A Gambler's Jury by Victor Methos
"Wow, this book was phenomenal!! I love attorney Dani Rollins! Her character was relatable, likable, and just kick *ss awesome!! With compassion for the underdogs that I wish more people had. Teddy Thorne was a great character as well. I felt for him so much and just enjoyed his personality! I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!"

Long Bright River by Liz Moore
"“Long Bright River, by Liz Moore

5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I purchased a copy of this book at the time of its release, in 2020, but only now I decided to read it because I want to watch the adaptation for the TV, which was recently released.

This was my second book by this author, after the so popular and highly praised “The Gods of the Woods, which did not impress me, so I had low expectations about this one.

It turned out to be a great drama mystery

As soon as I started reading I felt involved and enthralled by the writing and storytelling, hence my ratings.

I liked the fact that the main protagonist was not that smart and did not receive extra powers. Her main trait is being human, so very human, and although not very likeable, I so sympathized with her. Her pain, vulnerability and insecurity were very real.

The main topic is heartbreaking and so is the development of the story, which alternates between “then and “now.

The story is told in first person and by a single perspective.

Its pacing is very slow but still very interesting.

I thought that the character’s development was skillfully executed.

This is a honest portrayal of what it’s like to grow up in a family and community devastated by addiction.

The story explores police corruption, misogyny, abuse, homelessness, family conflict and violence.

I read the ebook while simultaneously listening to the audiobook narrated by Allyson Ryan, who I thought did a great job.

ebook (Kobo): 496 pages (default), 121k words

PS. Some of my trusted reviewers rated this book as one or two stars and I do respect their opinion. It shows that we all have different perspectives and that it’s absolutely normal."
