Love and loss, forgiveness, and second chances.
Honestly, I just don't know how I feel about this book. At one point, it's mh at another time I'm so into it. I think this would have been a great reading experience for me if it was an ebook/physical book.
I've totally enjoyed the 2 books ive read by this author. But this is a like.
I did enjoy some aspects of it, especially the end, but not the entire story as certain parts were utterly unbelievable. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect with the mmc.
That said, i was thrilled that Avalee was able to overcome her grief and, through her work in the little ghost town, she's able to reconnect with her ex (though i didnt like him) forgive and end up with a happy ending..
One of the highlights of the story is also the teenage boy and the dog for sure ]]>

𝟰⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a story about a psychologist called Chloe Davis. When she was twelve, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, her own father had confessed to the crimes and was put away for life, leaving Chloe and the rest of her family to grapple with the truth and try to move forward while dealing with the aftermath.
Now, twenty years later, as a psychologist in Baton Rouge, Chloe is getting ready for her wedding.
When a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, that terrifying summer comes crashing back.

This is, by far, one of the slowest thriller books I've read... very slooow paced. But then, the story was still interesting enough for me to push past all the slowness at the beginning until it picked up just a little bit halfway through and even more getting to the ending. So, near the end, I found myself pretty well gripped.

Her writing is very good, and it was an interesting setup. I liked the characters and the few twists.
The use of flick, Flicker, etc, was pretty annoying, lol. The part of her mom being able to communicate out of the blues was far-fetched.

The plot twist.
I had an inkling that the dad didn't do it, I must confess, i didn't really see that plot twist coming... at all.
It was a nice reveal. However, i wanted to know more about the "why" after the big reveal, but it was wrapped up pretty quickly, so the ending wasn't that satisfactory to me.

But through it all, it's a good book.

I think I'll be reading more books by this author.

4.25⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a story about a woman named Annie who is kidnapped by a stranger and held against her will for more than a year.

Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent captive in a remote mountain cabin―which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist―is the second narrative recounting the nightmare that follows her escape: the emotional scars she carries after her survival and her struggle to piece her shattered life back together, the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor, and the disturbing sense that things are far from over.

The story of Anna was nothing I've read before. What she endured caused a long-term rupture in her psyche it just didn't end when she escaped and was free. The emotional scars she carried after her survival were so palpable. But she was strong. I was just cheering her on.

This was a slow paced book, especially in the first half of the book. It took me days to get into it than usual, but once i did, it was Unputdownable.

The author did an amazing job tackling that extreme p$ycho element that few writers could manage.

There were a few twists that i liked, but the ending was unbelievable but still good enough.

For anyone who likes a story with emotional pull, he or she should read this.

Catch You Later by Jessica Strawser
"3.5 rounded up

Lark Nichols and Mikki Jensen are best friends who grew up together and now work together, on the night shift of a Travel Stop along the highway of their small Ohio town.

They once had big dreams of moving away but as they fast approach their 30th birthdays, they are starting to feel “stuck despite having always lived by their only TWO rules-Say YES, and Keep your eyes open for a ride out!

So when a stranger in a BMW stops in one night for coffee, and after a brief conversation, invites Nikki to tag along with him to a wedding in Florida, she concludes that it may be her first, and last opportunity to ever see the ocean, and with a breezy “Catch You Later she impulsively removes her apron and hops in-leaving an incredulous, and pregnant Lark behind.

Mikki never returns.

Fast forward eight years and Lark is finally moving forward. She lives with and helps care for, Mikki’s prickly grandmother Nini, while raising her daughter, Dove as a single mom. And, she has recently gotten engaged to wonderful guy, who has embraced his new “ready made family.

But, then the STRANGER who drove away with Mikki returns to the Travel Stop asking for her.

Nobody knows what to believe as the search is reopened.

The book alternates between Lark-NOW and Mikki-THEN which shows us what happened to Mikki from the time she climbed into the car.

I LOVED this ORIGINAL premise and was RIVETED to the pages-thinking this could be a 5 star read. But, at around the midway point of the story, the pace slowed and I guess I wanted MORE from the ending.

Although it’s not a new favorite book by the author, Jessica Strawser remains a favorite author of SUSPENSE for me, and I look forward to whatever she pens next!

A buddy read with DeAnn. Will it earn all the stars from her?

AVAILABLE NOW!

THANK YOU to Lake Union Publishing for the gifted ARC provided through NetGalley. As always, these are my candid thoughts!"

Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco by Trevor Hall
"I only discovered Princess Grace upon her death in 1982. At the time I was following and admiring Princess Diana when I heard that she would be attending the funeral of Princess Grace of Monaco. I remember watching the televised funeral just to get a glimpse of Diana. Then I started hearing Grace's story on the news. A former movie star turned Princess. I was hooked as to this 12 year old her story sounded like yet another, "fairytale." I remember eyeing this book in 1982 but I never bought it. As I began to collect other books on Grace, I always regretted not buying this one. This past Christmas my daughter surprised me with a copy of the book I had always wanted.

This is a beautiful coffee-table style book with hundreds of colour pictures. The book sums up her life story from her early days as Grace Kelly, the movie star, to her wedding in Monaco and becoming a Princess, then as Mother to her three children. It follows her royal life until her sudden death on September 14, 1982. Today marks 42 years since her passing.

Grace was the epitome of her name. A stunning beauty and full of class with a gentle demeanour. She was pure elegance. This is my favourite quote from the book.

"People say I'm the perfect Princess, but that's silly.""
