The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
"I think this is one of those books that I'll read once and remember forever because of its emotional impact. I truly felt so understood and so well represented by Charlie's character. I cried four times while reading, thanks to these quotes:

1. "I don't know if you've ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That's why I'm trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning. If this gets any worse, I might have to go back to the doctor. It's getting that bad again." (p. 94)

2. "After I read the poem that compares the woman's hands to flowers and rain, I put the book down and went to the window. I stared at my reflection and the trees behind it for a long time. Not thinking anything. Not feeling anything. Not hearing the record. For hours. Something really is wrong with me. And I don't know what it is." (p. 137)

3. "The inside jokes weren't jokes anymore. They had become stories. Nobody brought up the bad names or the bad times. And nobody felt sad as long as we could postpone tomorrow with more nostalgia." (p. 198)

4. "So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them. I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have. Good and bad." (p. 211)

10/10 would recommend"

Ugh, another really cutie read.
The way this book affected me was interested to note, because I don't think the book has some fast pace action plot, it's really about longing and sadness and newness and pain all in one and yet I was still HOOKED. Like, I spent way too many nights up late reading past where I should have stopped to go to bed. The ending left me sad and happy at the same time.

4/5 ]]>
