Level One, Forever?

Max has dreamed of becoming a [Baker] for years. His eighteenth birthday has passed and Choosing Day arrives the day when the he, and all the other new adults in his village, receive their Skill from the gods; but when he touches the Skill Crystal his dream shatters.

This LitRPG novel has the typical game-like mechanics of the genre, but there are no distinctly defined character classes; instead every person receives one, or rarely two, Skills which determine the broad path of their lives. Some Skills are as much curse as they are blessing. Acquiring additional skills is possible, but a person must be level twenty, or higher, to do so. Rarer than a person receiving two skills is a person receiving no skill. Such unfortunate individuals are taken away by the Adventurers Guild, and never seen again.

You can take a guess at what Max gets at his choosing, but you would likely be wrong.

The novel has good characters, pacing, and development of the plot. I highly recommend it for those who like the LitRPG genre. Those who like Fantasy, but care less for LitRPG, can easily ignore the Status Sheets and Statistics checks without losing the salient points of the plot. ]]>

An Excellent Read (with Some Annoying Errors)

This is an excellent example of the LitRPG genre in terms of plot, pacing, character development, and world building, but the number of misused (or completely missing) prepositions and occasionally convoluted phrasing used caused me no small amount of annoyance. I would guess that I identified no fewer than four hundred such problems in this novel’s text.

I hope the author does a re-edit to correct these flaws soon, as the story and characters are really quite engaging, but the textual errors really reduced my reading enjoyment as I felt compelled to note each one with what was my best guess as to what the author intended to say.

Personal Note to the author: I'm posting my review and notes on Good Reads, if you are interested in investigating my guesses as to what you intended. ]]>

Zeke Ticks Off the World!

Who knew saving the world would make everyone, and I mean everyone who survived the apocalypse, angry at Zeke? Certainly not Zeke; if he had known he might just have let it go to hell.

This is the end of the Much Lord trilogy, but I doubt it is the end of Zeke's and Raven's adventures.

This entire trilogy has been a great read. I recommend it to all readers who like the Fantasy genre; especially if the like the LitRPG sub-genre. ]]>

Ezekiel Continues Narrating His Story to Muriel.

Sometimes series can be hit and mis from one volume to the next. That is not the case (at least so far) with this series. Zeke makes new allies (sometimes literally!) and reunites with some old allies in his quest for strength, knowledge, and power. He must grow quickly; as the Church of Olattee is his destruction.

This series continues to be an excellent read for this who enjoy the LitRPG genre; and even for those who like Fantasy, but don't care for LitRPG, because the Game stats and mechanics are far from central to the plot and may be merely glanced over to get to the meat of the story. ]]>
