Immortal Origins by Taryn Knightly
"Rating: 3.5
This was my first ever beta read and I was surprised by how good this book was. I’ve read a LOT of fantasy so don’t let my rating discourage you (I am picky). With that being said I’ll break down my review with some critiques and then what I loved (spoiler free of course).

What could’ve been better:
🔴 The pacing sometimes felt slightly off, with awkward time jumps that made me feel a slight disconnect from the characters and storyline.
🔴 Character development could’ve been better (although this didn’t bother me too much and I have high hopes that the characters will continue to evolve with the story.)
🔴 I would’ve like to see more interactions between all the characters in general so their relationships felt more natural.

What I loved:
The magic system is interesting and was explained well. We have gods and dragons and much more.
The imagery is beautiful and really allowed me to stay involved in the story.
The characters themselves were enjoyable with a promising fiery FMC (who didn’t come off as annoying!!!) and broody MMC.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was an easy and fun read that has a lot of promise.
I am excited to see where this story goes!"

Immortal Origins by Taryn Knightly
"I enjoyed this book. I love the map and classification description at the beginning. Loved the world building. I enjoy enemies to lovers but wish there had been more details in progress of their relationship and more banter. It felt like the MMC went from indifference to he would burn the world to protect her and any who would harm her. Overall this book left me with so many questions and wanting more. I am look forward to the second book.

Thank you Taryn and Siren books for letting me be an ARC reader."

bookshelves: read-audiobook
I wanted to read this book because I absolutely adore the video game and the show, and wanted to get more insight into the story. I bought the physical set, but had trouble getting into it, so I decided to listen via audiobook.
As I was listening, I found that it was the show to a T. No extra details, no inner monologue, no Geralt lore, really (at least nothing I didn’t already know). I guess I just had higher expectations. I was hoping for some more thoughts/personality from the main character, but I felt the book was majority conversations. Also rarely any deep description of the setting.
I also didn’t love the sexism throughout, and the description of minor females the book would’ve been just fine without those two factors.

Overall, I enjoyed it because I felt like I was re-watching the show, but didn’t like that I didn’t gain much from reading. Hopefully the rest of the books add a little more depth. ]]>
