But I also read with quite a float, to the extent that I remembered halfway through the read that this is the author who, I noted in reading previously, installs his work with humor through a retreading mechanism that felt in the earlier work to be heavyhanded. And once I remembered his mechanism, I started to read with a heightened attention to whether or not the retreading mechanism was at work, and - especially when I returned to reading from the day prior - I, of course, noted how many sentences would retread something which was already said, a whole fragment would appear which I had read previously. But if one were to ignore the retreading mechanism, by which Solstad presents whole fragments which the reader has already read, having seen them in the same book just the day or the paragraph prior, then the reader would be presented with a charming story, although I can't claim to be in love with how much of the narrative journey here is installed around a frigid and vain woman losing her charm in growing older and "flabby.""
