Is that a thousand ships that Helen has just launched.

message 19: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments OK just to add some excitement, in my RL, the boss has been on National TV this morning launching a cheap computer for schools, the rasberry pi.

Forward the Frontier

message 20: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments I could say all my spelling mistakes are there for you to spot .... before I admit to not being able to spell.

Do spelling errors annoy you ! Where were the proof readers

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments How about some short sentences ....

Free Nelson Mandela

Few words much memory and provocation

message 22: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments We are a classless flight, with a huge library.

I though about borrowing the holo deck from the Enterprise so we could join in our favourite stories.

message 23: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Did I mention that Leicester is home to the National Space Centre for the UK.

message 26: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments free leonard pelletier

Ice laugh!

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Do we have a selection of 'ditty free' !

I think my order is water on the rocks, and plenty of them.

message 28: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Do you adopt tunnel vision when you read or am I the only one ?

message 29: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Cross your T's - Travel Time and Time Travel - reminds me of at least 2 books

message 30: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Was it 5 hours ago that I went into Village idiot mode, I am sure that GR technology will be enhanced one day to allow us to conference in real time.

Otherwise we need to congregate under the behemoths of commerce now that Skype is wrapped up in Seattle.

message 31: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Fresh air taken in, who let the dogs out !

Is Reading a game you can play with any size of team ?

message 32: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments In the age of digital media is holding a book deemed old fashioned ?

message 33: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments And whilst we are about it, and we have touched on this before: Where would you like to read, which maybe slightly different from where you do read both in location and position.

message 34: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments My favorite place to read is under a tree in the sun.
That being impossible, my next favorite place is in bed.
Tunnel vision infers a narrowing of focus, which occers but because of the peculiar nature of the book, which acts as a lens, or a doorway, there is a refraction and a widening of focus to allow the world of the book to unfold, allowing the reader to step in to the opening the writer gives us. Woouln't you agree?

I have just got up for the day to find it blanketed with snow. Ice Bear, you have have been muttering in my sleep. Where is everybody? I did try to convince you we needed a passeger list. Will we all converge today or is that why trip so long? You figure that it will take about 2 years to achieve?

message 35: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments I am 16 minutes away from you

message 36: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Chilled bear likes to read outdoors in temperate climate, with snow on the visible mountains and sunlight on the sea.

Can someone move Gozo next to the Alps ?

message 37: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (last edited Feb 29, 2012 08:42AM) (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments the facts are amazing enough
stick with synchronicity and the facts

message 38: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Perhaps I found my reading location 'Narnia' in a book or was it 'Never Never Land'. A lake will do, not overly fussed about water, except trying to land on it.

message 39: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments well youve got your fur coat to keep you toasty.
I find the cold distracting.

message 40: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Welcome to our version of 'the cloud' !

Just switching to auto pilot for a few hours, have fun uncovering my random thought patterns.

message 41: by Jim (new)

Jim A lovely day here in the South of France where the mercury just kissed the 60 degree mark this afternoon. Spent two hours in the Jardin Public reading David Foster Wallace essays in the semi-shade of the now naked plane trees... may become a new favorite place to read.

Time for dinner. I ordered the Kosher, low-salt meal. And can I have a new headset please!?

message 42: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (last edited Feb 29, 2012 10:05AM) (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments right now I am experiencing some kind of technological lust/envy for a device that would let me keep up with this experiment while I carry on with the day here,
(not too mention the more usual envy of lolling in les Jardins in the south of France) but there it is, I have to get to work. Will check back with interest to see what/how the mix evolves.
Jim and BB, you two know each other? See if you can entice Ian and Paul to join in.

message 43: by Ian (last edited Feb 29, 2012 12:50PM) (new)

Ian "Marvin" Graye I fell asleep early this evening after taking our dog Charlie and the neighbour's dog Zak for a crepuscular walk.

I read two pages of The Recognitions before nodding off. I slept uneasily as if I knew I was running late for a plane. I was.

I've woken up and it's tomorrow, 1 March.

The Bieb's birthday is today. Can he drink legally now?

When I arrive on time for my plane, I prefer a front aisle seat.

I slide down the tray table as soon as the seat belt sign has been turned off, place my analogue book on it and get my pencil ready.

I'm ready to read.

Oh, Brian, you know you only have to rub my bottle.

message 45: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (last edited Feb 29, 2012 05:36PM) (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments The sun came out! The snow melted away! I'm home from work! It's just after 5pm and it is still light out! Anybody awake or have you all fallen asleep over your books?

Kinkajou, what did you finally settle on to read?

It must be midnight along the meridian that takes in Ice Bear, Jim, and Paul B and Jackie?

Gundula, did you move? Or am I mistaken you live up North?

on the east coast, about 9pm? Ellie, Kinkajou, HRO must be still pottering about...?/

BB and Melissa are in the same time zone, Ian in a time zone of his own...

Hey out there, I'm rubbing the bottle!

message 46: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments Bird Brian wrote>This year, I'm going to try to read some things outside my established habits

since that has been the driving force behind my reading choices over the last two years, May I offer a couple of approaches. One is to compile a list of books you've always put off reading, then read them in the order that suggests itself.

Another method is to compile a list of the authors you've disdained to read, even including a couple who are repulsive to you, and read at least one or preferably two books of each one.

You could also join some reading groups and read what they tell you. You could also just read everything your friends recommend :-)

message 47: by Magdelanye, Senior Flight Attendant (last edited Feb 29, 2012 05:40PM) (new)

Magdelanye | 2810 comments storm alert! Just read that the GR site will be shut down for repairs for half an hour or so, around 6pm.

there may be some irregularites for a patch, then smoother sailing, they say. http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/34...

I shall go attend to dinner and check in again later.
I am still hoping for some kind of convergance:-)

message 48: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Wave to Vangelis on his Pulstar.

Space and Music holds my thoughts as I turn off the auto pilot.

And will recap on those open questions.

Thank you for travelling.

message 49: by Ice, Pilgrim (new)

Ice Bear (neilar) | 822 comments Though I am past one hundred thousand miles I am feeling very still.

Its interesting how sunshine enters our preferential reading locations, even though it is often too bright and can melt the glue binding the pages.

Walking upside down in the sky I see the satellites passing by.

Ground Control to Major Tom, your circuit's dead, there's something wrong!

Can you hear me Major Tom???

It's hard to read in the direct sunlight, as you say, but if you can find shade that still gives you good light from the sky, it's really wonderful!!
