Distant Images by Audrey Howard
"There was no protagonist, character building was very bad, unnecessary drama was there, from the very beginning i thought Beth would be the main character but her character went down real bad, then there was archie( a hopeless lover, who could do nothing good but to listen to his wife), i didn't understand how can beth marry archie when archie was adopted by her parents and was Beth's brother in some way, how can Milly marry hugh when he clearly was flirting with both the sisters, why didn't beth tell her the truth, this whole story started nowhere and ended nowhere, it made no sense ,simple waste of time. Reading this book was an ordeal, to say the least. How does it have such high reviews is a wonder.

Almost halfway through the book and nothing particularly worth reading has happened of yet. There was so many useless and unnecessary details I was lost for words.
Everything from the meals prepared by the cook, to the methods employed in doing so, to every single flowers, plants, bush and even soil tended by the gardeners, every single items of clothing was described in great details.
The book is a collection of informations about the house, gardens and every flowers, bushes, grass, the earth, skies, meals cooked in the kitchen, clothing, etc
Very little was said however for the most important part of the story itself.
What of Richard Latimer’s life as a soldier? His constant struggle between love and status and the reasons behind his cruel treatment of Celie Marlow? Each time he came back to her, no explanation was offered, no conversation on the matter was shown in the book. What a silly author!
Richard Latimer came in and out of Celie Marlow’s life, ignored her for years at a time then came back out of the blue with no explanation whatsoever. Instead the author thought it best to write every oh! so very exciting details on the scrubbing of pots and pans. How very cleaver!
I am even more concerned of any individual who read this book and rated it above 2 stars? Did y’all got paid or something?

I wouldn’t recommend for i think the book is more frustrating than it is enjoyable. ]]>

Resurrect by Astrid Jane Ray
"WTF did I just read? Aside from the white washing of the history of his abuse of his wife, the ‘hero and heroine lacked any personality. I could put down the heroine’s lack of personality down to being a house slave for 5 years and the hero’s due to being an abusive psychopath but that just let’s the author off the hook for formulaic, wooden writing.

The HEA is not believable, he will be slapping her around and controlling her and his dayghter their hole lives."

I agree the h was a complete doormat and she wasn’t very smart but only because she forgave the H way to readily. He did nothing to deserve her forgiveness. Did we read the same book?
He r*ped, slapped, beat her to the point of scarring, kept her away from her little sister while he had the privilege of seeing her. She almost killed herself because of everything.
He never grovelled? All he did was apologize a few times
“I don’t know what came over me. Do you forgive me after slapping her senseless and she forgave him every single time. ]]>

How does this book have such high reviews is beyond me. The genre is romance. Where is the romance? I am urging authors to go learn what that word actually mean.
I wish good reads had an option for less than one star. That is how much I would rate this book

*SPOILER ALERT*

First, the heroine (Olivia) who was described as naïve throughout the book was just to put it simply, plain dumb and stupid. An actual retard. I tried to like her, I really did but I just couldn’t. She had no functioning brain cells. It’s was as if her brain was barely in use and even then I am being nice.
She got r*ped, slapped, beaten to the point of scarring, got separated from her little sister for 5 years by the H (who got to spend time with said little sister while she lived in agony), he didn’t even tell her when her father passed away. And she just forgave him in the end as if nothing happened. I was baffled. Do people like that actually exist? Olivia even forgave her stepmother, who sold her when she was 17.
The Hero (Alessandro) got into an accident then as a result looses his memory temporarily. He does a 180 from violent, brutal and abusive husband into Prince Charming in shining armour overnight.
The twist was so sudden I was shocked. So unbelievably unrealistic, in insight that should’ve been my cue to leave but hey, stubbornness got the best of me, as per usual.
The H r*ped the h so many times but it’s never got addressed. He also repeatedly physically and emotionally abused her and he never really grovel for that? Only a few sorries here and there and that’s it. ]]>

Read this a few days ago and I wished I hadn’t. The main female character’s “naïvety bordered to stupidity. In the summary it is written and I quote “Bryony cannot afford to compromise her pride and independence and I must ask. What pride? What independence? For she had none!
Nothing Bryony had done ressembles pride or independence quite the contrary in fact.
She dreamed of a life of leisure and luxury but without having to work for it. Which meant she had to rely exclusively on the “benevolence of men. And I must admit I am impressed at her capacity to trust men time and time again after being lied to, manipulated, abandoned, betrayed, blackmailed and almost raped on multiple occasions by said men.
I wish she would have made something of herself without having to throw her body into the bargain. That was sad and upsetting honestly. She didn’t deserve to be victimized that way.
Every single ones of her plans consisted of her bargaining with a man in exchange for sex or favours. She never took the time to think about the consequences of her actions. How it would affect her or the people around her. As soon as she was told she would have what she wanted, nothing else mattered.
Bryony often came off as self centered and frankly incredibly foolish.
Of course she always ended hurt then tossed aside by these men and you would think she had learn something. But no! Instead she will only jump into the next man and make a new bargain. It was quite frustrating to see her make the same mistake over and over.
The fact it had a relatively happy ending didn’t save the book for me. ]]>
