I’m about as straight-laced and by the book as they come. They call me Numbers, the man in the office of Burgers and Brew, the restaurant and bar I co-own with my friends. Routine and spreadsheets, that’s how I spend my day. I’m a creature of habit, from the designer clothes to the same girlfriend, I crave the pattern I’ve become dependent on.

Until said girlfriend breaks up with me for the umpteenth time, and I find refuge in a woman who is my exact opposite.

I’m intrigued and completely out of my element, yet that doesn’t stop me from spending time with her. Even if I consider her off-limits, something about her calls to me.

The problem is I just might lose a friend because of it.

BJ

Most of the time, I would never look twice at Isaac Thompson. He’s all suits, ties, and expensive dress shoes, and I’m…well, not. My time is spent at the tattoo studio I work at, day and night, designing badass ink for clients who want the best. I have no room in my life for a relationship, nor do I care for the messes they always create.

Until Isaac finds me stranded on the road, and I end up inviting him inside.

Now, I can’t stop thinking about him. He’s so different from any man I’ve ever known, which is why we decide to keep it casual and fun.

Let’s just hope I can keep feelings out of the arrangement, so I don’t get burned.]]>

The message—simple yet utterly life-changing—offers a glimmer of hope to her dismal existence. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, and if she takes it, it could change everything.

Mari’s immediate sense of unease is eclipsed only by her curiosity—elicited from the supposed fan on the other end of the email. Unsatisfied despite doing her due diligence, and with no way to discern the legitimacy of the sender, Mari takes a leap of faith and replies.

What harm could come from one innocent message?

Soon, as she comes face to face with her ‘number one fan, it’s all too clear things are not what they first appeared. Now trapped by a villain far more sinister than she could’ve crafted herself, the fate awaiting her is inspired by the darkest depths of the monsters in her own novels.

In order to escape and survive, Mari must use the strength of the heroines she’s spent years writing about. But this villain has spent years inside her worlds, too.

How will she defeat an evil who has learned from the best?

For fans of Misery, YOU, and Behind Closed Doors, million-copy bestselling author Kiersten Modglin brings us a haunting tale of obsession and survival in the form of a writer’s worst nightmare come to life.]]>

Ryder is six-foot five, built, opinionated, rude…and sexy as hell. But he's still the enemy.

Briar's new hockey co-captain has his reasons, though. The men's team just merged with a rival program, leaving Ryder with an angry roster where everyone hates one another's guts. To make matters worse, the summer coaching spot he's angling for with the legendary Garrett Graham is out of reach after he makes the worst possible first impression on his hero. So, really, this compromise with Gigi is win-win. He helps her make the national team, she puts in a good word with her dad.

The only potential snag? This bone-deep, body-numbing, mind-spinning chemistry they're trying to ignore. It's a dangerous game they're playing, but the risks just might be worth it.

I loved all of the off campus & briar u books and I got so excited any time one of those characters would pop up. Up All Night (Mount Hope #1) 202550604 What happened to my predictable life?

I had a stable life as a fire captain in Seattle, married to one of my best friends and raising two awesome kids. Now, my kids are grown, and my marriage is toast. I'm solidly past forty and back in my tiny hometown of Mount Hope, Oregon, filling in as a firefighter. My future is one big question mark keeping me up at night.

Also keeping me up? The short-order cook at Honey's Hotcake Hut.

Denver might be close to my age, but we're total opposites. The former rock roadie runs from stability, never puts down roots, and lives for the moment. Point in case, we barely speak before he invites me into his shower.

I've never been with a man, but my fresh start has me trying all sorts of new things—including Denver’s shower.

Our future? Hopeless.

Denver doesn't do repeats, but I convince him to have a fling since we're both in Mount Hope short-term. The more time we spend together, the deeper our friendship and bond grows. Our time together outside of the bedroom, reveals a caring side to the grumpy cook. Even better, my sunshine-y optimism softens him like butter.

Should a fling give me these deep feelings? Nope.

Worse, the feelings are mutual. Big decisions loom for both our futures, and our time together grows short. I might have Denver's heart, but his trust is far harder to win. He's the answer to all my question marks, and I need him to believe in us. Can I convince him to give our love a chance?

UP ALL NIGHT features a grumpy/sunshine pairing for a forty-something firefighter on a path of self-discovery with an UP ALL NIGHT short-order cook. It contains loads of first-time feels with sexual awakening and exploration with a heaping helping of personal growth and deep connection for this opposites-attract couple.]]>

Finding out those closest to me don’t see me as the great guy I think I am not only kicks me in the gut, it makes me question everything.

Until that happened, I didn’t think I had many regrets in my life. Now, I have nothing but regrets. And when my NHL team is bought out, and the new owner makes his presence known, my existential crisis kicks up a notch. Because he might be my biggest regret of all.

Parker Duchene.

I made his life a living hell in high school, and now he’s inserting himself into my career to repay the favor.

With everything in my personal life already on the line, I can’t risk hockey too. I need to figure out a way to play nice with the new owner.

Parker

I bought Colorado’s NHL team to honor my late father. I did. Only reason.
Emotionally playing with one of my many high school tormentors is a nice bonus though.

Connor Kikishkin may be the one who made me the target for years of name-calling, but I’ve always wondered if my hatred for him bordered too much on the obsessive side to truly be classified as hate.

Infatuation is probably the right word for it.

Now his whole life is in my hands, and I can’t wait to see him beg for my mercy. Seeing Mr. Popular find his humility will definitely ease the grief from losing my dad right? Because right now, that’s all I have, and I need to hold on to it so I don’t crumble.]]>

I really enjoyed this and had a fun time reading it. It was really hard to put down at times. I really really loved the first half (or maybe more) the end didn't keep my attention as much, but it was still really enjoyable. I appreciated this one didn't have as many annoying cameos from past characters like other books. (There was some, especially with the brother, and some in the epilogue but not a ton like has annoyed me in past books)
The set up for the next book sounds really good, but it also really reminds me of the exact same premise from the most recent Sarina Bowen hockey book.

Catch Me (Kitchen Gods #2) 58462267 Chef Wyatt Blake is finally ready to move on from his thankless job. He gets no wiggle room, zero praise, plenty of abuse, and on a good day, he might only spend twelve hours in the Terroir kitchens. A friend of his recommends a private chef position, but despite the boost in pay, Wyatt doesn’t want to babysit some spoiled, rich LA family.

Imagine his shock when the family isn't a Kardashian clone, but Ryan Flores, the only professional baseball player to ever come out of the closet.

Ryan is also at a career crossroads. His team’s management wants to see his more responsible side, which means no more late night hookups and no more adrenaline-charged stunts. When his agent suggests he find a fake boyfriend to give him an air of domesticity, he’s only reluctantly interested.

Until Ryan goes to a local bar and spies the cute private chef he’s supposed to be interviewing the next day. Maybe a quieter life wouldn’t be so bad, as long as Wyatt is part of it?

Wyatt believes Ryan could be more than just a crappy boss, but he isn't sure about leaving the kitchen for the life of a professional boyfriend. Especially when he wants the reality so much more than the fantasy.

Catch Me is a 85,000 contemporary m/m romance, and while second in the Kitchen Gods series, can be read as a standalone.

I usually don't read series out of order, but I started the food truck series & read Wyatt's brothers book and I really just wanted to go back and read Wyatt's book. The premise of private chef & celebrity sounded really good to me, but this just didn't really hit like I was hoping to. The forced proximity of being a live in private chef wasn't a big part of the plot. And the random fake dating thrown in was only OK. I don't think I'll read anymore of this series, but I am excited to get back to the food truck series.

Clayton Aldrich is everything I’m not, and everything I despise. He’s rich, never had to work for anything a day in his perfect life, is the pretty boy on campus, and is always doing everything he can to get under my skin. But when we’re forced to become partners I have no choice but to set my predisposed feelings for him aside. However, as the season progresses, two things become abundantly clear. There’s more to Clay than meets the eye, and my feelings for him don’t appear to be so black and white.

My entire life has been mapped out for me since the day I was born. Major in business, dedicate every moment of spare time to volleyball, win the Olympics, and when the time comes, take over my father’s company. And the only part of that plan that didn’t make my skin crawl was playing the sport I loved. Rockwell Campos, the infuriatingly cynical man I feel an inexplicable draw toward whenever he’s near, thinks he has me all figured out. But, when we unexpectedly become partners our senior year, Rocky shows me there’s more to life than sacrificing who you are and who you want to be in order to be part of a family. Sometimes the families we find are stronger than the ones born in blood.

The two of us may share the same goal, but the question remains is our strong side, strong enough?]]>

Whiskey Neat (Last Call #1) 215355858 I want a commitment like I want a rash so why can’t I get the bossy twink with pretty lips and plenty of snark out of my head?

Anyone who spends time with me knows two things. 1. If I want something I get it, which is how I end up back in my old college haunts, buying a dilapidated bar with my five best friends and staring down the barrel of an unknown future. 2. The idea of settling down makes my skin crawl, and that’s how I made it to forty with zero serious relationships in the rear view mirror.

At least I’m smart enough to hire the right people. Enter Salem Barlowe, the prettiest twink who ever twinked and my personal kryptonite. Physically he’s everything I like but our personalities couldn’t be more at odds. I didn’t want to like him with all his sass and acting like he runs the place, but someone tell that to my...Uh, you get what I’m saying.

As if my hands aren’t full enough figuring out how to run the town’s only gay bar, my nights are filled with a man younger than me, bossier than me, and definitely prettier than me, and like a finely aged whiskey, Salem should be enjoyed slowly, savoring every complex note.

We just have to keep it casual. No problem. I can do casual with my eyes closed.

Whiskey Neat is book one in Last Call, a contemporary series set in the New Onyx universe. You can expect the antics and bond of six long time friends, the shenanigans happening at a quirky gay bar, a commitment phobe with a penchant for sweet guys, a bossy twink with mad top energy who doesn’t have a sweet bone in his body (or does he), the eternal f*ckboi has finally met his match, you can come home again vibes, midlife glow ups, an easter egg or two, and plenty of steam.

At Moby’s Bar, there aren’t any rogue white whales to harpoon, but they are serving up plenty of D Drinks, folks. Come on.]]>

Except it turns out Rowe’s ridiculous falsehoods are surprisingly enchanting. The heart of gold beneath his borrowed tux makes even a jaded businessman like me start to believe in fairy tales. And there’s no faking the heat between us when the man’s in my bed.

But when it turns out Rowe’s lies conceal a secret that threatens the company I’ve spent years building, I have to choose: say goodbye to the sweet pretender I’m falling for, or risk everything for a man who just might be the prince of lies.]]>

<![CDATA[Batting Style (Franklin U 2, #3)]]> 208940381 Blaise
There are a few things I know for sure: I’m gay, I want to do costume design for film and television, and a supportive family is what other people have. Oh and fate’s not my biggest fan. That’s fine, though—who needs fate? I’ve got friends I love, a welcoming community, and a plan. Graduate college? Check. Build up my portfolio? Whenever I can. Impress industry pros? Done. Save the money for my dream internship? Working on it. All I’ve gotta do is stick with the plan, and that internship is mine next year.
And then Jordan Marks walks into my life, and my plan turns into a loose guideline. Suddenly I’m learning about baseball and giving away shifts at work so I can watch him play. My goals are the same, but maybe there’s room in them for the world’s sweetest athlete.

Jordan
I’m pretty sure the gods of baseball don’t care if I wear a suit on game day, but Franklin U and Coach do, so when mine rips, replacing it is an urgent mission. That’s how I meet Blaise Warner and my “I guess I could be bi musings become full-blown “I wanna learn to handle a bat demands. Blaise is smart, talented, and has goals and he’s more than happy to teach me a new batting style.
But as we go from casual to more, the things I never mentioned—like my dads connections in the entertainment industry—become heavy secrets. Plus, while our friends know we’re dating, nobody else does. That’s not fair to Blaise, but do I really want to be the latest queer college ball player?
I don’t get a chance to figure it all out before things fall apart, and now we both have to decide what our real priorities are.]]>

So much of the relationship building happens off page. We get a lot of details about Blaise’s character growth and his work in costume design. We get a lot of Jordan’s character story with baseball and his future after college. And those plots were fine. But there ɲ’t actually much of them together. So much was off page.

This biggest author sin of all- the first kiss was off page. I’m a huge fan of a well written first kiss scene. Why didn’t the author include it. Just a throwaway like “I kiss him, like we have done many times before

So many chapters started with “the last few weeks have been going great we did this and this and this but none of it is included on page. Just throwaway sentence references. It felt like almost all the relationship building happens off page.

When they said I love you for the first time it was completely out of no where. I thought maybe the edible hit me harder than normal and I somehow missed a couple chapters. It really went from throwaway lines of relationship development to I love you out of no where.

Even the epilogue is mostly about their career journeys and not the relationship.

Also without having read the Joy series by the author, I was so confused. It kept referencing Joy universe, Joyville, and joy inc. without ever saying what they are. I was so lost until I went back and read some blurbs from the authors Joy series and realized it’s a theme park. I think it’s supposed to be like Disney with both theme parks and movie production. Idk why the author just assumed everyone would know what that meant. It should have been explained if she wanted the book to read as a standalone.

I feel a bit bad giving this two stars because I’m in my nice era but it just felt so incomplete. It almost fell like it was written in a rush and the author hoped no one would notice if everything happens off page. ]]>

The kitchen: it’s my domain, where I create the best burgers in the Midwest. I’m the man behind the grill at Burgers and Brew, the restaurant and bar I co-own with my best friends. Every night, we’re packed, the demand has never been this high. It’s the only way I want it, thriving and pushing myself to be the very best.

Then she started her new business across the street from mine.

The one woman who always got under my skin, who pushed me to be better. Lyndee was my biggest rival in school and my biggest regret.

Now, she’s in town, and as much as I try, I just can’t stay away.

I want her.

Lyndee

A new start: that’s what Stewart Grove means for me and my brother. He’s the one who pushed me to take the chance on opening my own bakery. I am ready for the long hours, the grueling schedule, and the hard work it will take to be successful.

I ɲ’t at all prepared to come face-to-face with the man across the street.

An almost kiss in college with the world’s most infuriating man has haunted me for the last decade. Now Jasper’s here, and I don’t think I can resist him.

Raze (Riven, #3) 42274594 Sometimes the walls we build to save ourselves have to come tumbling down.

For the last ten years, Huey has built his life around his sobriety. If that means he doesn't give a damn about finding love or companionship for himself, well, it's probably better that way. After all, the last thing he wants is to hurt anyone else. Until Felix Rainey walks into his bar, fresh-faced, unbearably sweet—and, for some reason Huey can't fathom, interested in him.

As the eldest of five kids, Felix Rainey spent his childhood cooking dinner, checking homework, and working after-school jobs. Now in his twenties, he's still scrambling to make ends meet and wondering what the hell he's doing with his life. When he meets Huey, he's intimidated . . . and enamored. Huey's strong and confident, he owns his own business—hell, he's friends with rock stars. What could he ever see in Felix?

As Huey and Felix get closer, the spark catches and soon they can't get enough of each other. But Huey's worked hard to avoid intimacy, and Felix threatens his carefully constructed defenses. Huey realizes he needs to change if he wants to truly put his past behind him—and build a future with Felix.

<![CDATA[Don't Bang Your Stepbro (Rules We Break #3)]]> 181848081 I'm not one for rules, but Don't Bang Your Stepbro is kind of a no-brainer.

Until I wake up naked in a Vegas hotel bed with my stepbrother, Beckett, each of us with a hell of a hangover and a matching wedding ring.

We've already made a huge mistake, so what's the point in denying what's been simmering between us for ages?

Might as well enjoy the honeymoon, right?

But what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Or at least, it's supposed to.

With a hometown of family and friends who see us as brothers, not lovers, we have to find a way back to who we were before this snafu. But some boundaries can't be uncrossed. You don’t bang your stepbro, but maybe…maybe when he’s your husband…you do.

Don't Bang Your Stepbro is Book 3 of the Rules We Break series about a group of friends in a quirky small town. There will be gossip, innuendo, and nosy neighbors who will put these stepbros and their secrets to the test!]]>

<![CDATA[The Cocky Neighbor (Corio Heights #5)]]> 75625130 What do you do when you can't stop thinking about your new boss?

Eric couldn't ask for a better life. He has amazing friends, a great job, and the freedom to go home with whoever he wants that night. He couldn't ask for more, because he never wanted more. Relationships were for people tired of the excitement of the unknown, and that certainly wasn't him. Life was perfect...except for the appearance of his new utterly annoying, ridiculously dressed boss who is set on making his job a living hell. Eric wants nothing to do with the man, so why does it seem like he can't escape him?

Liam came in with a mission, and that is to finish his job perfectly. His brother tasked him to stabilize the new hotel line their family's company acquired, and he couldn't fuck this up. He doesn't need distractions, especially in the form of sexy, kind, and hot-headed men like the hotel's manager. Liam is determined to keep his distance, but it doesn't help when the man keeps wiggling under his skin. Maybe it's time to stop trying to fight this attraction and find another way to release the extra tension?

The Cocky Neighbor is an enemies-to-lovers M/M romance that features two men who get on each other's nerves but can't seem to keep their hands off of each other and discovering that love can be freeing. It is the fifth book of the Corio Heights series and can be read as a standalone but will be more enjoyable when read as a series.]]>

Down in Flames (Down Home #4) 60044786
Michael Whittaker survived two military tours and more tragedy than any man could bear, but it was his wife’s death that broke him. The rugged widower has sworn off relationships. Celibacy might make him cranky, but it keeps everyone safe.

Especially young West Owens, his new ranch hand.

West is wholesome and untouched. Only twenty-eight to Michael’s hard-earned forty-six. A man, when Michael has only ever wanted women.

When West begs for experience between the sheets, Michael can’t resist the temptation. Celibacy is overrated, and being with another man? Underrated.

But West is looking for more than a roll in the sheets. He’s looking for love…and that’s one thing Michael will never give.

His heart can’t take any more pain.

Ugly duckling West Owens knows a thing or two about survival, and despite being a virgin, he’s far from innocent.

He isn’t the sickly boy he once was, but every day is a battle in the small town that’s coddled him since birth. When the man he secretly pines for is injured, West leaps at the chance to move out from his oppressive family’s thumb and into another man’s bed.

Michael Whittaker might be old enough to be West’s daddy, but there’s nothing fatherly about the way the sinful, flint-eyed cowboy looks at him.

Nothing paternal in his rough hands and weathered face.

But as West’s confidence grows, he gives Michael an ultimatum. He won’t be satisfied with scraps of affection.

West wants all of him…and he’ll be merciless until he gets it.

Boy-next-door gets the hottie in this age gap, first time, gay-for-you romance between a hard-as-nails cowboy and a sunshine hero looking for redemption. This is the fourth book in the “Down Home series but can be read as a standalone.

Happy Ever After guaranteed!]]>

On to the actual review, this book was kind of weird. I guess Michael & West had something happen, were both hospitalized and during their hospitalization they looked after each other and bonded together and got feelings for each other- and then West ended up running away. But the book doesn't start until after all that, once West is gone and Michael goes to track him down. The entire part of them in the hospital and growing close is not even in the book. Not even a single flash back chapter. Why would the author start the book in the middle of the story? Didn't she think maybe the audience would like to know what happened while they were in the hospital that started this all? I had a hard time connecting to the romance because most of it happened off page. I kept waiting for a flashback chapter that never came. Oh well.

When a picture of me in a compromising position is posted online, for the entire world to see, my agent sent me here to escape the limelight.
But here, it’s different from my crazy, loud, glitzy life. It’s quiet and peaceful. No one seems impressed with my celebrity.
And no one is less impressed than the sexy, aloof member of the cleaning crew. He couldn’t care less who I am or why I’m here.
He’s convinced I’m one of the fortunate ones—and I suppose I am. I’ve had it all—big houses, the best care, money, fame, and shallow adoration . . . but I’ve never been loved.
I’ve never known if people like me for who I am underneath it all or just for my money and fame.
And to me . . . that seems awfully unfortunate.]]>

Recently graduated at twenty-six, and two months behind on rent, Oliver Barnes is desperate. So desperate, in fact, that he applies for a job in the Greed district of Hell’s Pentagram. But when he misses his train and, subsequently, his job interview, he stumbles, instead, upon a strange little coffee shop in the middle of Purgatory’s barren desert—and into an unexpected opportunity.

It isn’t the job he came to Hell for, but maybe it’s exactly the job he needs.

As he navigates the demon dimension and tries to survive the ridiculous shenanigans of his unholy co-workers, Oliver soon falls head-over-ass for a tentacled lawyer with electric fingers and a deadly-sharp grin. Together, they discover that, sometimes, love and happiness can be just a train ride away.

As the rightful heir to the Maryno family dynasty, Toni grew up with clear expectations of who he was supposed to be, and more importantly, who he ɲ’t. Growing up a constant disappointment isn’t a childhood experience he recommends, but he’s come a long way from the little boy who could never measure up to his family’s toxic standards. At twenty-nine, he’s finally proud of the man he’s built himself into, and while the routine of his life is simple and, sure, sometimes lonely, he’s content.

Or so he thought.

Enter Jude, a human from across the veil, who ignites something in him that he’s never allowed himself to indulge, and Toni can’t wait to burn. While the spark of attraction is instantaneous, he knows it’s going to take more than a romp in the hay to win the human over. So Toni quickly sets to work, proving to Jude that home can be found in the most unexpected places, that chosen family is always worth fighting for, and that their love is far from small.

When 2024 started, I set a goal of reading 200 books (down from 2023s goal of reading 250 because that was a bit of a struggle). I thought 200 would be easy after reading 250 in 2023 but I did not anticipate life getting so busy and me struggling to finish 200 books!

So much happened in 2024-

I joined two amazing book clubs. The silly goose book club has been the best! I love everyone in it so much and I absolutely love our texts & zooms to discuss books & everything else. Read books with them I never would have read on my own (my first historical books!) So excited to renew our membership for another year! Also, a monthly mystery book club which has been so fun. Love catching up with everyone every month and having a chance to chat!

I also joined an embroidery group. Embroidering is such a solo hobby that it has been so wonderful to have a group of people to discuss needle sizes, how many strands of thread to use, and which stitches are best with. lol. Keeps me busy and love always having people to talk to.

And speaking of embroidering- my little art hobby has completely blown up this year. I found myself with such a long wait list and so many people reaching out to buy my art, it has been incredible. My little art instagram reached over 1000 followers! I know it may not sound like much, but the fact that there are 1000 people on this planet who want to see my art means everything to me.

And finally, after being a stay at home mom for four years, 2024 was the year I decided to go back to work. It has been absolutely incredible. I feel blessed to say I love my job and look forward to going, even though it does cut into my reading & embroidering time.

With how busy my 2024 ended up being, I am going to start my 2025 goal at 100 books. If I get ahead I can always change it, but I want a low goal to start so I'm not feeling pressured and I know as I continue to work and make art, I will have way less time to read this coming year.

Honestly, that is my only goal. Just read 100 books. I don't want to make any goals about what I read, because I just want to read what I want, and not read what I don't want. (No more historicals haha) I am looking forward to another reading year of discovering new books & authors and of course making new friends along the way!

Happy 2025 everyone!!!

<![CDATA[The Backup Plan (King Sports, #1)]]> 216832670
Failing to make it in pro ball left me absolutely devastated. Baseball has been my life, my dream, but it’s time to move on.

Becoming a sports agent was always my backup plan, and now that I’m interning at the biggest queer-focused firm in the country, I’m doing my best not to let my bitterness toward baseball affect my future.

That’s really difficult when I’m assigned to babysit Kelley Afton, hotshot rookie pitcher for Philly. He has everything I ever wanted, and he doesn’t even appreciate it. I didn’t become an agent so I could soothe the ego of diva athletes.

His constant need for validation from others frustrates me to no end, but that’s probably a good thing. Because if he didn’t have that, I’d find him irresistibly my type.

Attraction could lead to crossing lines which would put my position at King Sports in jeopardy, and I can’t have that.

I don’t have a backup for my backup plan.]]>

One hot moment in a hidden storage closet. One kiss. No consequences.

But if you get that close to a man with fire in his eyes, you’re gonna get burned, and I was no exception. One taste of Grey Blackwood ruined me for life.

The way Grey sees it, I was the one who did the ruining. I humiliated him. Wrecked his life. Destroyed his future.

Doesn’t matter that he’s clawed his way back and then some. Doesn’t matter that he’s already top of the Wall Street food chain. The man’s ruthless. Heartless. And he likes his revenge served cold.

Now he’s taking down the companies owned by every frat boy who did him wrong. And when he comes for my family’s company, the quiet life I’ve built for myself far away from Manhattan comes crumbling down, too.

But when Grey’s standing in our boardroom, threatening a hostile takeover and demanding I negotiate on behalf of my family, I don’t see an enemy. I see the chance I’ve been waiting for.

The chance for another night in his arms, and hopefully a whole lot more.

Let the negotiations begin.

Hostile Takeover is a full-length, standalone novel.

I’ve never had regrets. Not until Joey Manning.

The bills keep piling up and the pressure to get my sisters through college before we’re evicted is always on the back of my mind. Whoever said life was for living, clearly forgot that living’s expensive.

Art de Almeida.

My boss.

The one man I shouldn’t flirt with, but I can’t seem to stop. I want to get under his skin. To leave him panting for me. Which wouldn’t be such a bad thing except that he thinks I’m straight, and I’ve never bothered to correct him.

<![CDATA[Always and Forever: A Chaos Station Collection]]> 34260043 Chaos Station (Chaos Station #1), Zander Anatolius and Felix Ingesson are reunited after nine years apart. Zander believes Felix was captured and executed by the enemy in the years long Human-Stin War. Felix believes Zander was swallowed by a black ops program, probably never to surface again. Their reunion, therefore, is a rather profound event and the basis for the five-book Chaos Station series.
That's not where their story begins, however.
Collected here are the extra stories written alongside the Chaos Station series. "Graduation" and "Reunion" are set before the adventure begins, "Kiss the Guardian" and "Salute to the Sun" during the action, and "Honeymoon" serves as an epilogue.
Because so many readers expressed an interest in having a piece of Chaos Station-and maybe because we also wanted something for our bookshelves-we decided to make these stories available in print.]]>

This was super good but also kind of super unrealistic. I still don't understand why they had to fake date, why did he need to pretend Reg was his boyfriend in order to bring him on the tour, couldn't he have just said this is my friend and he is coming on the tour with me? Also, a majority of this book just takes place in hotel rooms, it would have been nice to get a bit deeper into the musician side & also all of their adventures on tour stops which were talked about but never shown.
Other than that, I really loved it. Loved how sweet they were together. Such a fun read.

<![CDATA[Defensive Zone (Chicago Thunder #3)]]> 202036700 Zach
Since I was six years old, my world has revolved around two things: Carter Lockwood and hockey.
We made a pact in college before we turned pro to always put each other first. To make each other our priority, but being in love with your straight best friend can make that hard, especially when you have to watch them fall in love with someone else.
I don’t want to break my best friend's heart to save my own, but I need to put some space between us to save our friendship.
Only this time, it’s not just the defensive zone I’m protecting, but also my heart.

Carter
From the moment I met Zach Reid, we were inseparable.
Nobody really understands why I always wanted to be with him. Our relationship is what some people call codependent, but he’s been my favorite person for over two decades, and life is always calmer when he’s around.
But something changed between us over the summer, and I started to see him in a different way.
Then the pact we made in college started to fall apart, along with my football career.
I don’t know what happened or how to make it right, but there’s one thing I know for certain.
I’m lost without him.

Defensive Zone is a childhood best friends to lovers sports romance featuring a hockey player and football player. It includes unrequited love, a bi-awakening, mutual pining and all the Thunder found family vibes.

When a hot guy falls into my arms at a party, I’m down for some naughty fun. Until I realize he’s way too drunk for anything to happen. Thankfully, we agree to meet up the next day.

One near-kiss later, I discover Theo has no idea I’ve been hitting on him. He thinks we’re hanging out as buddies, and to my great regret, says he’s straight. How did I misread this situation when I thought he was giving me all the right signals?

Theo
Perry thinks I’m a nine a nine! Sure, I’m not into dudes, but it’s flattering that someone as attractive as him thinks I’m hot. Despite the confusion, Perry and I click and agree to keep hanging out. The more time I spend with him, the more I realize there’s a part of myself I’ve been ignoring. One that’s super bi and wants Perry as more than a friend.

Trying to study with him makes things hard for me…below the belt. Unfortunately, his abandonment issues have him open to a fling and nothing more, while I’m catching feelings in a big way. If I was rating this as a story about found family and wolf packs and growing up I would give it a 4/5. I loved all the characters and the setting. Loved the found family vibes. Loved the way werewolves were written. Loved the bond within the pack. This part of the story I really did enjoy.

If I was rating this as a romance novel I would give it 2/5. I really went into this expecting a romance novel, and the way so many of my friends have given this five stars had led to me to believe this would be the best romance ever told, but there was really barely any romance. I think if I went into this book knowing its a book about a werewolf pack with a small side plot of romance, I would have appreciated it better. I had high expectations for the romance. The characters are both young kids at the beginning, then they are separated for three years/a big chunk of the book. (Minus one random boner scene lol) By the time they are back together and there is any romance in the book it is 80%. What little romance it had was good, but it felt like too little too late. By 80% when there was finally romance, I was more invested in the wolf storyline and wasn't interested in the romance any longer. I felt really let down about this. And I understand the whole series only has a tiny side plot of romance, so I'm not sure if I'll continue.

I also really disliked this author's writing style. It is written so choppy with random flash backs in the middle of scenes. The sentences are short and choppy. The writing took away any emotion and made it so hard to connect with the story or the characters. There was one scene that should have been emotional and moving, where Ox's mom is dying, but there is a random flash back in it that really ruined any emotion the scene may have had. (Also all the memory flash backs were weirdly about bubbles in ears lol) I will say that at 60% I decided to give the audio a try and that greatly improved my reading experience. Something about this authors writing style and back and forth plot works so much better as an audio. I wish I would have listened to the whole book, I think I would have liked it more. The only downside with the audio is it really makes the authors repetitive use of the word "said" jump out at you. I didn't notice as much on the ebook, but switching to audio every page was "He said..." "I said..." "He said..." "I said..." There are so many different words that could have been used instead of said every single time. (2161 times to be exact lol)

To end on a positive note, I absolutely loved Jessie. I really feel like the author wrote her character to say out loud exactly what the reader is thinking. I kept getting frustrated with the cryptic way Thomas would speak and how no one questioned it. And Ox never said "give me more information you speak so cryptically!" Every time he said "ok". Finally Jessie comes along like "why do those people speak so weird?" "why do those people act so weird about you?" And when she learned about werewolves and went to yell at Ox, it was the best she said everything to him I had been thinking. I really appreciated her character.]]>

In Every Universe 220112828
Now, he was in a strange apartment in Texas, and Cameron was telling him that they not only were not married and had never been romantic, they were still playing hockey. Cameron and Zacky were playing on the same line in the NHL.

Cameron Vesper would do anything for his best friend, including nurse him back to health after hitting his head hard on the ice. But Zacky didn’t just have normal concussion symptoms. He was convinced he’d lived a parallel life, where the two of them were both retired and married. Cameron couldn’t stop thinking about the two of them being married. He could picture it.

But as Cameron warmed up to the idea of their friendship becoming something more, Zacky became more determined to leave him behind and get back to his own universe. To his actual husband. Their friendship had always been simple, straightforward, steadfast. Now it was something neither of them recognized.
In Every Universe is a friends-to-lovers MM standalone romance novel with an amnesia plot and an HEA.]]>
207 Hannah Henry Jamie 2 The blurb mentions amnesia and also waking up in a parallel universe. I was really excited for some type of sci-fi/paranormal love story about waking up in an alternate universe and trying to find your love.

But - that isn't what happened and the parallel universe is barely touched on. Zacky wakes up with memories of three years from a "parallel universe" and no memories of this last three years, and no one ever questions it, everyone accepts it so easily. Zacky never freaks out and tries to test theories about the universe. He never tries to see if there are things he knows that are only possible to know if he really is from another universe. He never even does a google search about the school he remembers working at. There is really nothing about the alternate universe in the book, its such a non-factor. And the blurb even says that he gets desperate to return to his original universe, but that never happens at all in the book. He never questions or tries to get back. And Cameron just accepts it like "you're from another universe, ok cool." And the NHL isn't concerned about letting someone with significant memory loss play hockey. No teammates question it.

The romance itself was meh, but I was honestly too disappointed about the amnesia/alternate universe part that I barely gave it much thought.

Sorry this is turning into a rant. And I should have known, knowing this author is known for her short and sweet low angst books- but I still was let down. I'm now desperate for a "trapped in another universe" romance novel.]]>

Felix Ingesson has returned to his duties as the Chaos’s engineer with Zander Anatolius, his ex-boyfriend-turned-broken-super-soldier, at his side. Hope means something again. But there’s nothing Felix can do to battle the alien poison flowing through Zander’s veins, or his imminent mental decline. With each passing day, the side effects of Zander’s experimental training are becoming more difficult to ignore.

When the ruthless Agrius Cartel seeks their revenge—including an ambush and an attempt to kidnap the Chaos’s crew—Zander is pushed over the edge. He can no longer hide his symptoms, nor does he want to. But hurting Felix when he’s not in control of himself is Zander’s worst nightmare—when it nearly happens, he agrees to seek help. Even if that means trusting the unknown.

As Zander places his life in alien hands, Felix appoints himself his lover’s keeper. And though he tries to be strong, he can’t ignore the fact that he might lose Zander…forever this time.]]>

<![CDATA[Burning the Midnight Oil (Copper Lake, #3)]]> 205160010
It should be easy, right?

Wrong.

When I moved in with my sister over summer break, I had no intention of returning to college in the fall. A work trip for her meant a lot of time alone for me with her husband. Boone Stanton. World famous bull rider and way, way off limits.

A few late night deep conversations between the two of us, only the midnight sky our witness, and suddenly, I can’t look away. Can’t keep my mind off of him.

It’s in the way he works around the yard, sweaty and shirtless. The way his eyes soften and he leans into his playful side around his daughter. And it’s in the way he makes me feel seen. The way he’s slowly chipping away at my exterior without even realizing it.

Then one night I see something I shouldn’t. Something that makes my mouth water and my heart race. Except when he catches me, instead of stopping and reprimanding me, he keeps going.

Now, I have the opportunity of a lifetime but it means going on the road with him. It means living in even closer quarters than before. It also means doubling down on keeping my hands to myself and my gaze away from his dark, observing eyes.

But I’m only human, and it’s only a matter of time before I crack. Before I give in and do something I can’t take back.

Something that could cost me everything.]]>

Chaos Station 216540089 “You’re not real. Felix Ingesson is dead.

The war with the alien stin is over, but Felix Ingesson has given up on seeing his lover, Zander Anatolius, ever again. Zander’s military file is sealed tighter than an airlock. A former prisoner of war, Felix is attempting a much quieter life keeping his ship, the Chaos, aloft. He almost succeeds, until Zander walks on board and insists that Felix isn’t real.

A retired, broken super soldier, Zander is reeling from the aftereffects of his experimental training and wants nothing more than to disappear and wait for insanity to claim him. Then he sees footage of a friend and ally—a super soldier like him—murdering an entire security squad with her bare hands and a cold, dead look in her eyes. He never expected to find Felix, the man he’d thought dead for years, on the ship he hired to track her down.

Working with Felix to rescue his teammate is a dream come true…and a nightmare. Zander has no exit strategy that will leave Felix unscathed—or his own heart unbroken.]]>

If you saw me walking down the street, you’d think I was pretty ordinary I wear the typical crisp, white nursing uniform, my hands are scrubbed clean and you’d have no reason to believe I was anything other than a good citizen. A good nurse.

But looks can be deceiving. You shouldn’t trust me because I don’t even know if I can trust myself.

Now I stare at the reflection in the mirror dark smudges under my eyes and blood on my hands listening for the sound of police sirens.

Because the truth is I had to do something terrible. I broke all the rules a nurse should follow. I wanted someone gone so badly. And now they’re dead because of me.

I’m looking over my shoulder everywhere I go because I’m sure someone knows my secret. Then when my home is broken into I know one simple truth: this isn’t over yet

It’s only the beginning.

The police are the least of my worries now. But to save myself, am I going to have to kill again?]]>

Special Agent Ty Grady is pulled out of undercover work after his case blows up in his face. He's cocky, abrasive, and indisputably the best at what he does. But when he's paired with Special Agent Zane Garrett, it's hate at first sight. Garrett is the perfect image of an agent: serious, sober, and focused, which makes their partnership a classic cliche: total opposites, good cop-bad cop, the odd couple. They both know immediately that their partnership will pose more of an obstacle than the lack of evidence left by the murderer.

Practically before their special assignment starts, the murderer strikes again this time at them. Now on the run, trying to track down a man who has focused on killing his pursuers, Grady and Garrett will have to figure out how to work together before they become two more notches in the murderer's knife.]]>

The story may have been fine, but it was really the authors writing style that did not work for me at all. The POV kept jumping back and forth so I could barely keep up with whose POV I was in. Then the dialogue would say "he said" I had to reread some paragraphs several times because I didn't know which POV I was in and which "he" was saying something. Felt overly long because there would be paragraphs of text inserted between what each character was saying which made their dialogue feel really choppy. None of their conversations flowed naturally and with the weird POV skipping they were hard and confusing to read at times.

And all they ever did was bicker and get injured.

It was starting to feel like a chore to read this book. I started skimming and every time I put it down I really had no incentive to pick it back up. And like I said, the story may have been fine, but this authors writing style just really does not work for me.]]>

Scene Queen (The Court, #2) 202481377 Note to self: just because he's hot and funny doesn't change the fact he's annoying AF.

Hooking up with my irritating as hell neighbour wasn't on my agenda for the week, even if he is ridiculously gorgeous with a smile that lights up my life. His music is too loud, he’s too nosy but I can’t stop myself from wanting more than a taste.

It was only supposed to be a one time thing, but now Rhys seems determined to charm his way into my world. And when he gets his nose broken at a rock concert, I'm the one who comes to his rescue.

But there's no time in my life for a relationship. Juggling drag, a paramedic career, and helping with my sister's kids has already pushed me close to burnout, and I'm walking a fine line between survival and exhaustion.

I've always been the one helping everyone else and I can't remember the last time I put myself first.

Maybe it's time to cause a scene and go after the thing I really want: a chance with the sparkling man next door who has terrible taste in music.

Hired by the Enemy 218541688 Liam

I’ve landed my first big assignment with Elite, and it has the potential to be a financial game-changer, so I’m determined not to screw it up. All I have to do is pretend to be a wealthy CEO’s boyfriend on a sun-kissed tropical island for a week. How hard can that be?

Unfortunately, I’m met at the airport by an unexpected blast from my past: Matthew O’Conner. The nerd who lived next door to me growing up—also known as my lifelong nemesis.

This job just got a whole lot more complicated.

Matthew

My blood runs cold when I spot Liam sauntering through the airport doors. Of all the people in the world to show up to be my fake boyfriend for a week, why did it have to be Liam Jamieson? Mr. All-American Charm. The jock with a smile that melts everyone—except me. We’ve been at odds since childhood, trapped in an endless cycle of pranks and one-upmanship.

And now we have to pretend we’re in love? This is going to be a complete disaster.

Or is it?

It turns out Liam and I have both grown up since high school. And maybe, just maybe, we never actually knew each other to begin with.

The Geek Who Saved Christmas 58663801 His grumpy neighbor needs some holiday sunshine

Gideon Holiday is the perfect neighbor. Need a cup of sugar? Spare folding chair? Extra batteries? He’s always ready to help. And he’s waited years for his hot, grumpy, silver fox neighbor, Paul, to need him. For anything. But this December, Gideon would be happy if he could just get the Scrooge-like Paul on board with the neighborhood holiday lights fundraiser.

Paul Frost has no intention of decking his halls or blazing any Yule logs. Even if his spunky bowtie-clad neighbor does look perfect for unwrapping, Paul would prefer to hide away until December is done. But when his beloved younger brother announces an unexpected visit, Paul needs all the trimmings for a festive homecoming—and fast.

Luckily, Gideon is there with a color-coded plan to save Christmas. Soon Paul’s hanging lights, trimming trees, and rolling out cookies. And steaming up his new flannel sheets with Gideon. How did that happen?

It’ll take some winter magic to preserve their happiness and keep these rival neighbors together longer than one holiday season.

The Geek Who Saved Christmas is a low-angst m/m holiday romance with a guaranteed happy ending. This grumpy/sunshine, neighbors-to-lovers, found family tale features two heroes in their forties figuring out that maybe their sexily-ever-after was right next door the whole time. It stands alone and is not connected to any of the author’s other universes. However, it does contain a heaping helping of the same emotions and steamy moments readers have come to expect!]]>

I joined The Order and became a vampire hunter for revenge, but I never would have guessed that my job would entail baby-sitting the vampire heir to the most powerful clan in the world.

And if she thought I was going to break like the other hunters she has been through... she has another thing coming to her.

Keir

I hate hunters... but I hate my prick of a father even more after I learned that he had worked with the Order to get one to guard me at all hours of the day.

Even after I had been through all of The Order's top hunters, they still insisted on sending one more.

It was useless though, they would all break eventually.

Whether it was sex, money, or power none of them could resist the temptation, even if it meant breaking our contract.

And I couldn't wait to prove The Order and my father wrong.

Echo 182821077 This is a special edition of Echo which includes bonus material not included in the original, and a different cover.

The Devils of Vitality always hit their mark.

Rabbit Trace is a musical prodigy with a secret.

Ever since an event that took place a year ago, he gets terrible stage fright before every performance. With a famous mother who's dedicated her entire life to her craft, and the weight of her expectations heavy on his shoulders, Rabbit is only one panic attack away from crumbling. He knows it'll be easier to escape if he stops running from the memory of that night, but he's stubborn and doesn't want to remember something so horrible his mind thought fit to erase it for him. Monotony has helped him make it through, and he's settled into a dull routine that keeps his mind occupied, the worst of the attacks limited to just before performances. That is until one of the infamous Devils of Vitality suddenly takes notice and decides to invade his life, whether he reciprocates or not.

Baikal Void has many titles.

Each of them comes with a responsibility attached to it. Future Dominus, head of the Vitality Brumal Mafia, is just one of them. He's always known he'd one day have to take the crown, he just never realized it'd be so soon. With his father dying and the inevitable changing of power looming, Baikal struggles to keep his deranged nature under control as he grapples with the upcoming loss. Then one night he's dragged to a recital for his university and sees him for the first time. After one glance he knows he's found his saving grace in Rabbit, the reserved musician who looks like he's battling demons of his own. Just like that, he's got a new title to add to the list. He's going to be the owner of one little ethereal bunny.

Rabbit doesn't understand Baikal's sudden and intense interest, or why the Brumal Prince has gone out of his way to collect enough dirt on his mom to force his hand. Blackmailed into a relationship of sorts, Rabbit fights against Baikal's constant advances and his own tumultuous feelings. Everything Baikal inflicts on him is wrong and twisted, and yet the longer he's made to endure, the more codependent Rabbit finds himself becoming. Baikal promises freedom from the predetermined fate he's always been a slave to, but only if he gives himself over to him completely.

And if he doesn't do so willingly? A devil is always prepared to take what they want, and Baikal Void is no exception.

Trigger This is a stand-alone dark romance which means there are many themes that some might find disturbing. Some of these include, but are not limited to, dub-con, violence, a seriously obsessed male lead, and explicit sexual content not suitable for all readers. Please be sure to read the Author's Note for a complete list of warnings! HEA guarantee!]]>

I also would have loved more world building. I love reading sci-fi books and this book touched a bit on the world building, talking about the college a bit and different planets and galaxies but really never went into detail on any of it. You could almost forget you're reading a sci fi book.

This was pretty alright and I overall had a good time reading it. Definitely had a good premise and a good set up for a story.
I just wish we got a bit more. I would have liked a little more of the relationship building and showing them falling for each other. It was really heavy on the sex scenes (which were all very dark) but I would have liked more actual relationship scenes I think.
I also would have loved more world building. I love reading sci-fi books and this book touched a bit on the world building, talking about the college a bit and different planets and galaxies but really never went into detail on any of it. You could almost forget you're reading a sci fi book.
Mostly I really hated their names. Baikal and Rabbit. They were the worst.

Also I was so confused on the timeline of this book. There would be time jumps without a note saying how long it had been. The next chapter could have started the next day, the next month, or even the next year - you never really know. I think the whole book took place over the course of a year but I’m honestly not sure.

The scene of Beau losing his dad to cancer and Trevor coming over and comforting him was so sweet to read and my favorite part of the book. The author wrote the grief scenes so well. ]]>

Now the Gothic Victorian mansion they’re renovating is the only thing connecting them. Alek will do anything to keep Ian with him.

What Alek did in chapter two was probably the cruelest, coldest, and most manipulative thing I've read in a romance novel and I never liked him again after that. I actually did enjoy the author's writing style and story telling. It kept having really creepy off putting vibes and felt like I was reading a thriller. I kept waiting for some huge thriller style twist.

I think if this had been a thriller I would have liked it better. Or if it had been marketed as a fictional story about mental health I would have liked it better. But as a romance, I really disliked it. It never felt romantic. I never felt love between these two. As one of the first openly bisexual players in the NHL, I’ve gotten my fair share of attention from puck bunnies. Men and women alike looking for their time in the spotlight. They’ve taught me to be careful of who I let close.

When I meet Sky in a random video game chat there’s an instant connection. My instincts tell me I can trust him, but experience holds me back. When I finally decide to let him in, somehow he becomes not just my best friend, but my whole world. When life slams him into the boards and shatters the man I love, I just might have to face my greatest fear of all to drag him out of the depths of despair.

Skylar Donovan

I've always considered myself to be fearless. Some would call me reckless, but I wouldn’t say that. I’d prefer the label adrenaline junkie. If I can jump off of it, I will.

I never expected a random gaming match would lead me down a road to destiny. To him. Or that I’d travel that road with one of my favorite players in the NHL. Being with him is a new level of adrenaline rush. The best kind of high. When tragedy leaves me broken, can Landon remind me how to spread my wings again and soar?

Don't Look Down is an MM, friends to lovers, hockey romance. It's book one in a three book series of interconnected standalones.]]>

I do feel like it needed to be edited way down. So many long paragraphs that were just over explainy and way more information than necessary. With a stronger editor this could have been so good.

Also all the slang and dialogue was so cringey to me. The way the characters spoke was just too much. Again could have been edited way down because it was just cringey. But also I’m an old lady who hates modern slang lol so maybe that’s just a me thing.

But finally, he’s landed in a good place, where he likes the team and the team actually likes him. Even the Condors' current rebuilding mode suits him. There’s a new owner. New coach. New players. New rules.

But one rule hasn’t changed: don’t seduce your agent-appointed c*ckblocker.

Ian Parker agrees to live with Carter and keep him on the straight and narrow for one simple reason: Alec, the agent in charge of cleaning up Carter’s reputation, has promised him something Ian wants very, very badly.

It doesn’t matter that Carter’s never fallen in love or that he’s never been in a real relationship. It doesn’t matter that Ian’s risking his future as an agent.

Taking a star off because sometimes the writing style was kind of weird. There would be a time jump then the character would think back on something that happened during the time jump. But why not have that scene happen in the book instead of just a quick paragraph of the character remembering it? Felt like a lot happened off page that I would have liked to see.

And also- the ending of this book was weirdly abrupt and felt unfinished? It ended in the middle of a scene. No epilogue. There is a lot I would have liked to have known that never gets resolved because the books just ends.

You know what’s the worst feeling in the world? Being in love with someone since you were twelve years old, knowing they only see you as a little brother type.

Not even becoming an NHL star has made him realize I’m all grown up now.

All of that changes when I ask my brother’s best friend to ref a charity match and we spend an entire week in each other’s pocket.

Being close to him is torture, but for the first time since my adolescent crush started, I begin to feel hope. I swear Knox looks at me the same way I look at him. Or so I think. When I throw myself at him and get utterly rejected, I never want to see him again.

Yet, shaking him is impossible, because he and Connor are always around, and my older brother is suffocatingly protective. Every time I look at Knox, I’m reminded of how he turned me down.

Can’t I just die of embarrassment in peace?

Knox

The Kiki brothers are legendary in the NHL world. Thick as thieves, unstoppable on the ice, and the kind of family nothing can come between. Or so I thought.

For the last ten years, I’ve successfully hidden my feelings for the middle Kiki brother. Easton is snarky, determined, and the prettiest guy I’ve met. Ever since we stumbled across each other on a gay dating app and shared our secrets, I’ve felt a connection to him that I haven’t had with anything else.

But Connor is my best friend and when it comes to his little brothers, “protective doesn’t cover it. I’m determined to take my feelings for Easton to the grave, but after a week in close proximity to him, my willpower is ready to break.

All it takes is one charity hockey match, a drunken night out, and a forbidden kiss for me to know that Easton Kikishkin is it for me.

And unless I want to lose Connor, Easton will never be mine.]]>

But then the second half was not really interesting to me. Not a lot going on plot wise. Chapter after chapter of the characters repeatedly having the same internal thoughts and ruminating over their problems repeatedly. I felt like I was rereading the same internal thought over again. The relationship lacked depth. Would have been nice to maybe have a few flash backs to show when they developed their feelings for each other instead of another chapter of Knox stressing over his job. The HEA felt kind of weak too. I was a bit bummed by the second half.

But finding out who book 8 will be about is pretty exciting. Just hope that book has more plot & depth than this one. ]]>

I liked the first half of the book. Loved reading about the charity match and all the members of the collective. Loved the pining between the characters and I really liked their first kiss. I actually read the first half in just one sitting and thought it was really good.

<![CDATA[BTW: By the Way (After Oscar, #3)]]> 43983268 James:

My assignment is simple: go to the Cape and seal the real estate deal for my most important client. No problem. I’m good at my job, I know how to close a sale, and this time won’t be any different.

Until I meet Sawyer, the sexy young bartender I accidentally kiss in the broom closet. Turns out, he’s one of the owners I’m here to negotiate with.

Okay, so that complicates things. As does the fact that he doesn’t want to sell. Or that we can’t keep our hands off each other despite being on opposite sides. And most of all that I might be falling for him even though I know better. I’ve made the mistake of falling for a younger man before and I won’t do it again.

Sawyer:

For me, family is everything, and nothing represents ours more than the Sea Sprite, the motel that’s been in my family for eighty years. Sure, others (*cough*James*cough*) may describe it as rundown or derelict or in desperate need of a wrecking ball. But I call it our legacy.

I’ve got plans -- big plans to renovate the motel back to its vintage glory. The only thing standing in my way is James Allen, the fancy-schmancy lawyer from New York with his adorable smile, jaw-dropping assets, and his client’s millions of dollars.

James seems hellbent on destroying my future. But maybe there’s a way for us to build a new one together...]]>

Mostly loved this! Loved the setting (I would love to go to Cape Cod some day!) Really liked both characters. Loved the side character of the cousin, and I enjoyed the side plots. I mostly really loved everything. A few things I thought would go in one direction and annoy me but they never did thankfully.

Maybe You (Until #3) 216737897 These days I’m a keeper: I keep to myself, keep busy, and keep my head down.
Until him.
Sutton Holland.
Annoying, arrogant, spoiled man-child extraordinaire.
And he’s not even trying to hide any of it.
He says he’s shallow.
That he’s blunt to the point of offensive.
That I shouldn’t like him.
So I don’t.
At first.
But then I accidentally get to know him.
And the more I see of him, the more I start to suspect that maybe he’s not so arrogant, spoiled, and shallow after all.
That maybe he’s just a really good liar.
And that maybe—𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦—he’s everything I never knew I was looking for...]]>

omg- the writing style in this book was so annoying. it made it so choppy. like, I could see maybe doing that once or twice to emphasize something but it was so frequently, several times per chapter. I really do think I would have enjoyed the book more if I wasn't frequently annoyed at the weird choppy writing style.

other than that- I thought the book was alright. It definitely had a few cute scenes that I really liked. I did like the banter between the characters as they got to know each other- very fun and funny to read.

the twist kind of felt like an implausible reach to me [spoilers removed]

but what really annoyed me was the ending. [spoilers removed]]]>

<![CDATA[Don't Mess with the Ex (Rules We Break #2)]]> 153602161
It was an easy rule to follow when Laurence Kensington III was on the other side of the country.

Now that he's shown up out of the blue? Not so much.

I followed my heart into a whirlwind romance with him once, and it led to disaster. I've vowed to never be so impulsive or reckless again. But when he brings me a proposal that will help me achieve my dreams for Granville *and* refuse his entitled family something they want, I'm once more put to the test.

Laurie is as handsome as I remember, but more generous than I ever gave him credit for. His sweet gestures, generous spirit, and open heart make it a challenge to stick to my rule.

But then, maybe messing with the ex isn't all bad. Maybe it's time to write new rules.

Is it really so wrong to follow my heart if my heart was right all along?

Don't Mess With The Ex is Book 2 of Rules We Break, a spin-off series from Games We Play, set in the small, quirky town of Granville, where nosy residents meddle in one another's lives, great friendships are made, and silly innuendos are a way of life.
