Wow. WOW. night myths � � before the body is the incredibly rare kind of poetry book that feels truly original, like nothing you've ever read before. It can be uncomfortable at first to enter such new terrain, where language is making meaning so differently than you're used to, but if you keep reading—especially if you read the poems to yourself out loud!—your brain will switch into this new, magical gear, and you will understand on a bodily level how alive the poems are, so full of pleasure and wisdom and surprise. I have been eagerly anticipating this debut for a long time, and it exceeds my wildest hopes. This book is symphonic, beguiling, haunting, and absolutely gorgeous. An incredible debut, full of poems that are moving, thought-provoking, and meticulously wrought. As a Southerner, I especially appreciate this book's reckonings and wrestlings with the South and belonging.
