2020 ARC's are already circulating. What are you reading?

Is it distinguished?

Sweeping Up The Heart by Kevin Henkes. The book is perfection.

I have read a lot about The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise. It is out in early January and I do not have an ARC of it. But I love Dan Gemeinhart's books and can't wait to get my hands on it!

I have also heard a lot of good things about The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise and I think it sounds very good.

The 2020 ARC that I WANT WANT WANT is the new Megan Whalen Turner book that is said to complete the Queen's Thief series. Just as well I probably won't get my hands on it until ALA Midwinter -- I need to be reading this year's books! Also just as well that it didn't come up during my Newbery year -- because I'm assuming it's distinguished without even having read it.

I’ve preordered Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams that comes out January 15th. It has been described as not only as the book of the year, but as the best book ever.

Oh, I'm so glad you reminded me of that one as I also have heard a lot of positives! I have it on my to read list but now I will also pre-order!

There may well be no ARCs as they may embargo it till the pub date, it being the final book. As for Newbery, it will take an open and willing committee to consider it. Books that are part of a series are so often difficult for Newbery committees. I'm chairing a different committee (Boston Globe-Horn Book) and hope that I don't have that problem. My committee would be allowed to read the previous books and talk about them. Newbery committee can't :(

Just read and liked a lot, Pat Cummings' Trace.

Am hearing great things about Angie Thomas's On the Come Up. Plan to read it in the next few weeks.

More promising titles to look out for: Renee Watson's Watch Us Rise, Kathi Applet's Angel Thieves (started and good so far:), Mitali Perkins' Forward Me Back to You.

Read and enjoyed very much Holly Goldberg Sloan and Meg Woltzer's To Night Owl from Dogfish.

Family is a Suprpower by Michael Dahl and Good Enough by Jan Petrochemical-Roy

I like the way the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award can consider so much the Newbery can't -- including illustrations and international books. I don't know if people will want to go back and read the series -- but it's nice to know that for that award, they can.

Other Words for Home sounds so good! I am definitely reading it this year.

January is my book splurge month (almost every year), where I just read a ton and then crash for a while, so I've read a few of what's been mentioned so far.

I'm not sure who normally makes the Mock Newbery list, but I made one just for my own brain, so I can see what I'm excited for this year and what is coming out.

Would love to have other people's votes for favs haha or things they are excited for.

I'm really excited for My Life as an Ice-Cream Sandwich. Ibi's books are always outstanding and am highly anticipating her debut into MG.

I've finished the graphic novel New Kid, and can't wait to see it in color. I think it's going to fill an important hole in our graphic novel section at my bookstore.

I love novels in verse and think Other Words for Home is going to be an important read for many!

Can't wait for monday to hear who won for last year!!! :D

Just announced that it now is pushed back to summer 2020. Megan needs more time which is fine.

A Good Kind of Trouble by Lisa Ramee sounds very distinguished. It is getting multiple starred reviews and has gotten praise from authors like Angie Thomas and Erin Entrada Kelly.

I love his books, too! Coyote Sunrise was definitely worth the read.

I got about half way through The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise yesterday and am loving it.

New Kid is so awesome, relevant and authentic. It's funny and serious at the same time. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Where is the March poll? I don't know how to get all these ARC books so will need to see if the public library has ordered whatever is selected.

Genesis Begins Again and New Kid are contenders - both are excellent and relevant AND kids would read them

I am halfway through The Bridge Home and am absolutely loving it. The story is very easy to follow, quick read but with powerful characters and appropriate for children (so far anyway). Amazing to have a story about such an ongoing issue (homeless children in India) that receives very little attention.

I just finished Genesis Begins Again. The story is excellent and I really liked Genesis. My problem is that the book is just too long,

I absolutely loved The Bridge Home. Although the story is very sad, it deals with real-life issues that some children face. It is on my list of possible Newbury contenders

I've just finished THE LINE TENDER by Kate Allen. It is firmly in my top four, along with THE BRIDGE HOME, PAY ATTENTION CARTER JONES, and A DROP OF HOPE.

I completed reading Eventown by Corey Ann Haydu this afternoon. I started it last night and couldn't stop. Today I procrastinated doing anything productive until I had finished Eventown and let me tell you, it was definitely worth it. Haydu writes in a way that I found both lyrical and accessible that made Elodee's, The MC's, situation just as intriguing as the character herself. I will be extremely surprised if this haunting and relatable story doesn't win any awards, especially The Newbery.

I agree- I finished Eventown a couple weeks ago and I am still thinking about it. Similar theme to The Giver- but an entirely different story. I plan to vote for it in our June poll.

I agree. It definitely reminded me of The Giver while I was reading it.

Absolutely loved “Shouting at the Rain,�� by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.
