Це книга, прочитана за два вечори з величезною охотою й не меншим задоволенням. Спершу просто сподобалася назва, потім хтось цитував з неї дуже атмосферні осінньо- настроєві описи й тоді вже потрапила до рук. Стиль Записок - як подув лагідного вітру у спекотний день чи, цитуючи Винниченка, як відчуття шовку проти шкіри, чи дзенькотлива прозорість повітря, або ж ошатна його засніженість сивими клубами морозу. Одним словом - взірець стильової й мовної бездоганності. А ще урбаністичне обрамлення оповіді, в якій події відбуваються в місті, а герої - професори, адвокати, оперні співаки. І вади в них та пристрасті - типово інтелігентські, коли все хочеться раціоналізувати й осучаснити за допомогою розуму, але на заваді стають почуттєві причини. Через це мені записки перегукнулися ще й з Томасом Гарді, герої якого викликають просто шквал емоцій, аж до відрази й ненависті) Винниченко, здається, це саме та література, якої ми не вивчали в школі в той час, коли хотілося, щоб українська класика була не про збідованих селян, а про пристрасті з життя світських героїв у великому місті. Перфектно!

А ось далі - суцільна розкіш: міські - або ж якщо сільські, то все таки шляхетські й освічені родини - потерпають від модерних проблем, руйнування традиційного штибу сім'ї і суспільства; дівчата страждають вже не тільки через нерозділене кохання, а й через справжні феміністичні гризоти - бажання освіти, мистецтва, подорожей, активної участі в житті загалом.

Різноманіття стилів, краса мови, чуттєвість, таке багатство лексики, що аж дух перехоплює. І замальовки місць: Ялта очима Лесі Українки (і розбещена дурисвітка з москви - її ж очима), Мароко - крізь погляд Софії Яблонської, Чернівці Ольги Кобилянської. І моє улюблене в класиці - описи природи, які нарешті для мене перевершили вікторіанців. Мабуть, треба було не тільки подорослішати, щоб почати по-справжньому насолоджуватися українською класикою. Потрібне було і усвідомлення того, що українців вже не вперше намагаються знищити - і через це хочеться триматися й цінувати цих шалених авторок, повернутих для великої читацької аудиторії в часі чергової війни росії проти України.

Також ця збірка помічна ще в одному. Можна намацати наступне своє читання української класики, спробувавши на смак стиль стількох різних письменниць. Я придбала "Товаришок" Олени Пчілки. Хто б міг подумати, що колись ми купуватимемо Пчілку задля власного задоволення - і це за можливості придбати будь-яку класичну чи сучасну книгу, будь-якою мовою, в м'якій обкладинці чи гардбек, паперове, чи електронне, чи аудіо видання.

В страшний час живемо, але ж колись точно опишемо його цитатою з класика: “Ц� був найкращий час,це бувнайгіршийчас (...), дні віри, дні безнадії, пора світла, пора темряви, весна надій, мороз відчаю, у нас всебулопопереду, у нас попереду нічого небуло…”]]> 4.67 Шалені авторки. В цю книгу настільки ж тяжко входити - наскільки потім неможливо від неї відволіктися. Важко вчитатися з двох причин: через Віру Агеєву і Марка Вовчка. Віра Павлівна у передмові переповідає сюжет першого ж оповідання - тож довелося відкласти читання, поки все забудеться. Забулося швидко - але ж як довго читалося власне це оповідання Марка Вовчка. Ну не побачила я в ньому жодного фемінізму, натомість 80 сторінок нудьгувала над описом нещасливої закоханості і руйнування доль трьох дівчат, одержимих 'високим чорнявим'. І це все на тлі сільського побуту, яким усі переситилися ще в школі.

Читала українською. Дуже школа, що українське видання не підв'язали на ŷ до всіх інших, бо англомовні відгуки дуже зацікавлюють. Не знала про цього 20-річного француза, який перший роман опублікував у 16 років, у 20 помер, а посмертно видали його другий роман. За коротке життя він встиг і бурхливе особисте життя прожити, маючи стосунки і з відомими жінками, і Жаном Кокто; і написати скандальний автобіографічний роман про стосунки підлітка з заміжньою 18-ною, чий чоловік перебуває на фронті. Скандальний роман мене не дуже вразив, а ось цей - більш нюансований, психологізований опис стосунків. Тільки переклад від Апріорі настільки кучерявий, що хочеться перечитати англійською і краще зрозуміти хід думок героїв).

І ще це дууууже повільне читання, яке, проте, надихає на подальше ознайомлення з класичними текстами

Альманах «Перший вінок», за словами Уляни Кравченко, за своїм змістом став «документом життя української жінки». І коли ще й лірики пишуть прозу - це завжди безцінні бонуси, як-от милозвучні нанизування суголосних звучань, різноманітні алітерації та інші мовні штуки, від яких мимоволі починаєш мліти: 'по колінах прошкандибала млість і налляла халяви холодним оловом', 'тішачись з розмаїтих, розмаринних, розбіглих запахів', 'жита, що їх хорунжий вітер жене', 'картата плахта полів'. А якщо ще лірику притаманне почуття гумору, то з укладеного ним глосарію можна довідатися, до прикладу, що рядно - це 'універсальний плед, що служить за простиню, скатертину, килим і демісезонне пальто', 'борщ - українське консоме з капустою', 'коваль - селянський інженер-металург', 'хата - селянська вілла на Україні', 'кум - український кузен'. He studied in Vienna, where he met Joseph Roth and Rainer Maria Rilke, and he served in the Austro-Hungarian army in the First World War. With the outbreak of WWII, Wittlin was evacuated to New York, where he died in 1976.

Philippe Sands is Professor of Law at University College London. Lviv is the heart of his latest book, East West Street: On the Origins of Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity.

Diana Matar is a photographer whose work investigates issues of history, memory and state sponsored violence. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, she has won many prizes and her work has been exhibited in institutions around the world.

She inspired Coleridge, Wordsworth and a whole new generation of writers, including her own daughter, who � with her young lover Percy Shelley � read Wollstonecraft’s work aloud by her graveside. At just nineteen years old and a new mother herself, Mary Shelley composed Frankenstein whilst travelling around Italy with Percy and roguish Lord Byron (who promptly fathered a child by Mary’s stepsister). It is a seminal novel, exploring the limitations of human nature and the power of invention at a time of great religious and scientific upheaval. Moreover, Mary Shelley would become the editor of her husband’s poetry after his early death � a feat of scholarship that did nothing less than establish his literary reputation.

Така чудова пригоди читати художні книги, написані фахівцями в певному напрямку гуманітарних наук. Читання "Компаса" можна порівняти до досвіду з романами Умберто Еко, який невимушено жонглює Середньовіччям, чи Агатангела Кримського, який і поезію арабського поета зацитує, й анекдот про нього розповість, і вдасться до філологічних екскурсіі та філософських роздумів. Так само роман француза Матіаса Енара - як міні енциклопедія зі сходознавства. І яка ж вона захоплива.

Востаннє я гуглила стільки імен, читаючи "Чоловіка в червоному халаті". Різниця з "Компасом" у тому, що тепер доводилося гуглити не чоловіків-денді, а авантюрних, спокусливих, харизматичних, зачарованих Сходом жінок-дослідниць, підприємиць, археологинь, фотографок.
