Note to self: don’t choose a book randomly again. I was looking for something light for my cardio workouts, and the this one seemed like a good option. But it wasn’t. It was just boring. High school love dramas definitely are not for me. ]]>

I'm... confused. On the one hand, I loved Frau Totenkinder/Bellflower kicking ass and going up against Mr. Dark duel style, but on the other hand, it all just seemed so... rushed, especially the end that wasn't really an end. Also, the final short stories... yeah, I wasn't a big fan of those last time, and I still feel the same.
The one small bright spot was learning a bit more about Rose Red, where she came from and what made her the bitter and vengeful person she was in the beginning of these series, and then seeing her come back from her "coma" and reclaim her role from the would-be usurpers.
I still don't know where this story is going, but I do hope it gets better in the next volume. Please?

Reread 2025: I actually liked it better this time, though the mains fight dragging on is a bit underwhelming. Skipping the short stories at the end is a must, they don't bring much to the story. ]]>

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
"A kind of 21st century Nancy Drew, investigating a disappearance and murder in an english village, where a boy of color was found guilty 5 years ago.

My opinions about it are, as usual, quite mixed. On the good side it is very readable, and it is a lot of fun to read about how to investigate using social media. On the other hand the plot is all over the place and unlikely (view spoiler), and worse, unlikely in how 21st century people (who are our heroine) react to technology which absolutely contrasts with the interesting bits of the book, like nobody has heard of cloud hosting of files (but that was just an example, apparently our heroine neither, she apparently MAILS stuff to herself as backups. Never heard of downloading photos from phones at full size either) or deleted photos on phones not being immediately deleted yet (apparently this is rare knowledge only Pippa has).

Somehow my enjoyment of a mystery novel depends on the plot and how credible the plot and motivations is, so this did not quite work for me. About Pippa herself and Ravi and her friends, meh. I wish we had seen more of what happens with (view spoiler)."

I tried, I really did, but this one just didn't hit the spot, which explains how long it took me to read it. I can't pinpoint what it was that didn't agree with me, though. The general lack of interest in all the characters? How it seemed so far fetched? I don't know. Here's hoping the next murder-mystery I choose is better. ]]>

Ah, now that's more like it. Welcome back "Fables", after that terrible crossover!
And hurray for Bufkin, the amazing monkey, that wins the battle, even if the war is still going.
But the best part truly was the witches' council... I quite like Ozma, that sneaky little witch, but I have a feeling Frau Totenkinder will still return to help kick some Dark ass. :D

Reread 2o25: Who knew Bufkin would be such a cool character. ]]>

"Lots of pets involved in this case, Detective Khoury".
Not just pets, but a lot of people, and a lot of points of view, and a lot of pages. And a whole lot (really!) of endings. It's a nice family drama, and Liane Moriarty's wit is always present, but the book was way too long for the story, making it a bit boring. The 300 endings were especially annoying, I actually had to recheck the table of contents to see if it really was the last chapter, because it seemed unending at some point. Did we really need the [spoilers removed] twist? No, we did not! ]]>

"A família é um ponto de partida, não uma sentença."

Um romance simpático sobre a relação entre pais e filhos ao longo das décadas, numa época muito conturbada da história Alemanha. A ligação a Portugal (que na verdade dá o mote ao romance) é um extra interessante. ]]>
