Finley's path to finding God, was sweet and genuine and believable, and above all, heart warming.
Now to the actual book: Finley was brilliant. Though she did have some of the same bad-ass traits of a lot of YA protagonists, she also had a realistic vulnerability about her. Moreover, her relationships with each character was brilliant and original- as was each charcter. Though in a lot of books, the characters just serve as a way to either advance the plot, or document the awesomeness of the heroin, each character here was real believable and their own person;
The romance was good too. Beckett was lovable and hilarious. I also loved that despite it being a major part of the book, the romance didn't dominate Finley as a character, and her quest to find herself was treated with respect by the author.

Being Irish, and seeing this book in my recommendations, I was a tad hesitant. I was use to American stereotypes of Ireland, and that's what I expected. Reading it, one of the things that occurred to me was that the author must have spent some time in Ireland herself. As soon as it said that Erin was dressed the same way people in America, I mentally slapped myself for my preconceived notions of this wondrous book, because apart from a few slip ups (saying the LC was during spring, referring to terms as semesters) this book captured modern Ireland wonderfully.

The mystery itself, of course, is contrived, illogical, unlikely and with as much holes as that weird cheese, and makes me suspicious that the author is just writing whatever words come into their head so that their book has a so-called plot.
So, after a lengthy pep talk to my mirror, I finally sat down and read it- without getting up once until the end. Because, The Body Finder, thank God (or more accurately, the writing skills of Kimberly Derting), is none of the above. The romance has substance, and is believable, sweet- but not to the point of sappy, and, at some points, I admit, hot.
The mystery itself is fast-paced, clever, in-depth and slightly creepy (in a good way).
My one problem is that- though virtually everyone else in the book did, including her dad, her uncle, Jay, Claire and Chelsea- I found that Violet herself was slightly lacking in character. Having said that, it was a great enjoyable read. This had been a must read for me for a very long time, but I continued to put it off for the simple reason that it was, in it's core a mystery-romance.
From my experience with that subgenre, all the books seem to be gratuitous, unrealistic, racy "romance" and then, oh maybe, a few lines dedicated to the "mystery" which will, of course, after a series of "badass" action's be solved by the protagonist. The mystery itself, of course, is contrived, illogical, unlikely and with as much holes as that weird cheese, and makes me suspicious that the author is just writing whatever words come into their head so that their book has a so-called plot.
So, after a lengthy pep talk to my mirror, I finally sat down and read it- without getting up once until the end. Because, The Body Finder, thank God (or more accurately, the writing skills of Kimberly Derting), is none of the above. The romance has substance, and is believable, sweet- but not to the point of sappy, and, at some points, I admit, hot.
The mystery itself is fast-paced, clever, in-depth and slightly creepy (in a good way).
My one problem is that- though virtually everyone else in the book did, including her dad, her uncle, Jay, Claire and Chelsea- I found that Violet herself was slightly lacking in character. Having said that, it was a great enjoyable read. Not one of my favourites, but definitely worth while, if only for the perfection that is Jay Heaton.
