Although this one was cute and sweet, I absolutely loved it. I’ve read two books from the author before and enjoyed the style of writing and the sense of humor with the sprinkled angst, and this one is no different. It checked all the boxes. I always find it difficult to rate short stories.

It will grab you from the beginning, and you won’t want to put it down. I’d admit the concept of CUPID was unique and entertaining. I don’t believe I came across something similar, and I find it very refreshing; even now, while writing the review, I’m smiling as the whole thing was very entertaining.

August and Dawson are made for each other. August's poor, lonely soul wishes for someone he can tuck under his arms and spoil, while Dawson initially sounds mysterious. Still, once we meet him, he is funny and just as sweet as ever.

Overall, this one was lovely and a bit spicy, too, for a short story. I recommend picking it up, especially if you’re in a slump.

I'll admit that the cover made me request the ARC; it's gorgeous.
It's my first time reading about sex work, so I don't have much experience with what to expect. Overall, it was okay, so our couple (Ash, the sex worker) and (Jess, his assistant) it's low in angst (it's more from Ash's side) little drama with HEA and an epilogue.

There was a lot of tells and no show. The writing style kinda hindered my enjoyment as there was a lot of time jump like it's been weeks, or months as the characters got closer but never shown or told how they got close in those times. I guess this was what made it hard to connect with the couple. It's my first time reading from this author, so maybe that's why I'm not used to it. I will be checking other works from the author in the future.

If you enjoy this type of trope and storyline, give it a go. It's pretty short, too.

Round up 3⭐️ I have been really into fantasy lately, especially if it is mm romance. The moment it mentioned fairies, that was it. I had to request it. I've never read an MM romance where fairies were involved.

I'll go ahead and list what worked for me:
I appreciate the book's length for a fantasy. It was short, which fits me just fine. The story was cute, lighthearted, and no angst. The couple Burne & Gray were so adorable and sweet. The world-building was good.

What didn't work for me:

It took me a while to get into it as sometimes the writing and the situation were kinda heavy since the characters deal with mental health. At times, I had to reread the paragraph for the description to get a better picture, and sometimes it was confusing.

Overall, I've enjoyed the book, apart from what I have mentioned. Even though this is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone (coming from someone who is happily reading out of order). This is a new author to me, and I hope the author writes more mm romance in the future.

Haha thank you elena! I hope you love it and look forward to your review.

Overall I’ve enjoyed it. It was a good read, but the slow burn was sooo slow like no touching or lovey 😭😭😭 until like the last few chapters and still it wasn’t enough for me😭. ]]>

Round up 3.5. I love a good slow burn, I really do, but this was too slow for me. It took me a long time to get into the story. Mind you, it's 400-something pages, and their first kiss took place around the last few chapters. I don't remember what percentage, but it was past 60%. I remember when I picked this book, it was set as rivals to lovers, and I'm a sucker for this trope.

I'll start with what worked for me:

I loved how the author unfolded the story of their friendship and how they were rooting for each other, and the friendship blossomed slowly into something more; it felt organic. Opposite attracts was just too sweet to witness. Noah & Alex were adorable. The banter was cute, and the angst from Noah's story ticked the box for me. The text messaging was cute. The side characters were great.

What didn't work:

It was too slow for me. It took me a long time to get into it. The last few chapters were stretched and could be shorter. The romance and the kiss took a long while to get to. Also, I wished we had more sweet moments to read; I felt it wasn't enough.

These points are not criticism; I just want to point them out to future readers. The ending felt odd. It's more of HFN, so maybe we will hear about our boys in the next book in this series. Even though it's considered mature for adults, it has a YA feel to it. Just take the sex scenes out, and it's YA. Also, it's 3ed POV. Overall, I enjoyed the book. This was my first book from this author, and I look forward to reading more.

Defy the Future by Keira Andrews
"Thank you to GRR for this amazing arc!
I’m so sad to say goodbye to Adam and Parker, but so happy we got the end of their story. This one is an absolute whirlwind, and I’m going to keep it spoiler free.
Adam and Parker have found a peaceful life on Salvation Island. They’ve made amazing friends, they have food and shelter, and they’re safe from the infected. While they still wonder about those they’ve left behind, they’re happier than they thought they could ever be. When a new pack shows up on the island, Parker is wary and doesn’t trust them. Adam is trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but when it seems they might be up to something, Adam agrees that they must take action. Leaving the island is nothing like they imagined, and they are not ready for what they’ll find.
Adam and Parker are so sweet together, and they go through it (again!) in this one, but they get through it all together.
-Zombie apocalypse
-Werewolf MC
-Sweetness and steam
-Craxy twisty plot!"

Monsters within Men by T.J. Rose
"I’ll do whatever you want me to / Like Armageddon is gettin together with me and you (Want Me to Dom Fera).

Yeah, well that was something alright, and it can’t be denied that reading this was certainly an experience. I’m waffling, thinking about waffles or whatever, but the truth is that I really don't have any strong opinions about this book either which way. Mostly just bemused annoyances. Don’t get me wrong, I think that this was a well-written novel, but I took issue with the vibes in that they were a little off. Before I get to that, it’s important to know that the zombies are called “types (not even capitalized?) in this universe, but for the purpose of convenience, I’m just going to call them zombies. Anyway, I think my main thing was that the story was a little too militaristic for my tastes. All the main characters are in an elite squad tasked to quell the zombie threat and they are pretty much always portrayed as a force for good. If they don’t kill the zombie threat, who will, right? Yeah, well my favorite zombie movies are Train to Busan and 28 Days Later, both of which follow “average Joe types that are given the opportunity to become something more. Given the circumstances, not despite them. Instead, the characters in this book aren’t all that different on the last page as they are on the first. It doesn’t help that a huge chunk of the book is an extended training montage where Zeke learns to appreciate his new friends and his military training, despite the fact that he was forcefully conscripted into fighting an unwinnable battle (also, there’s a reason why training montages last one song at most, because otherwise they get really boring). The whole thing felt backwards at points. By the time any character starts questioning the suspicious nature of their assignments, there were only a couple chapters left! At that point we’re given barely enough time to ponder what this book’s message even is! Sorry, but that hardly counts as a satisfying conclusion in my opinion.

I think I’m probably being too critical, because I didn’t even dislike this. What little action we do get is done incredibly well, and the deaths aren’t lingered on, giving the book a terrible sense of dread seeped into every page. Maybe I’m just annoyed because I thought the plot was doing one thing when actually just ended up doing another. For example, I probably would have liked this a lot better if the plot was structured similarly to 10 Cloverfield Lane, a movie where a woman wakes up in an underground bunker with a creep played by John Goodman telling her that the world ended. The tension being that both the woman and the audience don’t really know whether or not the guy is telling the truth. Because most of this book takes place inside the military compound, without a zombie in sight, there could have been an element of paranoia and mystery to a story which is otherwise played completely straight. From page one, we know that the zombies are a threat, and everybody is on board with the mission. Which leads me to my other annoyance in that man, for a book about zombies, there are surprisingly few actual scenes with zombies in them. Yes, zombie stories are more about the human drama and that humans are the real monsters, yada yada yada. I KNOW! I know. But if you put a couple of cool dudes on a cover, where one of the guys has a big ass crossbow, I’m going to expect a more action-oriented book, rather than something more akin to a summer camp book, where the new kid has to learn how to fit in. I mean, yeah, there are certainly monsters within men, but like, most the evil acts in this book are done by the zombies, so I think a more apt title would be, Monsters Within Men But Damn Those Zombies Are Pretty Evil Too. Not as catchy, unfortunately.

“Try not to worry yourself. You seem fine to me.
“Apart from being a hopeless mess?
“Well, yes, that."

Heartthrob by Noah Steele
"That first chapter is how you get me excited for the
rest of the book and it only got better.

Fun and unique meet-cute
Swoony, ethereal imagery
Subtle sexy mannerisms
Ghost stories
Super hot circle jerk
Feeling the intensity of first love
I loved the best friend relationship in this. I hope all of the friends get their own books.
Cutest, sweetest, deep, sappy souls - they trade their clothes to feel close to each other when they can’t be together 🥺

Leo Yoshida - poet/writer, carries around his moleskine notebook, Japanese MC
Clark Lockwood - rich boy next door w/ a dash of manic pixie dream boy, photographer, always has his camera with him

”Nothing good could come from making a bet with a boy like Clark, but I wanted to. At the sight of him leaning in front of me under the street light, his hands next to mine on my bike’s handlebars, his bottom lip caught between his teeth, his eyes as impish as they were pleading, I might have said yes to anything. Yup. Me too, Leo.

Setting is really beautiful. Somewhere in Canada. Pine trees, waterfalls, ladybugs, butterflies, streams, castle libraries, astronomy towers, old college campus with its own romantic lore (I’m looking at you Nathaniel Honeywood.)"
