“In real life maybe a happy ending isn't always being with a person you love, but instead, becoming the person you always wanted to be yourself.

Rock bottom. That’s where Amelia is at in her life and fledgling acting career, when she’s offered the job of her dreams. She’s to portray Gloria Diamond, a famous romance writer, and she’s been given a week’s access to the reclusive author. All is not as it seems in the life of this author, nor the memoir that this movie is going to be based on. Amelia’s inquisitive nature doesn’t let that get in her way, and she discovers that not only is Gloria hiding a secret past, but her son is too.

Top notch audiobook. I absolutely devoured this story and then promptly forgot to write this review. Jillian Cantor, and her narrators, Karissa Vacker and Cassandra Campbell keep you in suspense with the twists and turns and gently lead you to a satisfying conclusion.

No, no way! I don’t have hidden feelings for a man that is nearly twice my age, makes me feel things I’ve ever never felt before who also just so happens to be my fucking boss…right?

Set as a billionaire dark mafia romance, this story moves between an orphaned childhood, and the present world that Eva finds herself living in. When she lands her dream job at the fancy office she’s only dreamed of working at, she knows she is where her life begins again. Only to find herself at gunpoint, kidnapped, and in love with the unlikely billionaire. Most of this story does not take place in the office, but rather the unfolding of past and present, and the damage it does to relationships.

I will warn you this story tackles some hard trauma, it is labeled dark romance for a reason, and there are many passages that I was squeamish about. When reading an author’s debut novel you need to go in with an open mind. This goes doubly for independent authors. Where a big publishing house makes necessary adjustments to timelines, grammar, and just the overall feel of a story, Indie Authors don’t have that team. They rely on their trusty writing device, their friends & family, and beta readers if they have them. Support indie authors and their voices, because without them, we wouldn’t have authors at all.

“Where did you get that cookie? she demanded. “Waylay, I said. Naomi looked like she was going to slap it out of my hand, so I shoved the rest of it into my mouth.

When Naomi rides to the rescue of her estranged twin, you get the instant sense of impending doom. Needless to say, hours without her extra-large coffee, she walks into the nearest diner slash coffee shop (where her sister should be) and is immediately escorted out by angry townsfolk. When Knox, the brother of the local sheriff sees the commotion he volunteers to assist to take Naomi (not said twin) to the local jail. There ensues the mistaken identity, enemies to lovers, small town romance that we all love to read.

I blame my friends. I should have read this series sooner. I could blame myself too since they are chonky books. But it’s easier to place the blame on them, especially the one that bought me the series. Completely in jest, I love my book friends, and they almost never steer me wrong on stories I should read. The one liners, perfect chemistry, and hilarity that ensues in this story are something that I love to find in my reads. This is most definitely going to the top of best books this month, if not the year.
