The story had a bit more depth than usual for this author. The protagonist regretted not speaking up against evil. The two main characters were better fleshed out than usual. There were fun shootouts with the hero wiping out the baddies. This book started well. It is quite a different setting and story compared to other books by this author, so that was a positive. It is set in Washington state, and feels more modern.

But after the exciting the start, the book was a let-down. The story meandered, and nothing much happened.
