing force, and love can overcome any obstacle.

Warning: Contains characters obsessed with trains and counting, positive representations of autism and mental illness, a very dark moment, and Elwood Blues.]]>

How to Be a Heroine 17801094
With this discovery, she embarks on a retrospective look at the literary ladies—the characters and the writers—whom she has loved since childhood. From early obsessions with the March sisters to her later idolization of Sylvia Plath, Ellis evaluates how her heroines stack up today. And, just as she excavates the stories of her favorite characters, Ellis also shares a frank, often humorous account of her own life growing up in a tight-knit Iraqi Jewish community in London. Here a life-long reader explores how heroines shape all our lives.]]>

Lies We Tell Ourselves 15828079
Sarah Dunbar is one of the first black students to attend the previously all-white Jefferson High School. An honors student at her old school, she is put into remedial classes, spit on and tormented daily.

Linda Hairston is the daughter of one of the town's most vocal opponents of school integration. She has been taught all her life that the races should be kept separate but equal.

Forced to work together on a school project, Sarah and Linda must confront harsh truths about race, power and how they really feel about one another.

Boldly realistic and emotionally compelling, Lies We Tell Ourselves is a brave and stunning novel about finding truth amid the lies, and finding your voice even when others are determined to silence it.]]>
