I didn't even realize this was a vampire book until about 2/3 of the way through. Having said that, it's a pretty decent read for a vampire book, which I usually find boring. ]]>

This is a very good book. Really digs deep into the 'monster' that was Heinrich Himmler. He was a monster. But I put it in quotes because that's all you hear about him. This book takes you deeper into his character in a way I never heard before. Essentially he was a total coward. Weirdly, unlike many of the nazi hierarchy I also don't think he was a psychopath based on this book. He was a total idealist and totally subservient to authority. So subservient in fact that even at the end of 1945 when Germany was losing completely, he refused to betray Hitler. Ironic that Hitler ended up calling him a traitor in his final memorandum, leaving the leadership of the Third Reich to Admiral Donitz.

Himmler is the man the Germans blamed for the Holocaust, and while no one man - least of all a quivering coward like Himmler - could be responsible for all that horror, he did sign all the documents leading the Jews to their deaths, he ordered it, he took responsibility.

Another reason I say he wasn't a psychopath, is that he suffered terribly every day from headaches and stomach pains, obviously brought on by his decisions to send people to death. Well, we can't be totally sure that's the cause of it, but based on everything else I read about him in this book there is a high likely correlation.

The fact that Himmler ends up dying like a quivering dog in a corner, under Allied captivity (via a cynade capsule) is so pathetically in keeping with this character. There is very little to recommend Himmler as a human being. The best one could say is he was a highly organized company man. That's a pretty low bar for human achievement. A man like this should never be in power, anywhere, ever. ]]>

Enjoyable book with many insights. I was let down only by the very end of the book when the author suggests that a sizable group of people in the US, who want a theocracy, is one of the grave threats of our time. Yea, no. The truth threat in this country are the authoritarian left woke elite. Everyone can see it clearly now if they use their brains. ]]>

Very well-researched and very large. Full of details of all kinds of shady shit throughout the last 100 years of US history touching on the Clintons but mainly focused on Republican politicans for some reason. I sense a bias there. At any rate, this book is too chock full of detail for me to find the narrative interesting. If anything it's confusing and I was bored by the whole thing. Skimmed a large part of it. Not looking forward to part 2 which I also bought. Again, it's incredibly well-researched and there is a lot of solid seeming evidence for a lot of dirty laundry, I just found it oddly boring. ]]>
