I loved the FX show on Hulu, so I had to get the book. There’s so much to learn here, and it’s a great read. Very dense with new info on every page, but not in a bad way. Probably going to have to reflect on it a bit before I can review it further, but highly recommend. "I visited Northern Ireland at the start of this month. Had the opportunity to visit Belfast, Derry, and Dublin

I was searching for a book that gave me an in-depth look at The Troubles and the motivations behind the IRA, but I wasn’t expecting this to be a book that kept me engaged start to finish. One of the most harrowing and engrossing books I’ve ever read - the last third was a sprint to the finish but ended as expected: with incredible regret and heartbreak of a time that all Irish are doomed to carry with them.

And to top it off, I found out today that a FX TV show based on this work debuted three days before me finishing the book. Can’t wait to dive into that as well. "

I listened to this one (thank you Gerard Doyle) and it once again delivered the goods. Having already seen this book’s corresponding tv season, it was interesting to clock the minor changes. They weren’t too many, but I do think I didn’t love this as much bc of having seen the show’s season, and I think the way they capture it on the screen was a little more thrilling, which is why I’m going 4 out of 5. ]]>
