While I am a fan of both of the above, I think I prefer my fairy tale retellings to be more loosely based on the original. Because this was quite similar to the Anastasia film, I found myself a bit bored. I also wanted to feel a little more immersed into the pixie side of it. Sometimes I almost forgot they were faeries because it wasn’t quite descriptive enough for me, personally. But I know that’s how I often feel with novellas, since there’s just not quite enough time to depict a super vivid atmosphere.

But critiques aside, this was cozy and well written, and I think people who love to see their retellings pay proper homage to the original might really enjoy this! "
