"TW: alcoholism; death of a parent

I sadly did not enjoy this book as much as the first two I read by this author. Firstly, this felt like two separate stories. The first part is mainly flashbacks to the main characters childhoods and crappy parenting situations. The second part is the actual party and has us following way too many characters to keep track of in such a short time. That made it difficult for me to attach to any of the characters and I think they will be largely forgettable. I would have preferred if more of the book was about the party based on the synopsis and then we would have had more time to flesh out all those little stories and interactions. Lastly, the ending wrapped up way too quickly and perfectly.

I typically enjoy this author’s flawed characters, but she tried to cram too many characters and stories into this one which resulted in a mess for me. "
