الرواية تتكلم وتصور الحياة مع بداية اكتشاف النفط والتحولات المتسارعة التي حلت بمدن وقرى الجزيرة العربية بسبب أكتشاف النفط.

أجزاء الرواية
1-التيه: يتناول الجزء الأول بوادر ظهور النفط في الجزيرة العربية من خلال سكانها وتظهر شخصية متعب الهذال الرافضة كتعبير عن الموقف العفوي لأصحاب الأرض مما اجبر السلطة أن تستعمل العنف. يصف هذا الجزء بالتفصيل بناء المدن الجديدة (حران كانت النموذج) والتغيرات القاسية والعاصفة على المستوى المكاني وخاصة الإنساني.
2-الأخدود: في الجزء الثاني ينتقل منيف إلى تصوير اهل السلطة والسياسة في الصحراء التي تتحول إلى حقل بترولي. نقطة البداية كانت انتقال الحكم من السلطان خربيط إلى ابنه خزعل الذي يمنح كل التسهيلات إلى الأمريكان لتحقيق مخططاتهم. الشخصية الرئيسية في هذا الجزء هو مستشار السلطان الجديد صبحي المحملجي الملقب بالحكيم وهو من أصل لبناني جاء إلى حران أولا كطبيب ثم ينتقل إلى العاصمة موران بحس مغامر ليرتقي إلى أكبر المناصب ويبسط نفوذه. في هذا الجزء تزداد وتيرة التحولات حدة وسرعة بحيث لا يستطيع أحد أن يتنبأ بما ستؤول اليه الأمور. ينتهي هذا الجزء في لحظة انقلاب فنر على اخيه حين كان خارج موران.
3-تقاسيم الليل والنهار: يعود الجزء الثالث إلى جذور العائلة الحاكمة إلى سنوات التصارع القبائلي التي تتوج خربيط كأهم حاكم في المنطقة في اللحظة التي يقتحم فيها الغرب الصحراء فيجد في تحالفه مع خربيط وسيلة لامتلاك الثروة التي كان يبحث عنها ويستغل السلطان ذلك الظرف للهيمنة على كل ما يمكن أن تطاله يده ويعود هذا الجزء إلى نشأة كل من خزعل وفنر.
4-المنبت: الجزء الرابع هو عبارة عن سيرة خزعل في المنفى حتى وفاته مع رصد للتغييرات الانقلابية التي فرضها فنر ومحاولته أن يحول مسار الصحراء من جديد متخلصا من بقايا سياسات أبيه وأخيه والنفوذ الأامريكي ويبدأ في تأسيس دولة بأجهزة موالية له ذات ملامح قاسية كالصحراء.
5- بادية الظلمات: بعد أن يستقر الأمر بلا منازع لفنر يعود منيف لرصد حالة الناس في ظل هذه المتغيرات حيث لا تبقى العادات هي نفسها ولا حتى الأمكنة ويتغير حتى شكل الانتماء والهوية. في هذا الجزء الأخير يصبح اسم الأرض بالدولة الهديبية ويصبح فنر شخصية أسطورية لكنه ينتهي بالاغتيال من خاصته.

تتحدث الرواية عن راع أندلسي شاب يدعى سانتياغو. مضى للبحث عن حلمه المتمثل بكنزٍ مدفون قرب أهرامات مصر، بدأت رحلته من أسبانيا عندما إلتقى الملك "ملكي صادق" الذي أخبره عن الكنز، عَبَرَ مضيق جبل طارق ماراً بالمغرب حتى بلغ مصر، وكانت توجهه طوال الرحلة إشارات غيبية.

وفي طريقه للعثور على كنزه الحلم، أحداث كثيرة تقع، كل حدث منها استحال عقبة تكاد تمنعه من متابعة رحلته، إلى أن يجد الوسيلة التي تساعده على تجاوز هذه العقبة....

]]> سيرة المرأة جدل لا ينتهي 33004568 يتحدّث هذا الكتاب في جزئه الأوّل باختصار عن شخصيّةٍ محوريةٍ هي "المرأة". ويستند إلى عددٍ كبيرٍ من الحكايات والقصص الّتي وثّقتها كتب التّراث والأساطير القديمة وبعض الحكايات الشّعبية. هو عبارة عن محاولة سردية،لإعادة كتابة سيرة المرأة بشكلٍ بسيطٍ يخلو من التّعقيد، ويبتعد عن الفلسفة والتّنظير، ويهرب من التّحيّز إلى رأي أو إلى وجهة نظرٍ من دون أخرى. فتجد إلى جانب الحكايات والقصص والأساطير بعض التّحقيقات الصّحفية عبر الأنترنت، وبعض الأمثال العالمية والمحكية، وعرض مختصر لبعض الكتب الّتي تحدّثت عن المرأة. والكتاب في مجمله لا يُعنى بشرح القصص أو إطالة التّعليق عليها.
المرأة هنا هي حوّاء في أسطورة الخلق، وهي "المحروقة" في شريعة "مانو"، والعاقر في شريعة الهنود، وهي الرّهينة لدى البابليين، وهي الحكيمة والكاهنة والجارية والسّبيًة والْمَوْؤدَةٌ وكلّ شيء عند العرب، وهي الزّانية والعاهرة والفاسقة في بعض الحالات والذّهنيات.
المرأة هنا هي (هيباتيا) الّتي ذهبت ضحية التّطرف، والزّوجة السّرية الّتي اغتصبها الجميع، وهي أيقونة التّشفي والنّكد لدى الفلاسفة والمثقفين. هي أيقونة الضّياع "سالومي"،وهي قاطعة الطّريق لدى توفيق الحكيم، والإنسان النّاقص لدى "شوبنهاور". هي الجارية والمحماق والحيزبون والشّمطاء والهيفاء وكلّ الأوصاف في أدبيات التّراث.
المرأة هنا هي عصب الأساطير، هي "بسيكة"، وباندورا ولاماتسو وساحرة الجبل العجوز، وهي فالقة في اليمن.
وهي أيضًا أيقونة العلم والذّكاء والإبداع والتّفوّق والإرادة، كما في سيرة "تاكيكو" اليابانية، و"هيلين كيلر" و"غراتسيا ديليدا" و"ماري كوري".
وفي سيرة المرأة تصًوّف وحبّ للوهم والأبراج، ومادة تراثية خصبة للغزل والطّرافة والسّذاجة. كما في قصص "ذات النـّحـْيًن" و"الجارية بُصيًص".
والمرأة هنا أيقونة المغامرة والغواية، هي النّضيرة بنت الضّيزن وفرجة بنت الفجاء وهند بنت عوف. وفي مكانٍ مشرقٍ هي "سلمى الغفارية" الأنثى الحرّة الّتي خلّصت نفسها من قيود السّبيّ. وهي "سلمى المتدلية" الّتي أنقذت قومها، وهي فاطمة الكاهنة العفيفة، وهي الزّوجة فاسدة الرّأي الّتي أفسدت رأي السّلطان وصاح بالنّاس: "أيّها النّاس لا تثقوا بالنّساء".
والمرأة أيضًا هي "أوسكابي" الّتي ناضلت من أجل حقّ النّساء في العمل،وهي "سامية العمودي" الّتي تحدّت المرض، وكذلك هي البنت الصّغيرة الّتي كبرت وصارت بابًا للرّزق واللّطف والرّحمة.

الخطوةُ الأولى

أوّل مَنْ نَفّذَ من جمارك المطار، سند رشدان، هذا أمرٌ طبيعيٌّ ليس فيه ما يدعو إلى الرّيبة إلّا أنيابه المتباعدة، وحقيبة سفره الفارغة إلّا من ثوبٍ قذرٍ وسروالٍ قديمٍ وشماغٍ برتقاليٍّ كأنّه لم يغسل منذ سنةٍ.
عبرت أنا، واستوقف موظّف الجمارك حقيبة سليمان، وراح ينبشها،
وسأله بكل سذاجه :
- لماذا جئتم إلى باكستان؟
- بذكاءٍ أجاب سليمان: "جئنا لدراسة الطّبّ"!
الكلّ ينظر نحونا، ثيابنا تدلّ على هويّتنا، ماعدا سليمان، الّذي كان يرتدي ملابسَ رياضيّةً فضفاضةً، ولا تشير ملامحه الوسيمة، وبشرته البيضاء، إلى أيّ دلالةٍ على تلك الصّحراء الّتي جئنا منها.
لقد واجهنا صعوبة الحصول على تاكسي، وكان ذلك بعد انتظارٍ طويلٍ، وقضَيْنا أوّل ليلةٍ في نُزلٍ متواضعٍ وكئيبٍ. وفي الأيّام الآتية، وجدنا مَنْ يدلّنا إلى الجهات الّتي تنتظرنا، حتّى وصلنا إلى مكتب الخدمات في إسلام أباد، وهناك بدأت حكاية التّيه.
استقرّ سليمان على رغبته، بالانضمام إلى إحدى الهيئات الإنسانية الّتي كانت تقوم بأعمالٍ إغاثيةٍ للمجاهدين الأفغان في أثناء حربهم مع الرّوس.
ربّما حبّه للطّبّ وخدمة الفقراء والجرحى، جعلته يختار الإغاثة، وربّما أنّ سليمان لم يتعوّدْ شظف الحياة، أو أنّه كما عرفنا شخصيّته تنبذ العنف والإقصاء والتّطرّف.
