That would include Elizabeth Tucker, the woman he needs to find the Stones. She’s freshly transplanted from New York City to Boston’s North Shore. With a new job as pastry chef at Dazzle’s bakery and an old house inherited from her Aunt Ophelia, her life is pretty much on track …until it’s suddenly derailed by a guy named Diesel, a rude monkey, and a ninja cat.

Lizzy can handle the monkey and the cat. She’s not sure about Diesel. He’s offering up his own set of unusual talents, promising to protect her from Grimoire. The kind of protection that Lizzy suspects might involve guarding her body day and night.

The Seven Deadly Sins are pride, greed, lust, envy wrath, sloth and gluttony. That pretty much covers everything that is wicked. Diesel thinks it also pretty much covers everything that’s fun. And Lizzy thinks Diesel and the Seven Deadly Sins cover everything her mother warned her about.]]>

The book is a chic lit version of infinity wars. If you’ve read Stephany plum novels it’s basically Stephany teamed up with Thor to find the infinity stones before A bigger muscular version of Loki finds them. It was comical in some parts but just a so so book. I like the Stephany plum books better. But it was an ok light read. Not sure if I’m gonna read the rest.

enjoyed the premise of this book but towards the end when the storyline should be picking up and be the most exciting it fell flat. Things that happen on their adventure could be explained away because they were outside. As a mater of fact i felt it was not even close to feeling like it was a spirit. But for kids maybe it would. And then ends leaving you feel like nothing was resolved. Very unsatisfying ending. Like the author just got tired of writing the story so she just ended it quick.

I did feel it was a bit of an agenda in the curriculum with so much happening with immigration right now however I had it in my tbr pile before my daughters teacher picked it. So I read it along with my daughter as a way to know what was happening in class. In another time or day I would just see it as a good book. Worth the read.

The Enchanted Places 24206277 Millions of readers throughout the world have grown up with the stories and verses of A. A. Milne; have envied Christopher Robin in his enchanted world; laughed at Pooh - a bear of very little brain - and worried about Piglet and his problems. But what was it like to be the small boy with the long hair, smock and wellington boots?

At the age of fifty-four Christopher Milne recalled his early childhood, remembering 'the enchanted places' where he used to play in Sussex. The Hundred Acre Wood, Galleon's Lap and Poohsticks Bridge existed not only in the stories and poems but were part of the real world surrounding the Milne home at Cotchford Farm.

With deftness and artistry Milne draws a memorable portrait of his father, and an evocative reconstruction of a happy childhood in London and Sussex. It is a story told with humour and modesty.

The hyper part is so much easier to deal with compared to the impulsivity. Then there's the hyper focus! Say what? Focus? Yes a hyper focus on one thing. I think it's why they give him a diagnosis of OCD as well.

What this book did for me is give me a look into my son's head. The energy and strength it takes to stop and don't do. Most powerful for me was the pebbles and just wanting to see them fly. Over and over again not learning the consequences of the pebbles flying.

I actually wouldn't suggest this book for anyone not suffering from ADHD or does not have a loved one or friend with ADHD. You won't get it. It looks like they are just being punks making poor choices on purpose. If you don't live it or live near it, you see something else. I don't wish autism on anyone, but if you say your child is autistic people understand it's a real disorder. If you say your child is ADHD or severe ADHD they just kind of roll their eyes or just kind of nod in fake understanding. So frustrating

But if you have ADHD as a kids or adult it's great! It gives you hope and proof you can succeed and get organized. there are teachers and professors that understand and help you succeed while still making you responsible. It's a short book so not overwhelming to read. My 11 year old is reading it next]]>

I always look at my son and shake my head and wonder what in world are you thinking?? What is going through your head? He is too young to put it all into words. Actually he is getting old enough but I still forget he has an issue with self control and impulsivity. As well as low self esteem.

The hyper part is so much easier to deal with compared to the impulsivity. Then there's the hyper focus! Say what? Focus? Yes a hyper focus on one thing. I think it's why they give him a diagnosis of OCD as well.

I finally finished this book. It resembles my child and things were making sense. But it was also depressing because her child still wound up on the streets. Sometimes o felt like there were too many stories of other families. I wanted to hear more about her family. Some of the stories I really appreciated, there are some good information in here but I discovered that my state of Nevada does not have adequate therapy specialist here. There were a few suggestion that I really wanted to try but my therapist said we don't have anything like that here. I kept wanting a happy ending but I didn't get it. I wonder how they are doing today

Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.

It doesn’t take long for Stanley to realize there’s more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. Moving in the shadows, picking his spots, Reacher gets closer and closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. And for Reacher, the only way to take him down is to know his ruthlessness and respect his cunning–and then match him shot for shot…]]>

The Butterfly Revolution 19292806
Winnie is a quiet, bookish boy, small for his age - a reader of Plato and Thoreau.
Frank is older than his years, hot-tempered, instinctive, intelligent - a natural leader.
The Butterfly Revolution is a chilling tale of terror in a world without adults. On the surface it is the compulsively readable story of a bloodless revolution at High Pines Summer Camp for Boys - a revolution that gets out of hand and turns into a nightmare. But General Frank is the dictator that men instinctively seek. The boys' totalitarian government - its organization, its psychology, its brutality - is a mirror of the adult world. And Winston Weyn - despised bookworm, hater of the fuhrer principle - is attracted like the rest through the cunning of the leader.
Inevitably this is a book that will be read and compared with Lord of the Flies and A Separate Peace.]]>

Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker -- two of the most acclaimed writers of supernatural thrillers -- have joined forces for the first time to craft a story unlike any you've ever read. Enter House -- where you'll find yourself thrown into a killer's deadly game in which the only way to win is to lose... and the only way out is in.

The stakes of the game become clear when a tin can is tossed into the house with rules scrawled on it. Rules that only a madman—or worse—could have written. Rules that make no sense yet must be followed.

One game. Seven players. Three rules. Game ends at dawn.

This particular book was hard for me to get through. I actually stopped half way through. I think it is because I was comparing David's life to Joseph's life. I read Joseph right before this one. The two are so different. I got very confused with what God was allowing here with the two men. But if I would have continued to read, I would have seen the consequences of David's actions. Even though he was still concidered a man after God's own heart, he had consequences for his sins. It affected not just him, but his whole family. There was a domino effect that lasted many, years after. This book brought me to a place to learn about true grace and mercy. Something I don't ever want to take for granite. Highly recommended.

<![CDATA[Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter]]> 82751
A Chinese proverb says, "Falling leaves return to their roots." In Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah returns to her roots to tell the story of her painful childhood and her ultimate triumph and courage in the face of despair. Adeline's affluent, powerful family considers her bad luck after her mother dies giving birth to her. Life does not get any easier when her father remarries. She and her siblings are subjected to the disdain of her stepmother, while her stepbrother and stepsister are spoiled. Although Adeline wins prizes at school, they are not enough to compensate for what she really yearns for -- the love and understanding of her family.

Following the success of the critically acclaimed adult bestseller Falling Leaves, this memoir is a moving telling of the classic Cinderella story, with Adeline Yen Mah providing her own courageous voice.]]>

"No prying eyes, spiteful remarks, pitying glances. I was alone with my beloved books. What bliss! To be left in peace with Cordelia, Regan, Gonoril and Lear himself-Characters more real then my family back home or my schoolmates downstairs. The rhythm! The story! The magical words! What happiness! What comfort!"
A passage from Chinese Cinderella; the true story of an unwanted daughter by Adeline Yen Mah. Great book! I though of all of you on this website after I read that passage. Little Adeline is 13 when she said this. And sitting on a toilet seat in the girls bathroom with a stack of books. I read this book. I loved it!
Excellent!

Anways, here is a favorite passage from it.
I wanted to share this with you all because I think we all can relate to some degree. Keep in mind the subtitle.

This was my first bugman book. I found it at the used book store, and I passed it up several times, then finally took it. I am glad I did. I love how the author writes about what it was like for people in New Orleans at the time. I like what he says in the foot notes about the cops and why he wrote it that way. The story moved along at a good pace for me, and I enjoyed the bugman character a lot. I loved the kid even more! Can't wait to read more of his stories. This is also my first Tim Downs book too.

This one has a lot more in it then the movies did. It kept my attention well. I Poor Hermione! Her story was really down played in the movie! But the rest was fairly accurate. One thing I find interesting is that in the movie I really like Snape! Altough he is a tough nut, he has a good heart and watches out for the kids. But in the book, he is really mean. And I don't have a soft spot in my heart for him. It is weird that they let him be portrayed two different ways even with the Author having so much input on the screenplay. But I really do enjoy hearing the stories. I hope the same guy reads them all, because now I am used to his character voices and know who is who. I wish he didn't make Hermione so whiney sounding, but other then that, I really like it. Each book seems to get better. I know the next one is full of things the movie didnt have in it, so I am excited to listen to that one next!

<![CDATA[Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal]]> 28881 Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more—except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdala—and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.]]>
444 Christopher Moore 0380813815 smalls 3 some of my favorite lines were
"Revelations 2; Just When you thought it was safe to sin."
and "Actually , I thought I'd stay Josh. Your mother needs someone to look after her, and she's still a relatively attractive woman. I mean a guy could do worse."

My absolute favorite part was the lizard in the beginning. I laughed so hard! very fun and creative.

It got slow for me while he was visiting the wisemen. But I did laugh once in a while. Definately not as much as in the beginning.

The End...
I was nervous reading the part during His ministry. Being a Born Again Christian, I knew this could be difficult. I did struggle with a few things, and to me they were important. Well, at least two things. First, the scorging, "At least it wasn't a Roman scourge they lashed him with. He took thirty nine lashes, but it was just leather, not the lead -tipped whip that the romands use. "
A cat of nine tails was used with other devices. It was the Romans scourging so it was a roman scourge. Pieces of glass and metal shards are embedded in the leather strips, and they rip through the flesh. Important to me because I want others to know how bad the penalty for our sins was.

Second part was the crusificiton, the poisen. This is a fictional work. But Mr. Moore did do a lot of research for this book as well. And I always have to take a stand on the belief of the real death and resurection of Jesus. I found myself praying that the book wouldn't go that route. But it did, and you are lead to believe that he drinks it. Thankfully Moore didn't let the ending be the poisen.

Now that that is said, I would like to say that I loved that no matter how raunchy the book got, or made me shake my head, the ending was still sad. His followers didn't get it, didn't want to believe it even. It ripped them to shreds inside. With how the book was going,I kept expecting humor in the crusifiction, but it was well done emotionally. If there was a poisen that could work like that, I would have wanted to try it to save Him too. It is too much to fathom that the person you have been friends with for even the time that the real diciples were with Him, was going to have to bear that torture, and then to understand He was coming back, and that it was being done to save the world, I wouldn't have gotten it either. Because of the Bible, those who believe have hindsight. I really appreciated that Moore stayed true to at least the tragedy and pain that His friends had to wittness.

Jesus swearing as a kid, didn't seem to bother me quite as much as it did as He aged. Once the book got to the part that is written, it was much harder for me to find the humor in certain things. But there were some. Like when Biff talks about his mom and Joshua says, "she still plagued with demons?" Lines like that cracked me up.

Thanks for letting me read the book. It was interesting and at times fun. I will still reccomend it to one more of my friends who I know can handle it as a Born Again believer. But it is definately a book I have to be careful of recomendations. Only because so many "Christians" that I know would have a fit reading this book.
But I did pass it on to a friend of mine, who is a christian, but who also has a great sense of humor.]]>

This book was a page turner. The crime is figured out pretty quickly. But the ache you feel for this boy at times are intense. Other times he's just funny! Fastest I've ever read a picoult book. However it loses a star for the ending though. It just felt rushed and there was so much more that could if continued the story.

Have the movie, and loved it for a good scare that was clean and free of sex, words, and gore. Had the best time showing it to my 5th grade girls sunday school class. I probably wouldn't have liked the movie if I had read the book first. Let you know how it is when I am done.

It was fairly predictable though for me. The ending was the best part for me. I also loved the relationship between the uncle and the nephew. The nephew reminded me of my own son. And how he gets into trouble without really meaning to get into trouble. It was a cute book, and I think my daughter will love reading it. I also think my son will love it next year when he is old enough to read it. I will let you all know my 8 year olds thoughts when she gets to read it.

I will have my daughter put a comment on this soon, but as a parent this book did exactly what I wanted it to. It gave my daughter, who hated reading at this time, a love for reading! She reads like crazy now and it is because of this book series. She fell in love with it, it wasn't too long, had a few pictures, and she got to get the horses to go with it after reading the book. They are beautiful too! She loves this series even though she has moved on to longer chapter books, she still loves reading any new ones in this series! From what I heard it promotes team work, and individuality, and fun, hard work, and friendship. Couldn't ask for more from a book. This may not be the book for your child to turn their reading love around, but it was for mine. She is a huge animal lover, as well as a girly girl. So tiny horses with wings tha are born from a child blowing on a dandelion wish, was just what my 7 year old needed!

Two Little Girls in Blue 154423 New York Times bestselling writer Mary Higgins Clark brilliantly weaves the mystery of twin telepathy into a mother's search for a kidnapped child, presumed dead.

When Margaret and Steve Frawley come home to Connecticut from a black-tie dinner in New York, their three-year-old twins, Kathy and Kelly, are gone. The police found the babysitter unconscious, and a ransom note from the Pied Piper demands eight million dollars. Steve's global investment firm puts up the money, but when they go to retrieve the twins, only Kelly is in the car. The dead driver's suicide note says he inadvertently killed Kathy.

At the memorial, Kelly tugs Margaret's arm and says: Mommy, Kathy is very scared of that lady. She wants to come home right now. At first, only Margaret believes that the twins are communicating and that Kathy is still alive. But as Kelly's warnings become increasingly specific and alarming, FBI agents set out on a desperate search.]]>

Why am I not dead?
I should be dead.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans—except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay—no matter what the personal cost.]]>

<![CDATA[Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)]]> 6148028 Sparks are igniting.
Flames are spreading.
And the Capitol wants revenge.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol—a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest that she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before . . . and surprising readers at every turn.]]>

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. The descriptive is just enough to really make you feel what the kids are sensing and feeling. The difference between the animal's brain and the humans. The lack of control, and the way they see things. I think she did an amazing job at this. However, now I am hooked enough to want to know how it ends and their seem to be hundreds of these books! OK, I am exagerating, but there are a lot! So now I am torn between reading my daughters books and trying to read my own books as well!

Another book my 8 year old asked me to read. We origionally got this book so we could get the book of the girl morphing into a Dolphin. My girl loves Dolphins. So we decided we should at least know what happens at first before we just pick by animals. She is currently reading the dolphin one now. I just finished this tonight. I never thought I would be reading fantasy and sci fi, but that is what my daughter has picked up recently. It is an interesting idea, and parts of it for her, mostly the beginning were scary. She typically reads Animal Ark books and Wind Dancer (winged magical tiny ponies) so this is a big jump in genre for her. She almost didn't continue reading it, but I convinced her it might be less scary if she gets to the end. She found some parts funny, but it must have grabbed her attention enough to where she wanted to jump into the next book.

This book grabs you right away. An eleven year old girl helps her mother give birth to her new brother, only to have them both die. It is now up the her to get her seven year old brother and herself to her uncles house in another state. It is set in the near future and suggests that the world has run out of water, and has destroyed most of the land. They are up against Survivalists, and wild animals as they travel alone. Very good story, for a young readers book.

As her mom, I love that the books hooked her to want to read. I have been looking for a genre for her for quite some time that would get her to want to read. She HAS to read every night for an hour for school. I was having a hard time finding something that would get her excited about reading instead of being a reluctant reader. This one has done just that. She is a girly, girl. She loves ALL types of animals. She loves pretty, cute, and magical things. This book has all that and more. The illustrations are great and there are still a lot of words. It takes her about 2-3 hours to read these stories. She doesn't cry or complain when I ask her to go read when she is reading about the wind dancers. There are also small toy horses that you can buy and she got one with her book at Christmas. As insentive I told her she couldn't open the toy until she read the book. Now she has read 2 of the books and hasn't opened the toy yet by her choice. She is almost finished with her second winddancer book and then she wants to open her toy. As a mom of a reluctant reader, I couldn't have asked for more. -Jody

And there's a strange man in her kitchen.

The question is, what does he want with her? Can he help her find a little old toy maker who has skipped out on his bail right before Christmas? Can he survive the Plum family holiday dinner? Can he get Stephanie a tree that doesn't look like it was grown next to a nuclear power plant? These questions and more are keeping Stephanie awake at night. The Manny Files 509734
"Be interesting."

That's what the manny tells Keats Dalinger the first time he packs Keats's school lunch, but for Keats that's not always the easiest thing to do. Even though he's the only boy at home, it always feels like no one ever remembers him. His sisters are everywhere! Lulu is the smart one, India is the creative one, and Belly . . . well, Belly is the naked one. And the baby. School isn't much better. There, he's the shortest kid in the entire class.

But now the manny is the Dalinger's new babysitter, and things are starting to look up. It seems as though the manny always knows the right thing to do. Not everyone likes the manny as much as Keats does, however. Lulu finds the manny embarrassing, and she's started to make a list of all the crazy things that he does, such as serenading the kids with "La Cucaracha" from the front yard or wearing underwear on his head or meeting the school bus with Belly, dressed as limo drivers. Keats is worried. What if Lulu's "Manny Files" makes his parents fire the manny? Who will teach him how to be interesting then?]]>

I am currently reading this book along with another one. I enjoy how it is written. And I think I have just figured it out. But still about 1/2 the book to go. The part I find intersting is how the victims are being murdered. And that part of the story is written as the detective tries to solve the case, and the other part that is woven in is a newspaper or magazine article in instalments after the crime has already been solved.

This book started out creepy and sad, and it ended the same way. I was frustrated through out much of the story. The ending really bothered me and I wish it would have been different. There was another reviewer who wrote about two rapes in this book, and I agree with him. When reading this book, I felt empty, angry, and sad. I think this is what the author wanted. Maybe the Author wanted us to notice two rapes. I kept waiting for something happy to happen, but maybe she wasn't writing to come up with a happy ending. Maybe she wanted to focus more on the consequences of our actions. We can only guess without talking to the author herself. It's funny, some of my favorite movies are ones that don't have a happy ending or an ending you would expect. My dad calls all the movies that end with a happy ending, The Karate Kid. Basically, there is an underdog, then a struggle and challenge for the underdog, and then the underdog wins. These are great light no brainer movies, but don't we really enjoy the ones that end different? Like the Secret Window. I loved the ending of that movie! So why is this book any different? I don't know, I just know I really wanted something happy while I was reading it.

Great book. It took me a bit to get into it, once he was captured, it picked up for me. Which is only chapter 2. At first I thought it was similar to another book I read by Dekker, but it wasn't. For him being a military man in his poistion, I thought he would have probably jumped in quicker to end it, but I understand why he didn't. Good book.

The Testament 78182
Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament .]]>

Fun book, I found myself often shaking my head and saying, what are you thinking? But I really enjoyed it. For a nonchristian book, I think many of my christian friends would really enjoy this one. Some characters are stereo typical, but still a good book. I wanted such a different ending but this was appropriate too.

This first book made you laugh, but mostly kept you on the edge of your seat, wanting to see how it all ended. The bad guy is truely creepy, and makes you check all your doors and windows. <![CDATA[Fearless Fourteen (Stephanie Plum, #14)]]> 2292384 Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn't be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom's sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom's release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He's getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter "Mooner" Dunphy, stoner and "inventor" turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can't afford a lot on a cop's salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She's a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she's involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie's evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Someone asked if I reccomended this, but couldn't respond because I wasn't part of the group. so I will try it here. YES! I am loving this book! I have laughed out loud more times with this book then with many of the others. Of course Grandma Mazure is in it a lot, and she is freakin hillarious!

Grandma Mazure: "If we found the money, I could get a sports car!"
Her Daughter:" You don't have a license."
Grandma Mazure:"And a hot driver to go along with it!"

She just cracks me up!

Ok, just finished this book today and I really loved it! The one thing I notice with the Stephanie plum books is that you get towards the end and think how can there only be ten pages left, we haven't solved the crime yet. It almost feels like the climax is the end. There isn't a climb then a cimax, and then the downhill ride. It is a steady climb to the end and it typically ends at the top. Some how it works. OK, I have just another chapter before I am done with this book, but I think I can post my review.

This book caught me in the beginning right away! Then the next few chapters were a little drudging for me, but once they finally got into the miners story, the book picked up again and it was hard to put down. It was only a few chapters into the book before it got to this part. It is all necessary, but had a hard time keeping my attention until the Miner's story. Then from there it just flew. Good action, good mystery, good interpersonal relations, was only dissapointed with one part of the book, but I can't say without spoiling it. But I really wanted a happy ending for one character in particular. And it may have been ok, but it was just not what I wanted for him. Dirk Pitt is a great character. Loved his part in it all. Not as action packed as I would have liked, but the mystery kept it rolling nicely. I would reccomend this book, and will probably read more of the Dirk Pitt series.]]>

I didn't realize I hadn't returned to post my full review. I did finish the book. Now keep in mind as I write my review I am not a big romance reader. I love mystery, and action. A small ammount of romance is ok, but I am not a gusher. With that in mind, this book was just "ok" for me. It was very anticlimatic. I watched the movie, and though the book for the most part was better, the battle to protect his love in the movie was much better then the book. In the book it felt like he showed up, and she passed out and next thing you know you are in the hospital. No details really. I think this book would have been much better if the author got together with an action writer and co-wrote the battle scene. I think it would have made thier "romance" that much better. It stayed a teeny bopper book for me through out the entire book. If I was a teen I would have probably loved it like the rest, maybe. <![CDATA[The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society]]> 2728527
“Treat yourself to this book, please - I can’t recommend it highly enough. (Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love)

“I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.

January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb....

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island - boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all. Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.

Praise for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society

“A jewel... Poignant and keenly observed, Guernsey is a small masterpiece about love, war, and the immeasurable sustenance to be found in good books and good friends. (People)

“A book-lover’s delight, an implicit and sometimes explicit paean to all things literary. (Chicago Sun-Times)

“A sparkling epistolary novel radiating wit, lightly worn erudition and written with great assurance and aplomb. (The Sunday Times [London])

“Cooked perfectly à point: subtle and elegant in flavour, yet emotionally satisfying to the finish. (The Times [London])]]>

The Bluest Eye 11337 The Bluest Eye is Toni Morrison's first novel, a book heralded for its richness of language and boldness of vision. Set in the author's girlhood hometown of Lorain, Ohio, it tells the story of black, eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove. Pecola prays for her eyes to turn blue so that she will be as beautiful and beloved as all the blond, blue-eyed children in America. In the autumn of 1941, the year the marigolds in the Breedloves' garden do not bloom. Pecola's life does change—in painful, devastating ways.

With its vivid evocation of the fear and loneliness at the heart of a child's yearning, and the tragedy of its fulfillment. The Bluest Eye remains one of Toni Morrison's most powerful, unforgettable novels- and a significant work of American fiction.]]>

Of Mice and Men 7612 “I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why.

They are an unlikely pair: George is "small and quick and dark of face"; Lennie, a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. Yet they have formed a "family," clinging together in the face of loneliness and alienation. Laborers in California's dusty vegetable fields, they hustle work when they can, living a hand-to-mouth existence. But George and Lennie have a plan: to own an acre of land and a shack they can call their own.

While the powerlessness of the laboring class is a recurring theme in Steinbeck's work of the late 1930s, he narrowed his focus when composing Of Mice and Men, creating an intimate portrait of two men facing a world marked by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. But though the scope is narrow, the theme is universal: a friendship and a shared dream that makes an individual's existence meaningful.

A unique perspective on life's hardships, this story has achieved the status of timeless classic due to its remarkable success as a novel, a Broadway play, and three acclaimed films.]]>

This is the first time I have ever read this book. I loved it! I just finished it a few minutes ago and the ending is still festering in my mind. I won't give it away, but I didn't expect the ending. I can see why it is a classic. I haven't decided if I want to set this one free or not. So for now it will be part of my permanent collection. But I highly recommend it.

Speak 123105
"Speak up for yourself—we want to know what you have to say."

From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big fat lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops, so now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, she becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back, refuses to be silent, and thereby achieves a measure of vindication.

In Laurie Halse Anderson's powerful novel, an utterly believable heroine with a bitterly ironic voice delivers a blow to the hypocritical world of high school. She speaks for many a disenfranchised teenager while demonstrating the importance of speaking up for oneself.

Speak was a 1999 National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature.]]>

This was an interesting read. Written layout is a bit different then other books. But good storyline. Almost didn't finish it but the ending made the book more worth it for me.

This is Cornwells first book. And you can tell a big difference in her writing. Her characters have a lot more edge to them. And Her Crimes are more scary. This one had a lot of descriptive in it, and for me it felt a bit dark. A great mystery, but like I said, a bit dark for me. However, I can't wait to start the next one. So many books, so little time.

<![CDATA[Stones from the River (Burgdorf Cycle, #1)]]> 77163 9780684844770

From the highly acclaimed, award-winning author of Floating in My Mother's Palm comes a stunning novel about ordinary people living in extraordinary times.

Trudi Montag is a Zwerg—a dwarf—short, undesirable, different, the voice of anyone who has ever tried to fit in. Eventually she learns that being different is a secret that all humans share—from her mother who flees into madness, to her friend Georg whose parents pretend he's a girl, to the Jews Trudy harbors in her cellar.

Ursula Hegi brings us a timeless and unforgettable story in Trudi and a small town, weaving together a profound tapestry of emotional power, humanity, and truth.]]>

Thanks again for this book! I really did enjoy it. It did take me about 40 pages to get into it, but once I made that connection with the characters, I was hooked. There are a lot of characters to keep track of,and that was a bit challenging. It is definately a deep book, not a light book at all. It is the longest book I have ever read, and I am glad I pushed past those first 40 pages. I love how you get a perspective of the Germans during this time. I think that is a rare find. It is very truthful and heart wrenching. I think it must have taken some courage to write it. I do need a bit of help with the ending, and I made a forum about it. So any insite you have would be great

Loved this book! If you are a Christian who believes in Rapture, this book makes it a little easier to understand. But keep in mind it is Fiction based on Biblical truths. And if you like suspense, drama, and action, this book is one you will like! Kept me hooked and reading until I was done! Hope someone else likes it as much. It is the first in a large series.
