The Twins of Strathnaver by Rachael Wright
"Let me just start by saying I am a history nerd so that part of this story really intrigued me. I also loved the addition of those snarky ghosts! They were probably my favorite characters.

Wright did a beautiful job of painting the landscape of Scotland and making the reader feel as though they were plopped right into the village with the twins. At first the dialogue took a few rereads but as the story progressed, I was speaking like a true Scot in my head! 😂

The mystery of the story pulls the reader along, as well as the authors timing. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going on and who or what was really the enemy.

Thank you Rachael Wright for letting me read an early copy of this book and making me now want to book a trip to Scotland!"

The Twins of Strathnaver by Rachael Wright
"This was my first ARC read. I do not usually accept ARCs because I am a little picky about what I read. I don’t know why I agreed. Maybe because of my love for the Outlander series? But I am so glad I did!

The twins of Strathnaver is a well researched, beautifully written story. It is a modern day ghost story with recent events, such as Princess Diana’s death, carefully interwoven in the book.

The writer, Rachael Wright’s writing style places you right into the Scottish Highlands with breathtaking described scenes.

At the heart of the story is Margaret, one of the twins, who longs for female companionship. It emphasises the importance of female camaraderie across generations, and even more important in today’s day and age.

It also tackles an important issue in a generation where we are always expected to be “fine.

“You aren’t all right. Margaret stared dumbfounded. “No one is asking that of you—especially not me. How could you be all right? Don’t force that burden on yourself. Be hurt and scared and pained now. Do that now and then begin to heal.

It emphasises the need for healing time and acceptance of personal pain.

“In that room, as in this one, Margaret felt the joy of female companionship, of a sacred, free space that became a home for her mind and heart. She was accepted by them, brought into the ring of their protection, a protection more potent than a man’s. Theirs was safety down through the strata of their souls and an understanding that required no difficult conversations. "

The Twins of Strathnaver by Rachael Wright
"I really enjoyed this book. The writing was beautiful and the imagery completely transported me into a new world!

The characters were easy to distinguish from one another and I loved the varying personalities. The dual POV worked well for this story.

This book is not like what I usually read so it was a really nice breath of fresh air. I highly recommend reading this one between your other reads when you're needing to switch things up. "
