"Después de leer “Catedrales�� me declaré fan de Claudia Piñeiro, algo temprano y precipitado para sólo haber leído un libro 🫣😂, pero leyendo “Las viudas de los jueves�� ¡sigo reiterando mi admiración! Le puse 4 ⭐️ solo porque ya había visto la serie en Netflix y ya sabía lo que iba a pasar (por eso trato de no ver primero las películas o series 🙈).

La crítica a la sociedad capitalista, a los grandes señores, al machismo de un círculo cerrado y clasista, al orgullo y a la estupidez del ego masculino y ego femenino es evidente. Está situado en Argentina, pero se vive en tooodo el mundo. Piñeiro nos recuerda en la clase de seres humanos que nos podemos convertir cuando podemos poseer tanto poder y dinero en las manos, como podemos pisotear y comprar a otro ser humano, olvidándonos de la vulnerabilidad y la mortalidad con la que nacimos.

Si hay algo en lo que es buena Claudia, es construyendo personajes aborrecibles pero que amas por lo bien escritos que están. "

Castel begins with a confession from his jail cell that he killed Maria, and the reader is brought into the mind of a tortured man with an obsession. Castel is an artist who notices Maria examining a special part of his painting, and he feels like she is the only person who really understands him and his art. He's a lonely man who becomes increasingly possessive and jealous as the story unfolds. He has the existential belief in the emptiness of life.

Castel feels like he has been traveling through a dark and solitary tunnel for his entire life:

"And in one of those transparent places in the wall of stone I had seen that woman and had thought naively that she was moving through another tunnel parallel to mine when, in reality, she was out in the open world, the limitless world of those who do not live in tunnels; and perhaps out of curiosity she had approached one of my strange windows, and had glimpsed the spectacle of my unredeemable solitude, or had been intrigued by the mute message, the key of my painting."

The book has a few instances of dark humor, but most of the writing is very intense as Castel spirals into madness. It would not be a book for everyone since it is so dark. However, Argentinian author Ernesto Sabato has done some excellent writing in this first-person narrative of Castel's inner life."
