I'm usually not a fan of time travel novels, but Troyansky does it well.
We open with the head of a new self-sufficient cruise line receiving a warning from the future that a new Great Flood is coming and that his ships better be out to sea by a certain date because they will be one of the few remaining vestiges of human civilization.
Then we meet our protagonist, Grace Lirit, born in Atlantis generations after the flood. In this new society, magic is real and Grace is studying to use her supernatural skills to conduct archeological studies of the pre-flood world. But just as her pendulum prognostication leads to one of the most exciting discoveries since the flood, Grace is whisked back in time to Victorian London.
There, she must navigate strict social norms and figure out how to get back to her own when and where, all while making note of as much information as she can to further future archeological work. ]]>
