Kiss the Villain by Rina Kent
"Me reading this book knowing she fumbled hard with M/M:

Bro, what is Miss Kent doing?? Like, I know I don’t rate her books that high, but I really enjoy reading them even if they are straight-up dumpster fires. But this one?? I was annoyed as fuck. First of all, I genuinely don’t know why this book had to be this long, considering nothing much of substance happened in this book. Like, honestly!! Even in her Insta Q&A, she said she thought of giving Gareth and Kayden a novella, and tbh, these bitches only deserved a short story (as Buket said) because all they did was act like bunnies for most of the book. Lance Orion and Darcy Vega would be so ashamed of Gareth and Kayden for not serving the trope student x professor.

The writing style was so horrendous 😭. It’s like with each new book, she just stoops down to a lower level because the dialogue made me cringe so much. The messages between the characters were so meh, and there’s no way two grown-ass men talk like that. I did find her trashy writing enjoyable in her past books, but in this one, it was just so boring. Like, I was skimming the fuck out of this book because I honestly wasn’t getting anything out of this. Is Rina losing her charm? Her releasing three books a year certainly doesn’t help. Maybe she should just take some time to sit back and reflect on her writing and see where she can improve because the writing in this book was atrocious. It gave me ✨nothing

Gareth—tbh, I was enjoying his POV at the start. I was enjoying how narcissistic he was and how self-absorbed and full of himself he was. He really fit into the "rich spoiled kids thinking they’re something" group, but that actually got too much. He annoyed me so much, like I cannot with this bitch because if he wanted to praise himself—that’s fine, do it—but him using weird-ass metaphors made the whole book so nauseating. And honestly, I expected Gareth to be better. Him turning out to be a rapist 🌚 wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card, and I don’t know Rina Kent’s obsession with rape and rapists and romanticizing it.

Kayden—he was just a man??? Like, I actually don’t know how to describe him because he had the personality of a cardboard. All he wanted to do was rape and shred Gareth’s clothes and fuck him to oblivion. Him being part of an influential family? Couldn't give two shits. He tried so hard to be "strong, bad, and evil" by sending death threats, rape threats, raping Gareth, and drugging each other. So, like, how am I supposed to like such one-dimensional characters with weird-ass fetishes? It’s just getting repetitive and boring now.

The romance—Idek if it should be called that anymore. Bro, their whole relationship is based on rape. Like, the fact that Kayden said this:

"I don't believe I would've ever discovered that part of myself if it weren't for those encounters, so a part of me is grateful. The other part would still stab you, though."

To the encounters where he raped Gareth?? It was just so fucked up. But it's not even that—okay, so Kayden raped Gareth three times, and his excuses were that the first two times were "deserved" because Gareth was coming with the intention of raping him, and the third time's reason by Kayden was because Gareth looked "beautiful." So you just raped him cuz he looked beautiful?? Their whole relationship was them trying to rape each other, drug each other, and just, in general, fuck each other to get back at the other person, but somehow it turned into love. But they were still going on saying that "no, we're not bi/gay." Like, okay, bitch, then what the fuck were you doing for the past 70% of the book? I hate when that trope is played. Like, it's already so fucked up cuz they get their bi-awakening from raping and being raped, and then somehow, there’s this layer of lust that turns into love, only for them to say that and be in denial.

I also don't understand why she makes all the subs in her books so weak. Like, Gareth reminded me so much of the female characters because they would also be all bark and no bite. They would try to get back at them, but I literally kid you not, they would end up getting fucked as the punishment. It was just absolutely horrendous. Also, not Kayden calling Gareth’s ass "pussy"—that felt very weird to read, tbh 😭. Oh, and the way Kayden was mad at Gareth for coming with the intent of raping him (who Gareth thought was Yulian) and he hated that for obvious reasons, and also because Kayden's wife was gang-raped, but what did Kayden do? He raped Gareth three times.

The plot—there was none. Even if there was, it was recycled and boring.

Overall, I'm just ending this review here despite having to say more cuz I got tired and I my hater level is going down but yeah don't read this shit.
___
What I said below but the statement "Kayden is worse than Killian" is a jumpscare 😭
___
You know its an RK book when you're super excited for it but have the lowest expectations 🤣"

Kiss the Villain by Rina Kent
"HAHAHHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

2⭐️
Again, I'm warning ahead. Please prepare popcorn, a drink, and spare me 20 mins. Unlike goF, I have mixed feelings about this book. So, due to popular demand, the rant IS HERE. NOW. After days of forcing myself not to dnf this. Your patience is deeply appreciated.
Congratulations, Rina Kent, you have done it again👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

There's two stars instead of one (zero)this time NOT because America's Next Top Model (Season 21, Episode 5), but because I actually did smtg I wasn't able to do during my trau-fucking-matic (does this sound familiar???) journey (or should I do, jour-fucking-ney LMAOOOO) in God of Fury. I laughed.

Because of how bad it was.

In the first half of the book, (the writing, literature), was shit. I'm not even going to explain abt this. You know. If you've read my review in God of Fury, you'd know. I pulled an all-nighter (accidentally) because I wanted to hate-read a few pages in peace. Turns out, I almost woke my dear mama up because I was laughing too loud in my-fucking-room @ 5am in the morning. 😭😭😭
Since her work alrdy disappointed me once, I nv rly expected any life changing Picasso art in this book. I went in disappointed, I came out confused.

Ooookay anyway I'll divide my review into a few sections to let you understand better (me too. for me to understand this better. I still don't understand how I feel). I'll also be shortening my words more than usual, Kayden fys.

⚠️I do not know if I included any spoilers. (tried my best not to).

✎﹏ As usual, I'll start with ONE good scene from the book; (now that I reread this; meh).
“I know what Instagram is, and I don’t use social media.
“Hmm. Sus af.
“CDz.
“W󲹳?
“Full words.
“Suspicious as fuck, Professor.
“LԲܲ.
“You’re the one who wanted full words. He lifts his shoulder in a small shrug and eats more strawberries, one after the other, like a ravenous kid.

✎﹏ Let's continue with the characters:

💌Gareth Carson
1. the bad:
-so self obsessed. like, so, so self obsessed. If I get 10 cents for every time I want to just cut his speech (about himself) short, I'd be a billionaire rn.
They want to do some late afternoon group study in a local coffee shop, and I usually join them just to incapacitate them and make them feel like they can never be at my level. Without even saying anything. They still like my company, though, which isn’t a surprise—I’m the most interesting person I know.
OHH MY GODD SHUT UPPP.

2. (can't believe I'm even saying this but), the good:
BRANDON KING. LEARN.
He literally flipped my world upside down. Took everything I thought I knew about myself and smashed it into a million unrecognizable pieces. But I can’t say that. I’m still jittery and in pain. I’m also terrified that if I lay my heart on the table, he won’t take it. And I’ll be left picking up the pieces all over again. So I bite my tongue, keeping the words buried where they can’t hurt me.
(below is Kayden's pov btw)
“I won’t die. I brush my lips against his forehead, and he goes still, a faint shiver rippling through his body. I step back, meeting his gaze. “You didn’t allow me to, remember? “You better not, he murmurs, his hand sliding up to wrap around my throat. His chin quivers, his grip firm but hesitant. “I didn’t forgive you yet.
What I like abt this was that it literally took SO LONG and SO MUCH for Gareth to forgive Kayden. (Not bc of the rape. They never acknowledged it. This is Rina Kent. Welcome to her world.)

💌Kayden Lockwood
1. the bad: (you'll hate this man so much you don't even feel like reading "the good" after this, but please do. It took hours for me to write this review.🙏)

He admitted to raping Gareth multiple times.

"But--"
NO. NO BUTS.
RAPE IS RAPE, BABE. We write and read books to widen our perspective on stuff. THIS is not something you want to UNDERSTAND. THERE IS NOTHING TO UNDERSTAND.
“You’re surprisingly lean but nicely toned.
"Stop touching me. You’re disgusting.
“Look at that. We’re birds of a feather."
“Fuck you.
“Is that your way of asking for my help?
"Don’t touch me."
Harrod always said I reminded him of himself. He was wrong. I’d never be the disgusting abuser he was.
No babe, you're worse.😄👍
“You should be thanking your lucky stars that I want you, little monster.
He should've done the opposite, actually.
-Man why you calling Gareth the rapist all the time as if you ain't one.
-Idk something else that irked me was that he can say disgusting shit to Gareth, but when G says smtg back he threatens him?? like??

2. the good:
NICKOLAS. LEARN.
-this bitch kept apologising
-he took a bullet for Gareth
-he kept apologising
-he kept apologising
(he's not good obv, nowhere near that. But I think we all agree that he's better than fucking Sokolov. He apologised for chapters x10 unlike that ass.) (Again, not bc of the rape).

💌Cassandra (my queen, my queen.)
She was such an important aspect to their story, to Kayden's specifically, but she decided to cut her off and make both the characters hate her (for absolutely no reason)???
God, I missed him. And I need him. And I want to erase fucking Cassandra from him. I don’t care if that seems deranged, but I want her gone. Completely.
I'm sorry but what did this woman ever do to you? You do realise she can't "take him" from you right?😃?
"I never loved Cassandra, he says out of the blue, the rough timbre of his voice vibrating against my back, sending shivers down my spine. “I liked her as a friend, but it was never love. “H-how do you know for sure? I whisper, my voice cracking under the weight of his words. “Because you’re the one who ripped my heart open and made yourself a place inside, Gareth. You’re the one who makes me irrationally mad and hurt because a dead teenager had your heart before me, and I can never be pure enough to compete.

“More than her? I strain, my chest burning. “More than anyone else?"
Cassandra's stronger than me girl cus if my man said that, I'll come back and haunt him and his new boyfriend mfk.

✎﹏ Now, on to the writing:
1. the good: (I cringe as I write this sentence. yikes.)
A real note I typed out while reading; "with THIS writing, I bet she rereads her chapter 5 everyday and congratulates herself on having written an actual page that's readable."

2. the bad:
╰☆☆I'll be inserting real lines/sentences from the book!
‼️⚠️Read at your own risk.⚠️‼️
💌ձ. Terrible.
I slam a hand to his face and push it away.
“Fuck off, asshole.
“Wow. Were you always this petty?
“Damn straight. I’m the petty king, so shut the fuck up, Kill.
Gareth Carson has the looks of a prince and the personality of a devil.*
A man who’ll paint the world in bright colors for his victims and then splash it all in red.
Which is why he’s my red now.
I’m the devil who’ll bring another devil to his fucking knees.
Literally.
Figuratively.**
*(ooooo i am so scared😱😱)
**WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS SUFFOCATING.
Continuing on...

maybe I'm a grammar freak but this doesn't sound fucking correct bb
"You’re always buzzing around my head like an annoying fucking fly, Professor. Buzzing and buzzing, and fucking buzzing"
LEAVE THE DAMN FLY ALONE.🪰🪰🪰

-16% in and already two rape scenes. TWO. (there were in total three.)
I mean, seriously? I honestly felt so uncomfortable and disturbed during and after the back-to-back rape scenes, it was incredibly in depth and disturbing for no reason. I get it. Dark romance. yadda yadda. But um.? How does she know so much abt ..?

3. the "i don't know what to say":

💌I KNOW HE HAS A SNAKE TATTOO. HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO MENTION IT.
💌“Show some respect for your field of study and articulate your words fully. Don’t lower yourself to the brainless habits of your peers. based on her way of writing, im very sure she googled "synonym for Respect what you study and talk in full. Don't talk silly like other ppl."
then copy & pasted it in the book.

✎﹏ misogyny
I actually put this into Kayden's & the bad writing section, but eventually I came to realise that this must have its own. Let me put this into words; Every one of RK's female characters are 6/6.
1. petite 2. soft 3. COOKS. (that scene where they all gather and the only ppl who prepared the food were Gareth's mom and Glyn. Idk why but it irked me soo much) 4. "Idk how to fight 🥹🥹" 5. Dumb 6. "Whores."
"Lose the girl." Hot breaths skim my skin, and my fingers pause on the buttons. "Lose all girls."
I don't look at him as I release an annoyed breath. "Why the fuck would I do that?"
"I don't like seeing any of their claws on you."
"Jealous or something?"
"Territorial"* He wraps his arms around me from behind, sliding his large hands up and down my chest, then tightens his arms around me in a possessive grip. "They're sullying my beautiful toy with their rancid breaths and cheap presence."

*wow you're so alpha man-like awooo 🐺🐺
She’s got a thing for that girl who’s always clinging to you and begging for your attention like a low-rent whore. It’s a pity she’s crushing over a dumb girl.

...what'd I say?
(the thing is, every single shit she says abt women in the book is liks that,🙃 so you cannot convince me that she stands for feminism. LOL.)

✎﹏ The plot:
It was good. Imo. Felt shit, man. (as in sad. surprising, ik). Combined with the improved writing in the second half of the book (at least I wasn't cringeing every 2 sentences like I did in Legacy of Gods) I almost wanted to give this book 3 stars (bc I keep my promises, but also bc the writing became decent). Alas it is not in me to give a book romanticising rape more than 2 stars.
Sorry not sorry.
*for context; i promised that any book's writing style that's mid will automatically get a 3⭐️ frm me

✎﹏ My (CORRECT) opinions:
💌RK has a fetish on (WHITE) gay men
-I mean, honestly, so sorry for the late realisation. BUT. All her characters ARE THE SAME. Gareth's side of the family; 3 couples are gay. All men. All white. (???)
💌idk how yall hate on penelope douglas's books and then gush over this author like she's a fucking saint
💌im convinced RK is a man camouflaging as a woman, writing out every rapist's evil fantasy. Cus why are all her couples falling in love with their rapists??

Check out my God of Fury rant here💗

p.s. 1. America's Next Top Model (Season 21, Episode 5); for context, in that ep the famous quote "I cant give you a zero, so I'll give you, a one." was born
2. Everybody thank @lena for forcing me to write this review.
3. RK supporters, I will not bother replying to you. Please don't waste your time attacking me. Xoxo."
