The book is a collection of parables that follow the lives of several Babylonians, including Arkad, the richest man in Babylon, who shares his secrets to wealth. Arkad imparts his wisdom to fellow citizens through a series of personal lessons. These stories take place in a time long past, but the advice he offers is universal and ageless, covering subjects like saving, investing, living within one's means, and seeking wise counsel.

At its core, The Richest Man in Babylon emphasizes the importance of financial discipline and responsibility. The first of Arkad's lessons is about paying yourself first. He teaches that a person should always set aside a portion of their earnings before paying for anything else. This may seem obvious today, but in a world where debt has become a part of daily life, this advice is still incredibly powerful. Clason reinforces this point by suggesting saving at least 10% of one's income and treating that amount as untouchable, almost as if it were already spent. In doing so, a person can gradually build wealth over time.

Another important lesson involves seeking knowledge and wise counsel. Arkad advises his fellow Babylonians to learn from experts and take advice from those who have already achieved success. This guidance goes beyond simply listening to friends or family; it stresses the importance of surrounding oneself with mentors or professionals who understand the intricacies of money. In today's age, this could mean consulting financial planners, reading reputable finance books, or simply learning about investments.

Additionally, Clason teaches the concept of living below one's means. In an era of instant gratification, where people often buy on credit and live in a state of constant spending, this lesson is crucial. Arkad warns against the temptation of lavish living and stresses that true wealth comes from self-control and delayed gratification. This is one of the book's most valuable takeaways, as it challenges readers to reevaluate their spending habits and make smarter financial decisions.

One of the most significant themes in the book is the idea of investment. Clason talks about how wealth is built not just through saving, but also through wise investments. Arkad encourages his fellow Babylonians to seek profitable opportunities and grow their money. This might seem like a daunting task for many readers, but Clason simplifies the concept and reminds his readers that the key to making wise investments is ensuring that they seek knowledge and understand the risks before they take the leap. In essence, it¡¯s about making your money work for you rather than simply working for money.

The lessons in The Richest Man in Babylon are not only practical but also timeless. The stories of the people of Babylon, including the lessons of the "Seven Cures for a Lean Purse" and "The Five Laws of Gold," offer a structured approach to financial prosperity. These rules aren¡¯t just about gaining wealth, but about maintaining it and passing it on to future generations. This deep, cyclical wisdom has stood the test of time, and each principle is simple enough to be adopted by anyone, no matter their financial situation.

For those new to personal finance or those looking for a refresher, Clason¡¯s writing style is both straightforward and engaging. While the language may initially seem old-fashioned due to the setting in ancient Babylon, it doesn¡¯t detract from the book's clarity. The use of parables makes each lesson easy to digest and apply. The simplicity of the writing allows the reader to focus on the message, rather than getting bogged down by complex financial jargon.

What makes this book so compelling is that the advice is not just theoretical. It's practical, actionable, and can be used by anyone willing to make a commitment to improving their financial health. It¡¯s a book that doesn't rely on get-rich-quick schemes or unrealistic expectations. Instead, it offers wisdom grounded in patience, hard work, and intelligent decision-making.

There¡¯s also an important philosophical element to The Richest Man in Babylon. The book teaches that wealth is not just about money, but about living a life of dignity and purpose. It encourages readers to take responsibility for their financial well-being and make decisions that lead to a more fulfilling life. This broader perspective sets The Richest Man in Babylon apart from many other books that focus solely on the accumulation of wealth.

If there¡¯s one downside to the book, it might be that its lessons can feel repetitive after a while, as many of the principles are revisited in different contexts throughout the story. However, this repetition also serves to reinforce the key messages, making them even more impactful. For readers who are eager to dive into complex financial strategies, The Richest Man in Babylon may feel simplistic, but for anyone just starting to think about their financial future, it¡¯s an invaluable resource.

Overall, The Richest Man in Babylon is an essential read for anyone looking to improve their financial literacy or begin their journey toward wealth. It is a book filled with timeless principles that have been proven to work over centuries. It¡¯s straightforward, engaging, and incredibly insightful¡ªwhether you¡¯re in your twenties just starting your career, or nearing retirement and looking for ways to safeguard your wealth. The book is a constant reminder that wealth is a result of disciplined habits, wise decisions, and long-term planning. The lessons it offers are simple, but they are powerful, and they are sure to leave a lasting impact on anyone willing to put them into practice.

The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason is one of those timeless books that resonates with readers from all walks of life, offering practical financial advice wrapped in the simple, engaging narrative of ancient Babylon. First published in 1926, the book uses parables to impart lessons on wealth building, personal finance, and wealth management, making it one of the most celebrated and recommended financial books to this day. Despite the age of its content, the core principles of money management and prosperity remain just as relevant today as they were nearly a century ago.

<![CDATA[Nexus: A Brief History of Information Networks from the Stone Age to AI]]> 217081822 From the author of Sapiens comes the groundbreaking story of how information networks have made, and unmade, our world.

For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite allour discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI¡ªa new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive?

Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world. Taking us from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, early modern witch-hunts, Stalinism, Nazism, and the resurgence of populism today, Yuval Noah Harari asks us to consider the complex relationship between information and truth, bureaucracy and mythology, wisdom and power. He explores how different societies and political systems throughout history have wielded information to achieve their goals, for good and ill. And he addresses the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our very existence.

Information is not the raw material of truth; neither is it a mere weapon. Nexus explores the hopeful middle ground between these extremes, and in doing so, rediscovers our shared humanity.]]>

Where the Crawdads Sing 57169243 NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE--The #1 New York Times bestselling worldwide sensation with more than 15 million copies sold, hailed by The New York Times Book Review as "a painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature."

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.]]>

If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa where she could watch TV, munch junk food and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hallowed Order of Magical Enlightenment. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen right from under the Order's noses. It doesn't exactly help that she's been magically bound to Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a body which a cover model would be proud of but, as far as Ivy's concerned, he's a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch-work. The small-town library director has just begun rebuilding her life after tragedy tore it apart less than a year ago, and is happily settling into her new apartment on the top floor of the library by the river. But when a local celebrity turns up dead, the time has come to put her sleuthing fantasies into action. Has she unwittingly invited the murderer into her own home? And will she be able to prove her innocence before she becomes a victim herself? Readers of engaging, descriptive authors such as Ann Cleeves and Louise Penny, as well as readers who love amateur sleuths and small-town mysteries, will love Megan Montaigne. GAME OF LOVE...
Ellie Parker is a master at building walls around her heart. In the twenty-five years she's been alive, Dex Remington has been the only person who has always believed in her and been there for her. But four years earlier, she came to Dex seeking comfort and then disappeared like a thief in the night, leaving him a broken man.

Dex Remington is one of the top PC game developers in the United States. He's handsome, smart, and numb. So damn numb that he's not sure he'll ever find a reason to feel again.

A chance encounter sparks intense desires in Ellie and Dex. Desires that make her want to run--and make him want to feel. A combination of lust and fear leads these young lovers down a dangerous path. Is it possible to cross a burned bridge, or are they destined to be apart forever?
***
STROKE OF LOVE
Kate Paletto runs a volunteer program in Belize for Artists for International Aid, where she deals with self-centered artists who use the program as a means to repair their marred reputations. She loves the country, the people, and what AIA stands for, but too many diva volunteers have turned her off to press-seeking celebrities altogether and left her questioning the value of the volunteer program. When she meets incredibly handsome and charming Sage, he stirs emotions she hasn't felt for ages, even though he represents the things she despises.

Laid-back artist Sage Remington escapes his wealthy lifestyle in the Big Apple for a two-week journey of self-discovery to figure out how a guy who has so much can feel so empty. When he meets ultra-organized Kate, who lives her life the way he's always dreamed of living his, the attraction is too hot to ignore, but Sage is there to figure out what's missing in his life, not to find a woman.

Every look, and every late-night chat in the romantic jungle brings them closer together, but Sage can barely think past stripping away Kate's misconceptions about him. Kate fights him every step of the way--even though she finds it hard to ignore the strikingly handsome, generous-to-a-fault artist who wants to do nothing more than right the wrongs of the world--and love her to the ends of the earth.

IN FLAMES OF LOVE...
As one of New York's Finest, firefighter Cash Ryder is always prepared. When a woman's car skids off the side of a mountain during a snowstorm, he's there to rescue her. Cash is totally focused on the woman's well-being, but within minutes of getting her to safety, he realizes that he's nowhere near prepared for the heat that rolls off of sensual, smart-mouthed, and stubborn Siena Remington.

As a model, Siena Remington has dated some of the wealthiest, most handsome men in the industry, and she's made peace with the idea that most men are just looking for eye candy and they wouldn't know how to romance a woman to save their lives. When she's rescued by a tall, handsome stranger, she thinks that maybe, just maybe, she's found her own real-life romantic fairy tale--until he opens his mouth and everything that comes out is gruff, ornery, and aggravatingly sexy.

Thrown together during an annual firehouse calendar photo shoot, the passion between Cash and Siena sizzles, and neither one knows how to control the flames. After an evening of verbal sparring followed by a sinfully sensual night, their darkest secrets are revealed--and so is Cash's warm, romantic heart. But Siena's secret might be too much for big, strong, always-prepared Cash to handle--and Siena is forced to choose between a man who's everything she's ever dreamed of and an opportunity of a lifetime.]]>

Bad Cree 60839741 In this gripping debut tinged with supernatural horror, a young Cree woman's dreams lead her on a perilous journey of self-discovery that ultimately forces her to confront the toll of a legacy of violence on her family, her community and the land they call home.

When Mackenzie wakes up with a severed crow's head in her hands, she panics. Only moments earlier she had been fending off masses of birds in a snow-covered forest. In bed, when she blinks, the head disappears.

Night after night, Mackenzie's dreams return her to a memory from before her sister Sabrina's untimely death: a weekend at the family's lakefront campsite, long obscured by a fog of guilt. But when the waking world starts closing in, too--a murder of crows stalks her every move around the city, she wakes up from a dream of drowning throwing up water, and gets threatening text messages from someone claiming to be Sabrina--Mackenzie knows this is more than she can handle alone.

Traveling north to her rural hometown in Alberta, she finds her family still steeped in the same grief that she ran away to Vancouver to escape. They welcome her back, but their shaky reunion only seems to intensify her dreams--and make them more dangerous.

What really happened that night at the lake, and what did it have to do with Sabrina's death? Only a bad Cree would put their family at risk, but what if whatever has been calling Mackenzie home was already inside?]]>

Spare 62296528
For Harry, this is that story at last.

Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness¡ªand, because he blamed the press for his mother¡¯s death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.

At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn¡¯t find true love.

Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple¡¯s cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. I AM WALT DISNEY 50187316
As a child, I had a wild imagination and a great curiosity. As I grew up, I used those qualities to become a cartoonist. Eventually, I turned these drawings into films and began my own animation business. One of my characters, Mickey Mouse, became so popular that movie theaters sold out and I won an Academy Award. After pursuing a career as a film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, entrepreneur and entertainer, I added developer to my resume when I created Disneyland amusement park. I became tremendously successful and beloved by children of all ages because of my belief that even the impossible is possible. I am Walt Disney.

To this day, Walt Disney's characters remain some of the most recognizable images in the world. With books, TV shows, films, and amusement parks devoted to his creations, the Walt Disney name lives on. Learn all about this remarkable man's fascinating life in Scholastic's biography series, I AM.]]>

<![CDATA[ANNE FRANK : A Short Biography (GP Short Reads)]]> 63198720 ANNE A Short Biography gives insight into the life of one of the most influential and celebrated figures of our time, Anne Frank, a young Jewish teenage diarist, in a lucid and digestible form. Anne Frank has become a universal symbol of the oppressed in a world of violence and tyranny. Her image is the epitome of optimism and the will to live.
Millions of young people in search of their own identity regard her as their spokesperson. Her diary, which she wrote during the second world war while hiding in Amsterdam for two years, has been interpreted as an eternal testament of courage and hope, relevant to all, and often, though only secondarily, as a document of the Holocaust. It remains a beloved and deeply admired testament to the indestructible nature of the human spirit. Anne¡¯s humor, unflinching honesty, and wisdom¡ªall evident in her Diary are an essential part of her legacy.
In 1940, after Germany invaded the Netherlands, Anne and her family couldn't leave the country, so they decided to hide in a warehouse in an attempt to escape the persecution of Jews by the Nazis. For over two years, Anne wrote in her diary with an awareness that was extremely mature for her age. She detailed her experiences and understandings while she and her family were in hiding, living in constant fear of being arrested.
The Diary of Anne Frank is a record of her understanding of the war and showcases her incredible storytelling abilities in such horrific circumstances. In 1944, the Franks were found and sent to concentration camps. Anne died before she turned sixteen, and her father, Otto Frank, was the only family member to survive the Holocaust. After the War, Otto returned to Amsterdam, where he found his daughter's diary and then published it as The Diary of a Young Girl.]]>

Wish 34567479 A touching story about a girl and her dog, perfect for young animal lovers

Eleven-year-old Charlie Reese has been making the same secret wish every day since fourth grade. She even has a list of all the ways there are to make the wish, such as cutting off the pointed end of a slice of pie and wishing on it as she takes the last bite.

But when she is sent to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to live with family she barely knows, it seems unlikely that her wish will ever come true. That is, until she meets Wishbone, a skinny stray dog who captures her heart, and Howard, a neighbor boy who proves surprising in lots of ways. Suddenly Charlie is in serious danger of discovering that what she thought she wanted may not be what she needs at all.

From award-winning author Barbara O'Connor comes a middle-grade novel about a girl who, with the help of a true-blue friend, a big-hearted aunt and uncle, and the dog of her dreams, unexpectedly learns the true meaning of family in the least likely of places.

This title has Common Core connections.

Praise for Wish

"At school, at home, and in the community, the characters and settings are well drawn, but it's the narrator's convincing, compelling voice that will draw readers into the novel and keep them there until her wish finally comes true." --Booklist

"The many ways [Charlie] wishes form something of a catalog of folk and family traditions and are delightful all by themselves....Speaking in an honest voice revealing her hurt, resentment, and vulnerability, Charlies explains how her wish comes true. A warm, real, and heartfelt tale." --Kirkus Reviews

"O'Connor again finds the sweet spot for young readers who are beyond early chapter books but not quite ready for the cynicism and/or complexity of much tween-into-teen lit. Bertha, Gus, and the Odoms are certainly awash in goodness, but their big-heartedness never devolves into sentimentality." --The Bulletin

"Like a generous portions of grits, Wish makes the world a little better." --Bookpage

"This heartwarming story is not to be missed." --Kidsreads]]>

A Tale of Two Cities 30238344 After eighteen years as a political prisoner in the Bastille the aging Dr Manette is finally released and reunited with his daughter in England. There, two very different men, Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a disreputable but brilliant English lawyer, become enmeshed through their love for Lucie Manette. From the tranquil lanes of London, they are all drawn against their will to the vengeful, bloodstained streets of Paris at the height of the Reign of Terror and soon fall under the lethal shadow of La Guillotine.
The book is perhaps best known for its opening lines, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," and for Carton's last speech, in which he says of his replacing Darnay in a prison cell, "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."

ABOUT THE
Charles Dickens (7 February 1812 - 9 June 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world's best-known fictional characters and is regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His works enjoyed unprecedented popularity during his lifetime, and by the twentieth century critics and scholars had recognised him as a literary genius. His novels and short stories enjoy lasting popularity.
The second of eight children, he grew up in a family frequently beset by financial insecurity. At age eleven, Dickens was taken out of school and sent to work in London backing warehouse, where his job was to paste labels on bottles for six shillings a week. His father John Dickens, was a warmhearted but improvident man. When he was condemned the Marshela Prison for unpaid debts, he unwisely agreed that Charles should stay in lodgings and continue working while the rest of the family joined him in jail. This three-month separation caused Charles much pain; his experiences as a child alone in a huge city - cold, isolated with barely enough to eat - haunted him for the rest of his life.

When the family fortunes improved, Charles went back to school, after which he became an office boy, a freelance reporter and finally an author. With 'Pickwick Papers' (1836-7) he achieved immediate fame; in a few years he was easily the most popular and respected writer of his time. It has been estimated that one out of every ten persons in Victorian England was a Dickens reader. 'Oliver Twist' (1837), 'Nicholas Nickleby' (1838-9) and 'The Old Curiosity Shop' (1840-41) were huge successes. 'Martin Chuzzlewit' (1843-4) was less so, but Dickens followed it with his unforgettable, 'A Christmas Carol' (1843), 'Bleak House' (1852-3), 'Hard Times' (1854) and 'Little Dorrit' (1855-7) reveal his deepening concern for the injustices of British Society. 'A Tale of Two Cities' (1859), 'Great Expectations' (1860-1) and 'Our Mutual Friend' (1864-5) complete his major works.
Dickens's marriage to Catherine Hoggarth produced ten children but ended in separation in 1858. In that year he began a series of exhausting public readings; his health gradually declined. After putting in a full day's work at his home at Gads Hill, Kent on June 8, 1870, Dickens suffered a stroke, and he died the following day.]]>

About the Freud (1856-1939) is one of the twentieth century's greatest minds and the founder of the psychoanalytic school of psychology. His many works include 'The Ego and the Id', 'An Outline of Psycho-Analysis', Civilization and Its Discontent, and others. He was an Austrian neurologist who became known as the founding father of psychoanalysis. Freud qualified as a doctor of medicine at the University of Vienna in 1881, and then carried out research into cerebral palsy, aphasia and microscopic neuroanatomy at the Vienna General Hospital. He was appointed a university lecturer in neuropathology in 1885 and became a professor in 1902.In creating psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst, Freud developed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process. Freud's redefinition of sexuality to include its infantile forms led him to formulate the Oedipus complex as the central tenet of psychoanalytical theory. His analysis of dreams as wish-fulfillments provided him with models for the clinical analysis of symptom formation and the mechanisms of repression as well as for elaboration of his theory of the unconscious as an agency disruptive of conscious states of mind.]]>

A Passage to India 58353927
E.M. Forster's 1924 political and philosophical masterpiece, A Passage to India, is among the greatest novels of the twentieth century. The book mirrors the troubled politics of colonialism and questions whether a friendship between a British person and an Indian would have been possible in those prejudiced times. Adela Quested and her fellow British travelers, set to experience the 'real' India, develop a friendship with the suave Dr. Aziz. A mysterious incident occurs while they are exploring the Marabar Caves, and the trip results in a shocking accusation on the well-respected doctor that throws Chandrapore into a fever of racial tension and results in a devastating series of events, revealing how deeply the bigotry has taken root.

A powerful depiction of a society in the grasp of imperialism, 'A Passage to India' portraits the future of individuals caught between the major political and cultural conflicts of the modern world.]]>

A Tale of Two Cities 9847899 This is the alternate cover edition for "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens for ASIN number:B004EHZXVQ can be found here.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"

The story is set in the late 18th century against the background of the French Revolution. Although Dickens borrowed from Thomas Carlyle's history, The French Revolution, for his sprawling tale of London and revolutionary Paris, the novel offers more drama than accuracy.

The scenes of large-scale mob violence are especially vivid, if superficial in historical understanding. The complex plot involves Sydney Carton's sacrifice of his own life on behalf of his friends Charles Darnay and Lucie Manette. While political events drive the story, Dickens takes a decidedly antipolitical tone, lambasting both aristocratic tyranny and revolutionary excess--the latter memorably caricatured in Madame Defarge, who knits beside the guillotine.

When former aristocrat Charles Darnay learns that an old family servant needs his help, he abandons his safe haven in England and returns to Paris. But once there, the Revolutionary authorities arrest him not for anything he has done, but for his rich family's crimes. Also in danger: his wife, Lucie, their young daughter, and her aged father, who have followed him across the Channel.

<![CDATA[Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection]]> 18743056
University of Chicago social neuroscientist John T. Cacioppo pioneered research on the startling effects of a sense of isolation or social rejection disrupts not only our ability to think and will power but also our immune systems, and can be as damaging as obesity or smoking. On the flip side, social connection can be a powerful therapy. Cacioppo¡¯s sophisticated studies relying on brain imaging, analysis of blood pressure, immune response, stress hormones, behavior, and even gene expression show that human beings are simply far more intertwined and interdependent¡ªphysiologically as well as psychologically¡ªthan our cultural assumptions have ever allowed us to acknowledge.

Loneliness traces the evolution of these tandem forces, showing how, for our primitive ancestors, survival depended not on greater brawn but on greater commitments to each other. Serving as a prompt to repair frayed social bonds, the pain of loneliness engendered a fear response so powerfully disruptive that even now, millions of years later, a persistent sense of rejection or isolation can impair DNA transcription in our immune cells. This disruption also impairs our ability to read social signals and exercise social skills, as well as limits our ability to internally regulate our emotions¡ªall of which can combine to trap us in self-defeating behaviors that reinforce the very isolation and rejection that we dread.

Loneliness shows us how to overcome this feedback loop to achieve better health and greater happiness. As individuals and as a society, we have everything to gain, and everything to lose, in how well or how poorly we manage our need for social bonds.

The Undertaking 22370849 A "deeply impressive . . . devastating but quite stunning" novel about doomed love and ambition in Nazi Germany (Minneapolis Star-Tribune).

Set during World War II amid the trenches of the eastern front and the turmoil of Berlin under the Third Reich, The Undertaking intertwines the lives of two German strangers entering into a proxy marriage of convenience, self-interest, and of ideology.

Peter Faber is a soldier desperate to escape the madness of war if only by a three-week honeymoon leave. His new wife is Katharine Spinell, a resourceful young woman from Berlin who anticipates the likelihood of a widow's pension should Peter die in battle. When they finally meet there is an attraction as unexpected as it is intense. But as Peter returns to Stalingrad, and as Katherine ruthlessly works her way into Nazi high society, the tides of war change. So do Peter and Katharine's fates and fortunes, in this "bold, honest novel about Nazi greed and moral blankness . . . and the small people who are inseparably part of a great ravagement" (The Guardian).

Finalist for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction, The Undertaking is "one of the most riveting accounts of love in time of war that this reviewer has ever read" (Library Journal (starred review)--"a violent, elegant, unsentimental journey through hell and halfway back" (Chris Cleave, New York Times-bestselling author of Everyone Brave is Forgiven).]]>
