I stopped at Chapter 11. I really tried to give this book a fair shot, but it just didn’t work for me. Deutsch has some depth (he rightly critiques things like relativism and instrumentalism, which I agree need to be challenged) but his proposed solutions often felt too simplistic. The chapter on the multiverse was where I really lost interest. He presents it almost as a given, even though it’s just one speculative interpretation and not something proven (which he himself has admitted). What frustrated me most is that he makes a point earlier on to distinguish between mathematical models and physical reality, but then slips into the same fallacy he warned against by claiming an ontological necessity to the multiverse based on the wavefunction probability quantum math. I wanted more clarity, more intellectual humility—but instead, it felt like an overly confident tour through ideas that didn’t always hold up. I couldn’t finish it.
