It's finally over!

Let's see if I can write a quick review summing up all my thoughts before going to work.

When I first started this book, I was very excited. I had never watched the show and i thought this would be my next long series after finishing Robin Hobb earlier this year. Honestly, i was disappointed in this.

This book was a chore to read sometimes. I never had the urge to pick it up. I only did because i wanted to finish it, not because i was enjoying it or was excited to see what was going to happen.

GRRM's writing was not good. It was so boring and slow most of the time, i fell asleep while reading. Some days I could only read a couple of pages before giving up. It was that bad.

The story and the world building are interesting but it took us such a long time to get to the point, I began losing interest.

The characters were fine, but there were too many of them! It was so confusing, most of the time I wouldn't remember the characters just because they were so many. None of them made an impact imo. I was not attached to any of the characters. The only character I "really" liked was Eddard Stark [spoilers removed]

The women were plot devices to further the arcs of men. Obviously this was written by a man 🙄 and it shows. The last 25% had sexual content that was very unnecessary. Most of the time women are being called "whores" or "sluts" 😒 I understand this is set in a medieval world, but still. It rubbed me off the wrong way.

Danaerys was okay. I don't understand her love for Khal Drogo. I'm going to blame it on her being a 14 year old girl who doesn't really undestand what love is. [spoilers removed] I'm hoping for more development in future books.

I feel like GRRM wrote so many characters he didn't make room for any of them to shine on the page. Most of them were bland and needed more work.

None of the "twists" really shocked me but maybe in the future, they will.

Will i continue this series? I will probably read book 2 because book 1 is not an enough indicator. I feel like this could improve in later books. But i'm going to need a long break before jumping into book 2 because this book put me in a reading slump.
