"This was the only book in the series I actively disliked. For one thing there was never anything creepy about it, the whole book was about the kids doing a science project. Also there was no mystery, the whole idea of the series is the ambiguous nature of the adults being monsters or not being monsters but they never even tried to pretend this guy was a monster and at the end even said he wasn't one. It also is supposed to be a holiday special and it's supposed to be thanksgiving themed but besides there being turkeys near the swamp who are mentioned offhand once or twice this book had nothing to do with thanksgiving at all. Its like the story was just an excuse to lecture kids about the environment and they didn't even bother to make it an interesting story to go along with the lecture.

The other holiday specials also had puzzles and stuff at the end but this one didn't. So if it didn't have puzzles and it's not holiday themed then what was special about this book. There's nothing that sets it apart from the main series and wasn't even one of the better stories. "
