Theresa Has anyone else finished Room yet? I'd really like to find out what others thought about this book. I gave it four stars because I thought it was well-written, the characters were interesting, and the plot was pretty much zowie (!). But all sorts of thoughts about it keep flying through my head.

message 2: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I just picked it up at the library, and I might have a lot of time to read on Thursday. My husband was called for Grand Jury in Trenton which is about an hour and a half away. He wants a co-pilot, so I will read while I wait for him.

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments I am smack in the middle of it right now. To me it started kinda slow and weird, but now that I am getting into it I am really liking it! I agree that it is well-written, the characters are very interesting and the plot has blown me away! I will let you know more when I am done!

Laurel (laureljean) I pick my copy up at the library tomorrow.

Andrea | 67 comments never heard of it ...

message 6: by Elise (new)

Elise I'm about half-way through, myself. Zowie is right! I can hardly put it down. I'm anxious to compare notes, Teresa, when I'm done.

message 7: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Great, Elise, and everyone else who is reading it. I can't wait to find out what others thought of it. Andrea, the story is narrated by a five-year-old boy who has lived his whole life in one small room with his mother, a kidnapping victim.

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments It was a pretty intense book, even though for me it started out slow. I am glad I finished it.

I'm listening to it and I'm having big expectations... Only an hour in....

*spoiler* hope I get past them having genders for everything. Maybe once I'm further along it will make more senses. However, the table is a living breathing thing to this boy and.... I'll hold off judgement till I'm further along. lol I know there is a lot more going on than I'm aware of at this point. Still understand the starting slow.

*spoil..."

Yes, it was kind of a slow start, but I think that's one of the consequences of having a 5-year-old narrator. The limited point of view gets a bit frustrating at times.

Tina (lancejrmommy) | 59 comments I read about 30 pages so far. I think it is starting out slow but I am glad to know it picks up.

message 15: by Sara (new)

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments I don't want to spoil anything but the whole room thing threw me off...I didn't get why they were in the rooom! then it was like "oh my gosh, why didn't I get that!"

message 16: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I had to return the book because it was due today. I hope to reserve it again.

message 17: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I'm on page 17 and having a hard time getting the rythm of a 5 yo narrator.....grrr. I have lots of time tonight to pick it up. I hope it grabs me soon!

message 18: by Tina (new)

Tina (lancejrmommy) | 59 comments It will. I read about 30 pages before it grabbed me and then I read it really quick after that.

message 19: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Finshed listening to Room earlier this week. Finally, felt better about the whole "personfication" of objects after it reached a certain point in the book.

spoiler****

Once they are out of the room helped to see the difference between what his experiences were on the outside world and that of Room. Totally bought into it by the end.

Sara (rstjm4) | 70 comments *SPOILER***

I just don't get why she lied to him...why not just tell him the truth? Then maybe it would have been easier to get him to go for the escape plan...

I know not sure about her approach myself. However, sure all part of her coping mechanisim as well regardless of how it affected him.
