3.5 stars

Dolores dela Cruz is fascinated by true crime and serial killers. She fantasizes about spotting a real one in the wild. When she meets the new temp at work, Dolores is convinced he is a serial killer. Jake Ripper always flies under the radar. He likes to observe people and discover their dark secrets. He is intrigued by Dolores and her aloof persona. They start their own game of cat and mouse, which will end either in murder or HEA.

It took me a while to get into the book. The first half was a little slow. It wasn't easy to figure out what was going on at first. Innuendos and characters saying things that didn't mean what you'd think they meant made the story confusing. The second half was much more entertaining, and many parts made me laugh out loud. In the second half, we met some funny and quirky secondary characters who made the story more appealing. I can't say who these characters are because it would be spoilery.

I would give the first half three stars and the second half four stars. I am also not a true crime aficionado, so maybe that's why I wasn't completely enamored with the book. Overall, Serial Killer Games is a solid debut, a unique rom-com with much appeal.

Kate & Frida is a love letter to books, food, and female friendships. It's written entirely in letters between two young women. Kate Fair is a bookseller and an inspiring writer living in Seattle, and Frida Rodriguez is an inspiring war journalist living in Paris. They develop a friendship while corresponding and exchanging books. In their letters, Kate and Frida share secrets, hopes, and insecurities. They talk about politics and world events. They share their favorite books and food. Most importantly, Kate and Frida help each other navigate personal and professional challenges.

This book surprised me in the best way. It's beautifully written, emotional, and heart-warming. I loved the themes explored in the book, and I adored Kate and Frida's blossoming friendship. As a francophile, I loved the Paris setting. And, of course, I cannot resist a book about books. I am so glad I decided to read Kate & Frida.
