This charming novel about found family is a gem. Kevin Wilson has a light touch with flawed characters and imbues them with a generous spirit. It’s the warmth and kindness in this book that overcomes any flaws. His writing and stories are a delight. 4.5*

This is a great listen to learn what life is like inside a communist country, in this case North Korea. By outlawing any foreign books, press, radio and tv, the youth is brought up on the Communist propaganda. At some point, the brave souls that risk defection also risk the lives of family members that stay behind. This book is about several of defectors, their arduous journey and the difficulties involved. Fortunately for them, they seemed to be welcomed into South Korea. ]]>

This is a prequel that gives you Hamitch Abernathy's origin story. If you have read the Hunger Games series, there is not much surprise about the ending. If you haven't, you can easily read this one first. It's a standard Hunger Games formula but I think they are all fun. I'm not tired of them yet! ]]>
