In the last year, Allie's survived three arrests, two breakups and one family breakdown. The only bright point has been her new life at Cimmeria Academy. It's the one place she's felt she belongs. And the fact that it's brought dark-eyed Carter West into her life hasn't hurt either. But far from being a safe haven, the cloistered walls of Cimmeria are proving more dangerous than Allie could have imagined. The students and faculty are under threat, and Allie's family - from her mysterious grandmother to her runaway brother - are at the centre of the storm. Allie is going to have to choose between protecting her family and trusting her friends. But secrets have a way of ripping even the strongest relationships apart...

4.5 stars ... And wow!
It’s no secret that I didn’t much care for Night School. While I thought there was nothing wrong with it technically, it just didn’t leave much of an impression. But I’ve been known to change my mind before, and I’ve changed my mind this time. Everything C.J. Daugherty failed to do with Night School, she did with Legacy, and then some. The characters were more memorable, the plot was absolutely thrilling, and even the love triangle wasn’t as obnoxious as last time. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Before all else, I feel the need to say more about this formerly obnoxious love triangle. I have never in my entire life switched teams mid series, not once, but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. Daugherty expertly manipulated me into liking Carter a lot less, and liking Sylvain infinitely more, and yet I never felt manipulated at all. Other authors have tried, I assure you, it just never worked before. So mark this day on your calendars because I’m about to write something I doubt I’ve ever written before: this love triangle works! Every time Allie changed her mind, I changed mine too, and every time she was confused, I was right there alongside her. I obviously have a favorite now, but she’s already pushed me into changing my mind once, she could just as easily do it again. Brava, Ms. Daugherty. Well done.

Daugherty showed her ability to successfully transform her characters through more than just Sylvain. Jo was a different person altogether wounded, insecure and vulnerable after everything she’s been through, but more composed and reliable as well. Some new characters were introduced, and I found them all very interesting, especially Rachel’s father Raj Patel and Sylvain’s friend Nicole. Old enemies were still there, but as soon as the truth about Allie’s family came to light, some new ones showed up as well.

Just the other day I was sitting here, chatting with a friend and shamelessly making fun of boarding school books (with a few exceptions, of course), and now I am forced to eat my words. Or just add Night School to that very short list of exceptions. I adore Cimmeria Academy. I adore the idea behind it, I adore the teachers and I desperately want to be an advanced Night School student. (Only I’m not very athletic so that would never, ever work.) This series is a new favorite of mine and my expectations for the third book are sky high.

Legacy doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, but it does have an open ending, so be prepared for quite a few unanswered questions. It didn’t bother me. To be honest, I barely noticed, I was too busy crying and worrying and crying some more.

Finally, I’m not usually overdramatic, but please allow me to say this: Oh my God, my heart is broken, I doubt I’ll ever, ever (ever!) recover! Please write faster, C.J. Daugherty!

"Keep breathing, Allie."
"Always."

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY LIFE NOW, THIS BOOK KILLED ME. AGAIN!

I will never be able to explain how much this book means to me. It helps me deal with so many things in my life that otherwise I wouldn't even bother to deal with. It helps me copy with my anxiety, my friends, my family. Its meaning is so important and it's something everyone should read!

**spoilers**

Finishing the last book, I was so excited about Carter and Allie being together, so when she returned to the Academy after the London attack (God that was awful) and she found Carter there, waiting for her, my heart skipped several beats. The first time they were together after so many days, they almost had sex but thankfully they didn't; Allie wasn't ready for something like that. But you can't tell me the "I care about you, Allie Sheridan. A lot," and the "I care about you, Carter West. A lot," isn't the new "I love you" because I won't ever believe you!

But then Allie joined Night School and everything started falling apart. Carter's possessive and overprotecting self came to the surface and the problems started. The only good thing about the whole story was that Allie learnt how to protect herself and also baby girl Zoey.

UGH, I love Zoey Glass so much. She's so young and original, you know? She, Rachel and Allie are the new ot3 lol.

And then Christopher's letter arrived and Allie chose to tell Sylvain and not Carter. So one thing led to another and Carter and Allie broke up. GOD MY HEART. IT WAS SO SAD.

So naturally I was mad when Carter was kissing Jules in front of Allie at the Winter Ball. Baby boy acted like an idiot (yes I'm admitting it). So I really don't judge Allie for kissing someone else too. What I blame her about is that this someone was Sylame; I understand that she needed someone to be by her side but really girl? Sylame? He tried to rape you, for god's sake!

But to be completely honest, I think I'm beginning to forgive him. Not forgive him forgive him, I just acknowledge his effort to make up for his bullshit. I will never forgive him for trying to rape Allie and I will never choose him over Carter. I just don't think I hate him as much as I used to.

The last 3 chapters ENDED me. When I say ENDED, I mean ENDED. Holy fuck, Allie meeting Lucinda, Jo's death, Allie being taken by Gabe, the car crash MY HEART SWEETIE
I don't think I can ever go back to how things were before Jo died. My girl deserved better than to die, and by Gabe's hand above everything!
And the epilogue was the best part of the book, no kidding. When Carter helped Allie walk from the bed to the window and back and he kissed her on the forehead and told her he was sorry....MY TEARS. THEY HAVE SUCH A STRONG IMPACT ON ME

Life is full of pain, and you might as well get used to that right now.
It doesn't go away. It accumulates.
Like snow.
You just get better at dealing with it.

So nothing really happened in this book and the love triangle made it so much worse. I will never understand the need to destroy a character just so we can have an excuse for it to happen. But oh well, what do I know.

I'll keep reading because I want some answers and hopefully I'll be less annoyed by the end of the next book.

Το "Νυχτερινό Σχολείο" της C.J.

Let it be noted that I skimmed through most of the book in the matter of mere hours and I didn't find this book interesting and flashed-out enough to deserve my attention of reading it word-to-word.

(Link: )

So what's in store for us this time? A heroine who is as funny and clever as a doormat, who is pinned after by two hot guys (one prince charming and one brooding bad boy, any one?), lot and lot of teenage soap operatic love dramas and love triangle which drown out everything else in the story (e.g. the supposedly important conspiracy surrounding the school which has kind of gotten shoved to the background).

Plus what is the deal with a boy telling his girlfriend not to hang out with her other suitor!? Since when it's okay for a guy to tell his girlfriend whom she can befriend!?

Nothing about the conspiracy and the heroine's mysterious family background has gotten any explanation neither, AND NOTHING HAPPENS THROUGHOUT THE STORY. I'm so fucking done. I will drop this series entirely.

OK, so before I go on my praise fest I just have to say that this was really a slow-starter for me.... I think it was pretty much my fualt, becuase I had to mentally rewind and remember the last book. But, once I got my head in the game, it was on like Donkey Kong! I fell back in love with Allie, Rachel and (especially) Sylvain. Carter drove me insane and I will just say I was happy when the inevitable happened!

If I wasn't clear enough up there, I am 100% team Sylvain... but I typically pick the wrong guy, so there's that little problem. Carter was very protective and mistrusting of Allie this time, they just didn't spark for me in this book. All the chemistry seemed to ooze off of Allie-vain ;)

And, I have to note how sorry I felt for our girl with her whole brother situation. But, she gave me some proud reader moments. Allie does make bad desicions, but it seems like her heart is always in the right place.

I'll say it again, I thought I was over the whole boarding school thing, but these books are so awesome the setting really just adds to the fun!

4 stars and my curiosity is on overdrive! C'mon #3!!!!

Thankies to my dear friend Tina for sharing!

I really enjoyed Night School so I was excited to get my hands on a copy of the sequel Legacy and couldn't wait to see what would happen next in the story. After the revelations made at the end of the first book I was really interested to see how things would play out for Allie now she had learnt some of her family secrets. She certainly had an unusual introduction to life at Cimmeria Academy over the summer and the start of the new year looked set to be just as explosive. I can't fault the opening to Legacy, action packed and fast paced I was on the edge of my seat desperate to see how Allie would get out of the situation she had found herself in. Unfortunately once she arrived at the Academy I felt that the plot really slowed down and I ended up disappointed.

One of the things I loved most about Night School was how action packed it was but Legacy felt much more character driven. That isn't necessarily a bad thing but I like some kind of plot to go along with the character development. In this case very little actually seemed to happen, everyone continued to keep Allie in the dark, she got practically no more information about her family or what was actually going on and why Nathaniel was so determined to plot against the school. By the end of the book I don't feel I have answers to any of my questions and I was left feeling frustrated. I was also shocked at the behaviour of some of the characters, it seemed like Carter and Sylvain had completely switched personalities from the first book. I loved Carter before but in this instalment he was a complete idiot and the way he treated Allie made me so angry I wanted to punch something. On the other hand Sylvain, whose actions in the first book are still completely unforgivable, has turned into a really nice guy. I was shocked to find myself liking Sylvain and I did actually start to believe that he was sorry for the things he did before but in my mind that doesn't make them any more excusable and I still have a hard time letting that go.

Unfortunately Legacy definitely suffered with second book syndrome for me, I hate to give negative reviews but I was so bored that I almost stopped reading. The book is nearly 400 pages long and practically nothing happens, the only thing that kept me going to the end was my love for the first book. The main element of the book is relationship angst between Allie, Carter and Sylvain which is something I just wasn't interested in reading about. If it hadn't had such a major focus it wouldn't have bothered me but I found it all too much. After the action packed beginning you really have to wait until the last 20 pages for anything to happen and then I felt things were rushed over too quickly and we missed out on a lot of potential excitement.

I don't want to put people off reading the story because I definitely seem to be in the minority with this one - a lot of other bloggers have been giving it very high ratings. I have to be honest with my reviews though and tell you how I really feel about the books I read or there is no point in me even writing reviews in the first place. I'm sure I will pick up the next book in the series, I have so many unanswered questions about everything and I do really like Allie and want to know what happens to her. I just hope that I enjoy the next book as much as I enjoyed Night School.

Everything changes for Allie.
She enters the Night School. She finds new friends and loses old. She finds out that the Cimmeria Academy has more secrets than it seems and that Nathaniel has his people everywhere.
In the Night School Allie has to learn to understand when people lie and how they do it, but she does not quite like it because knowing that her closest friends lie to her is painful.

So does Sylvain. So does Carter. And even Allie.
Lies are everywhere. People are more and more suspicious of each other.
Allie finally realizes that Carter is not the person he pretends to be. She understands, that everything is more complicated and that Carter takes her freedom. While Allie is just confused and scared about her feelings and sometimes a bit too suspicious Carter is different.
He is possessive, sometimes he even seems obsessed with Allie. He does not believe in her and it hurts. She needs faith and she understands, that Carter cannot give her faith.
She also realizes that Sylvain changed. He is a better person in this book. Caring, soft and thoughtful. He helps Allie more than once, he risks everything for her. And what is far more important- He believes in her.
Now lies are not the only problem anymore. The main problem, like in the first book, is trust.

Whom can Allie trust? Can she trust Sylvain? Should she trust him? And what about Carter? And Rachel with whom Allie grows apart?
What about Jo, who acts more and more suspicious and whose personality is not steady any more?

Gabe reappears and he is black-hearted. Moreover, Allie's lost brother contacts her again and his letter tears Allie apart.
Allie has not enough information. Neither about Nathaniel, nor about the Night School and her grandmother Lucinda. But Allie knows that she needs this information.
She simply has to understand what it really going on and what the conflict is truly about...

This book is absolutely breathtaking, it is filled with danger and fear and suspicion. The dark and tensed atmosphere captures from the first until the very last page.
The tension in this book is nearly tangible! I like the first book, but I really love the second one!
The love-triangle finally moves to the background so it does not disturb the plot and its progression. I love the love triangle in this book, especially because it is completely comprehensible.
I love all the character and I love the fact that the book animates to ask questions and be suspicious!!

I highly recommend this book to everyone! It is an enjoyable read that make you look forward to the third book! :)

Just as amazing as book 1, if not better!

Legacy begins following the aftermath of Night School, with Allie on the run from people trying to hurt her. She immediately returns to Cimmeria, but because of everything that has already happened, she, quite rightly, is confused on who she can trust, and who is out to hurt her. The events of Legacy ramp up the action we already saw in Night School, making the series much more enjoyable and full of suspense.

Allie really starts to come into her own in this book, starting to deal with what Night School expects from her, whilst all the while trying to work out who to trust. All of the characters evolved in this book, some for the better, some for the worse, which is a credit to Daugherty to make me like characters I really hadn't earlier, and vice versa, especially Sylvain.

A lot of information comes out in this book, especially to do with Allie and her heritage, and yet again, the events at the end of the novel made me raring to read more.

I would definitely recommend this amazing UKYA Book to everyone!

4.5 stars

I quickly fell in love with C.J Daugherty debut novel, Night School. It has everything I adore in an escape; mystery, action, romance and thrilling characters. It also has this brilliant quality of being crazy consuming! I couldn't wait to see what Daugherty had in store for these characters next and I'm happy to say that Legacy turned out to be another favorite.

Legacy starts off with Allie on the run from men in suits who are chasing her through the London streets. Soon she finds refuge with Rachel's family and are back in Cimmeria Academy before term begins. The attack at the school left the academy in devastation and everyone works hard to rebuild the old gothic building before all the students come back. It's here that Isabelle tells Allie that she will be admitted into Night School, where she will learn how to protect herself from Nathaniel's men.
Only, Night School is a lot harder then Allie realized, physically, emotionally and morally.
Rules and secrets have a way of trapping you but lies and betrayal have a mind of it's own and soon Allie will have to decide where her true loyalties belong, no matter who she may lose in the process.

First off, I want to take a minute and just gush about the excellent writing style! I'm not sure what it is about Daugherty's books that have this all absorbing quality to it, but if I would have to pick one word to describe it, I guess it would be realistic. These characters and everything that happens in this book just feels so dame real! Vividly detailed, Daugherty has an exquisite flavor when she writes. From lavish details about the school and it's grounds, to every expression on each of these faces, to the fight scenes and clever witty dialog and banter. Every little aspect is set to motion where I feel like I'm transported in these pages and I can see everything in all it's richness. Then we have this incredibly maddening mysterious plot, and when I say mysterious, I mean I'm still not exactly sure what Night School is all about.
When you read a vampire book, you expect vampires to be in it. Same with werewolves, fairies and so on. But the beauty of this book is that it's like a label-less can. Daugherty doesn't give you all the answers, even in the second book, we're still not positively positive what's inside. This is both alluring as hell and aggravating, but funny enough it's not frustrating. In fact, I love not knowing, it only makes me want to read these books more!

I simply adore ever single one of these characters, even the bad dudes. They're all skillfully well developed. Allie felt so conflicted this year, with all that's happening at the academy plus all the vigorous training in Night School, not to mention her very daunting love life and all the family drama. Poor girl has had one helluva year. But Allie is such a resilient character. Solid and strong, she doesn't let things weigh her down long. She takes responsibility for things that she did wrong, learns from her mistakes and changes and grows because of them. She is definitely a character I can be proud of.
There really isn't any secondary characters in this book, or at least not for me. Everyone seems to have a very specific role and are quite involved with every aspect of the story, which I find fascinating and fun.
Jo, Rachel, Jules, Isabella, Lucas, Carter and Sylvain continue to bring in much entertainment as the story slowly starts to unfold. We even have a couple of new characters, Zoe Glass, our kickass zingy child-genius that is infectiously adorable and Nicole, who turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
There is a spy among us within the walls of Cimmeria Academy. It was fun to try to guess whodunit, but sadly, it will keep you guessing and leave you hanging till the next installment.

As for Allie's love life? Well, I wish I could be happy about that particular part of the story, but I'd be lying if I said I was. I'm the kind of reader who doesn't mind love triangles, but this one stabbed me in the heart. In all honestly, I don't think I would have minded so much if Carter stayed true to his character. In the first book, Carter West was hard to read and I couldn't quite get a fix on him, but he was still sweet, charming and a supportive friend and love interest. So it really shocked the hell out of me (and broke my heart) to see this overbearing, possessive, difficult and unreasonable Carter that unfortunately graced us in this book. He's still Carter, but he's...different, wrong somehow and I just didn't like it.
I'm all for giving second chances to characters who prove redeemable, and Sylvain has proven time and time again that he regrets what he did, but I'm not happy with this new romantic development. Sure, he may have been the better man this round, but I don't feel any chemistry when Allie and Sylvain are together. He had his chance in the first book and blew it. End of story, but hey, they can still be friends.
So yes, I'm waving my 'Team Carter' flag proudly in hopes that he doesn't let me down and things play out differently in later books.

Bottom line, I seriously couldn't love a series more. It's crazy addicting, outstanding writing and real heart and soul characters that have you invested at minute one. This is without a doubt one of the most intense and intriguing stories I ever read. It's grips you and doesn't let go till the very last page and even then it will consume your thoughts long after the story is done. The ending shattered my heart and there is still so much we don't know and so much we still need to learn, so I can't begin to express how badly I need the next book!
A must read for fans who enjoy mystery-suspense, thrilling action and an unstoppable romance.

Sylvain just ruined the story. I mean how can we minimise the actions of an abuser? It makes me sick.

I gave this one star for one reason only. That is, I just can't get my head wrapped about how can a sane girl ever make up and kiss with her would be date-rapist??? I so don't care that he saved her life and he's making sad puppy eyes at her, what's happening it's just plain wrong. Every time she kisses him and having feelings for him I just cringe inside. And outside too. Because not only did he assault her after getting her drunk, but he admitted he did that with a number of girls before. But hey,he's sorry he did that to her because she's so special and not like the others??? How sick is that! And to think that teenage girls are reading this and they could be thinking it's ok to let go such a thing because, you know, this term he assaulted you but maybe next term he'll be all prince charming on a white horse. I was very much hopping that Allie would follow Rachel's advice and find her inner strength instead of mopping all over herself like any ordinary girl her age. Because she was suppose to be special, you know? I was already disappointed because she was very promising in the beginning, a rebel in the middle of a posh academy, I was so hoping for, like, a new Beatrice Prior, you know? But, nope, two days at the school and she's already in line with everyone else, model student and all, craving the attention of the other kids... gee shallow much? But, with this "feelings" for the rapist wanna-be Sylvain (sorry but I will never get over it) my leftover respect I had for her just plummeted into the deepest abyss ever and took the review stars with it. If not for that, I would have given, maybe 3.5, even 4 stars for the plot and the suspense. In the end, I'd like to apologize for the possible mistakes in my writing, since English is not my main language.
