This book was just ok for me but I did really appreciate the “Trojan horse style of education wrapped in narrative. I learnt a lot about Palestinian history through the eyes of a child then a young man. While this book is classified as non-fiction (biography), it is written in a storytelling style, which is mainly what didn’t work for me. I also didn’t love the voice the audiobook narrator did for children in the book. 3.5 stars ]]>

bookshelves: australian, biography
This was an absolute tome of a book but I’m pleased to say that I got along with the writing in this book much better than I did with Alexis Wright’s Praiseworthy last year! Tracker Tilmouth was clearly a complex character - as a member of the stolen generation he was definitely traumatised, he was undoubtedly neurodivergent in some way, and he definitely put some people off, but he was also a tireless fighter, a larrikin, charismatic, fearlessly outspoken, and someone who cared deeply about getting the best deal possible for Aboriginal people. ]]>

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
"I struggled with this one. It felt too long and it took a while to get to know the characters because there was so many of them and all with challenging names, ranks and relationships. To be honest, I wish I’d quit after 100 pages. "
