to start, this was originally labeled as a queer book.
it’s not! at all!!
there might be nods to a queer relationship if you can count toxic codependency between people who actually hate each other as queer, sure.

there is also no polycule.
no even love triangle?
don’t ask me what that cover is!
because there’s also four main characters!! two girls!! two boys!! and let me tell you, the boys have more chemistry with the second girl than the mc!

the mc who?
has no personality?
she’s a bad girl. she’s also a book nerd. she’d never lie. but she’s a huge liar.
don’t ask me what’s going on with that because I don’t think the author even knows with how much back and forth there was.

also vampires?
where?
sharp teeth?
where?

I don’t know, im mad I bought this book and was so excited for it.

the flowered blade was such a simple, light hearted and easy read!

it definitely felt personal, had that fanfic style to it, but as an indie author who is part of monster manor i feel like that’s half the charm!
it’s okay to have a book that is written for casual enjoyment, to sit back and simply exist alongside these characters.

this book has a great representation of a transmasc character and i appreciated that it wasn’t the main focus of the story nor was it consistently brought up, reinforcing the idea that trans people can simply exist without it being their entire identity.

if i told you my HR rep recommended this book would that be alarming?

I actually really enjoyed this!
(rare, i know. all i read is queer fiction)
however i definitely went into it thinking it was a romance story between elspeth and the nightmare�

that being said, i still loved this!
the pacing, the ambiance, the world building.

my favorite characters were the yew brothers.
i would love to learn more about elm.
and i am so intrigued by what will come next!

definitely recommend if you’re into gothic fantasy, tarot cards, and well kept secrets. ]]>
