Thanks, Chantel. I was surprised how much I liked this book despite its dark themes. ]]>

Their Double Lives by Jaime Lynn Hendricks
"Who knew REVENGE could be so much FUN⁉️

Jaime Lynn Hendricks has been hit or miss for me, since writing her fantastic debut-Finding Tessa-but with a strong average rating on ŷ two weeks before publication date, I decided to request the Audible, narrated by Emma Love. (7 hours 30 minutes @ 1x speed-or a one sitting binge of 5 hours @ 1.5 x )

Kim Valva is waitress at a posh New Jersey country club, who desperately needs money to pay for the life saving surgery that her beloved Goldendoodle Murphy needs. 🐶 She would do ANYTHING to save him. Recently broken up with a live in boyfriend, she can’t imagine losing Murphy too.

So when a mysterious caller identifying themself only as “The Stranger contacts her with an offer that would earn her all of the money she needs-she jumps at the chance without thinking it through. All she has to do is put a pill in a new member’s drink and when he dies, she’ll collect.
Easy Peasy. 😳

Her TARGET -Tony Fiore—Kim’s bad boy ex-boyfriend from high school-a guy she hasn’t seen for fifteen years, who apparently now goes by the name Anthony Fuller. Oops! She didn’t realize she would know her target.

BUT THEN SOMETHING GOES HORRIBLY WRONG

The VICTIM-his gorgeous fiancée, twenty-two-year-old PJ Walsh, dies at the dinner table instead.

Was it an accident or was someone else at the club recruited to poison PJ just as she had been called upon to spike Tony’s drink?

Who EXACTLY is the mastermind out for revenge? You will backtrack from the deadly dinner to the planning stages as you read/listen to find out.

This is a SNARKY, ENTERTAINING story which grabbed me from the opening chapter, so grab the 🍿and settle in for all of the MANY TWISTS and TURNS!!

I enjoyed the narration by Emma Love, who even gave PJ, two voices, to identify which role she was currently playing.

AVAILABLE May 20, 2025.

Thank You to Highbridge Audio for the gifted Audiobook provided through NetGalley Shelf. As always, these are my candid thoughts!"

Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann

I want to first state that I’ve never read anything by this author! But I’ll start looking for more of her work in the future

As I sit back and try to collect my thoughts after this particular read

The first few chapters my mind had wondered how in the blazes did somebody actually think that this was a romance read, all I could think about was how sad and heartbreaking this story was ... as continue to read it, I could see something growing from it

Now I'm going to be completely honest and tell you that I did not read anyone's review on this book because of the fear of someone giving away the storyline

All I can say is that this book was recommended to me several times this year by a few of my friends I'd like to thank them for that recommendation

This story is about how Cora and Dean had gone from mortal enemies to two people thrown into the black pits of Hell together and somehow came out Still Breathing

I love everything about this book. The story, the characters, the twist and turn of the plot, will you struggle at times with some of the things that you read Hell yeah but before you realize it you be at the EPILOGUE SAYING HELL YEAH IT WAS ALL WORTH IT

Few dislikes

Omfg, I’m sorry but Mandy got on my last nerve…
I was absolutely dumbfounded, sitting slack-jawed with some of damn things that came out of her mouth after all the trauma that Cora and Dean went through Mandy just wanted to start back up like nothing happen . It just ticked me off

So, I need to say this once again in case you didn’t read it the 1st time Oh my gosh. This book. Just.. wow. It completely blew me away in the absolute best way possible. I’ll be recommending this book to EVERYONE and ANYON!

Lotus by Jennifer Hartmann
"3 - 3.5 Stars

***PLEASE READ:
Not to be snarky, but kinda irritated...Before starting this book, I inadvertently scrolled past a review that had the meaning behind "lotus" spelled out in the first line of the review. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when it became clear while reading that the meaning was supposed to have been a mystery that spanned the whole book, I got kind of mad about it. I think it spoiled what would have been a really impactful moment in the book for me and I think it had an effect on my end rating. So just a friendly reminder to us all to spoiler tag/mark/warn. Please.

Moving on....

I didn't LOVE this the same way that I loved THIS Hartmann gem, but that's ok. I still enjoyed it.

I liked most of the characters (especially Oliver, obviously), but I didn't love Sydney. I didn't actively dislike her by any means...she just felt a little too Manic Pixie Dream Girl-esque for my preference. But that's on me.

Otherwise, I enjoyed this on the whole. I can definitely see myself re-reading this in the future and potentially upgrading my rating. After all, reading this on the heels of Still Beating was probably an unfairly tall order for any book."

This book - I don't even know how to describe this one. I picked it up after a friend of mine recommended it without even reading the synopsis.

40 women are kept in an underground bunker with guards watching over them who never speak a word to the women. They are not allowed to touch or comfort each other. This book is told from the first person POV of the youngest woman who is only a teenager at the start of the book. She remains nameless other than being called The Child by the other women. She is the only one that has no recollection of life outside the bunker prior to her imprisonment.

This book is full of ambiguity, but instead of turning me away, it pulled me in even more. I found myself desperate for answers to so many questions and while most of them remained unanswered by the end (something that normally frustrates me), I understood why the author chose that route. Because of that, it didn’t bother me as much as it usually would. It’s a short, bleak read that delivers a powerful impact and stayed with me long after I finished it.

Enemies to lovers
Fun banter

This was a fun and fast-paced cat and mouse game between a witch and a witch hunter. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish and immediately started the second book in the duology after finishing this one. ]]>

Solid 4 maybe even 4.5 stars.

Still Beating is described as a dark romance but I don't know if that is actually an accurate description because it is much more than that. It is a story of surviving a life-changing event and the trauma bonds that form from such an event.

This book grabbed me from the start. I listened to the audiobook throughout the day and then continued reading on my Kindle late into the night because I just couldn't stop myself. This book is dark, and I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings and reading the synopsis before reading it. This was my first Jennifer Hartmann book but I will definitely be checking out her backlog of books. ]]>
