This is the nerdiest book I have ever read. That isn't good or bad, lol, it just is. I found the main character kind of annoying and unbelievable. His 80s knowledge is obscene, and his video game aptitude is ridiculous. A perfect PacMan score, really? The characters were kind of flat. I did enjoy the OASIS/2040s world building. That was done well, and the idea of a future with a contest like this is original and pretty cool. The idea of a soulless corporation trying to gain obscene wealth and crushing the the spirit of the contest sounds exactly like what would happen in reality. Also, I think the portrayal of online friendships was accurate. The 80s references reached the point of absurdity.
