Harrow has a true gift for immersive, cyclical storytelling, and this bizarre combination of dystopia and fairytale is exceptional. I don’t think there is a single day since I read The Six Deaths of the Saint, that I haven’t thought of it. This new work just confirmed that Harrow is at her best writing short stories.

Its so strange, seeing the present become past, and then mythin this way. Going around and around on the topic of change, of grief, of monsters, of love. Teaching us that there is nothing more dangerous, more important, than change.

Once again, I am obsessed.

K Ancrum always excells at writing gritty, small town drama, dubious psychological states, and deeply toxic relationships that fight their way into something you actually root for.
I never thought a possession could be that romantic, or that a romance where the two protagonists share a body could be pulled off. It feels unhinged and giddy and fierce, and these characters fought their way to a feasible future. One of Ancrum’s best by far. ]]>
