The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter
"I've read this book about ten times and bought it at least four times because I keep giving my copies away to friends. Over time, I've come to see that it's not a perfect book - certain turns of phrase clunk, certain character traits don't ring true. But it's perfect to me, and no matter how many times I've read it, there are still passages that blow me away, move me to tears, and strike me as profoundly true and correct.

There are also lines that I've never noticed before that get my attention on each new read. Most recently, I fell in love with this one:

"As my mother once said to me, They're quite crazy, dear - men are. What you look for is one of them whose insanity is large enough, and calm and generous enough, to include you.""

An ABZ of Love by Inge Hegeler
"This was apparently one of Kurt Vonnegut's favourite books, and now it happens to be one of mine. I never thought I could find so much joy in Scandinavian sex education. The writing is completely frank, and it was intended for couples in their 30s and 40s. Reading through this "sex dictionary," you can see why it was revolutionary when it was first published in the early 1960s. Its entries cover everything from fetishes to loneliness to cunnilingus to child-rearing.

The illustrations are also pretty great."

Yes, I really enjoyed it until close to the ending, then I was wanting more or maybe less. I would still recommend reading it but I would choose The Humans over this one and also The Midnight Library -- I gave both of those novels 5 stars.

What I like about his science fiction is that makes you think about time - our present time as well as our past and future. I like his philosophical leanings -- how the author's love of philosophy and history are big parts of his books. The relationships in his books are really what his stories are about - intimacy - questioning how we live life and asking his readers to stop and think about the meaning of life. What is the most important in our lives? It is love and our relationships to those we love. ]]>
