All-American Muslim Girl by Nadine Jolie Courtney
"oh my god, i genuinely want to write a thorough, detailed review stating all my reasons why i thought this book honestly did more harm than good but i feel like launching myself into the sun would be an easier task 🤗

in essence, this book sounds amazing.

it's about allie, an american girl who grew up muslim by name and has no idea about the actual faith. this book spans over the course of her journey as she begins to learn more about her faith and the challenges and struggles that come with it

wow, fantastic, amazing, sign me up

the problem is.............................this book is filled with misinformation and total disregard of so many foundation concepts and beliefs of the religion. it's honestly so hard for me to rate this anything higher because i feel like it is so damaging to readers

it brings up so many controversial and complex issues and offers some terrible guidelines and advice on them and just AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT IF YOU AREN'T TRULY EDUCATED ON THE TOPIC

i can't even bring myself to mention specific parts of the book bc everytime i try to refer back to the quotes, i get this raging headache from all the grief this book has caused me, im truly sorry

the ending was actually really beautiful, that was the only part of the book that i thought showed a really beautiful representation of family and faith and forgiveness. but i dont see how that can redeem all the other extremely probl*matic aspects of the book

also side note, the story itself didn't have much going for it, nothing really happens and i got bored real quick. the romance lacks so much flavour. i'm supposed to be rooting for these kids beyond everything and i just found it to be so. bland. and. boring. 😷😷😷

sorry to everyone for this tragedy.

buddy read with ameerah 💖"

Yeah.... No. 2.5 at best.
Not really good at all. I started skipping at the end because it was so slow and included so much time dragging the story out.
It is very much YA with an extremely unnecessary romance and a protagonist who is both overly confident, risky, and only has doubts when she specifically writes them out.
The only good thing about this was the actual mystery. I didn't know who the murderer was until it was revealed. That was good. However, it had the VERY cliche twist where one person is said to be the killer but the protagonist sees holes in their stories and find the "real" killer right after.

Slight spoilers:

The romance was so bland. It had no reason to happen except for the sake of having it in there. No true chemistry was shown either. It leads to a conflict of interest, too.
Secondly, the protagonist being annoyingly risky in obviously dangerous situations could only make sense to young readers. She should have had enough sense to NOT do many of the things she did. Also, the "I can't tell anyone about the threats because they will stop me," doesn't make a lot of sense because she was only doing it for school. Yeah, she is on a lead and has the possibility to solve the case, but risk her life in the process? For schoolwork? I can't buy it, especially since she never seemed to be interested in it outside of school or that framework.
Also, the damsel in distress moments are boring. You see them coming from a mile away. ]]>

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
"Rating this solely based on how much fun I had buddy reading this with my friend, cuz screw it, why not? This is a fun Cinderella story tailored specifically for anyone who enjoys Knives Out, reverse harems, and wish fulfillment stories for poor girls. There's just something satisfying about seeing a poor humble girl get a buttload of money while the rich don’t get anything. The mystery was surprisingly compelling: there were so many questions brought up, and every time there was a new development or answer, it would only unlock even more questions?! (“THIS MAKES NO DAMN SENSE! Compels me though…) I also surprisingly liked all of the characters; they all have strong personalities, unique qualities, and fun dialogue. Though I don’t buy the instant attraction some of the characters have with each other, the dynamics and relationships between them are interesting enough for me to not mind it. I would definitely be open to reading the sequel."
