I give it a 3.5 just for the very ending. This one was a slower burn than the other books I’ve read by Hutson but it still was good and a lot of the imagery harkens back to 80’s horror scenes in film.

The subject matter of Astral Travel was a good plot for a horror novel yet it lacked the atmosphere one would think would be associated with esoteric or paranormal horror. His book Relics had a lot more atmosphere which I immensely liked.

It’s still a good horror story with its scenic moments. I’ll be reading “Spawn or perhaps “Slugs next. ]]>

A 4 star book based solely on the ending. I was going to give it a 3.7 until those last few pages. A really quick and solid read. Shaun Huston is my new favorite horror writer at the moment. ]]>

3.7 stars. This is the predecessor to The Bighead. I feel like if I read Creekers first I might have given it 4 stars but because I read The Bighead first it gets 3.7

Solid, engaging and fun to see the material in this book is very similar to some of his later works. The quick Police Chief scene towards the end of the book felt a little too rushed and cliché as if it was a hurried scene in a movie but other than that gripe everything else was written pretty well. ]]>

Relics is the first book by Shaun Hutson that I’ve read, and oh boy it was a good one.

I give it 5 stars solely for how engaged I was throughout its entirety. This is a horror novel with ample gore and brutality with an interesting story that keeps you hooked the entire time.

Archeological occult findings
Sinister and depraved murders
Gore to fill puke buckets
And somewhat of a twist

Already buying more of his books. Gotta read more.
