bookshelves: dnf, memoir
This was a slow-paced memoir. Tom was guarded
on what he'd share with readers. I got to the 74%
mark and stopped. There was no chapter on "Blue
Bloods" which was relegated to the epilogue. Gave
this 2.5 stars.

Tom was selected for the 20th Century Fox "New
Talent" dept, where each person was taught acting,
dancing, and some comedy. The studio pictured him
as a leading man, whereas he liked some smaller
films, with quirky characters.

After the New Talent Dept. folded, Tom had 2 small
roles in Fox movies.

Tom did commercials & "the Dating Game" before
he was connected to Fox. Tom married Jacki, a model,
who had a 3 yr old son. Tom had been an actor about
10 yrs when he modeled for print ads. He groused
when the media later said he was a model before he
became an actor. When it was the other way around.

Tom said every actor had a critic on his shoulder.
He gained some confidence w/ the western Hackett
Brothers series. He learned how to ride a horse.
He felt close to the actors, wranglers and crew who
loved westerns.

He got the lead for "Magnum PI" just before director
Spielberg chose him for "Indiana Jones." Tom wanted
to do both. CBS & Universal pictures wouldn't agree
to this. He contracted for Magnum 1st. Then there
was a SAG strike.

Tom said very little about wife Jacki and 2nd wife
Jillie. He was a private person. Sharing a few+ thoughts
on each lady would not have been a betrayal of trust.

Tom in interviews is personable & witty, but the book
mostly lacked humor. ]]>

DNF at 38%. As a girl we went to the yearly community
festival benefitting a non-profit. We as kids liked cotton
candy (once a year!). This story reminded me of cotton
candy.

The MCs kissed as teens. Years later divorced (duke) Leo
had a foundation supporting local artisans. Curvy artist
Juno associated w/ bohemians and painted the H's half-
brother in the nearly nude. Leo wanted Susan Macey for
her nice dowry. The MCs seemed a tad bland.

Mia Vincy wrote the v. good A Wicked Kind of Husband,
so this one does not seem up to her own standards. Sorry. ]]>

Regency England. Bravo to the story, the dialogue, and
the witty and heart-felt characters!

Joshua, a brusque, widowed industrialist, & Cassie, relative
of a duchess, agreed to a marriage of convenience encour-
aged by her father. Joshua valued efficiency, promoted
investments & was constantly on the go. Cassie served as
the 'rock' of her family of drama-prone younger sisters &
her mother, an opium addict. Cassie kept 'all the plates
in the air.'

The H +h were wed and bed and then lead separate lives x2
yrs. Then re-connected. Josh covered his vulnerability with
busyness & Cassie with politeness. They gradually grew
closer & their love felt tangible. The only aspect I'd change-
the H rejected the h a few times. He had a rationale-natch!

Hopefully in future, Cassie's sibs will grow beyond their attn
seeking tendencies.

4 stars. A good debut novel, which won the RITA! ]]>

Read this Kindle non-fiction book about dogs.
Gave it 4 stars.

Margaret Lee was single when she moved from
Texas to the Pacific Northwest. Her birth family
was not close, and a couple members most likely
had undiagnosed mental issues.

Margaret, the author, was never permitted to
own a dog. She wanted a dog for the first time
as an adult. She recounted her witty and
poignant story of love for her dog pack. And
what they taught her- unconventional love &
to calm herself at times.

The author rescued 5 special needs dogs. Lenny,
a gentle dog who had a history of dogs biting him.
He was prone to seizures. Ruby @ 70 pounds
felt most comfortable w/ Panzer. Panzer became
large and sturdy and disliked young kids. Cowboy
was sweet and goofy and scared at times, and
Panzer disliked him. Moose was a puppy thrown
out of a truck in a garbage bag & and a woman
turned the dog into police. The author heard Moose
cry out in an outdoor kennel, in his own feces, &
no food or water. The vet said he had mange
and worms.

The author learned the quirks of each dog IE Ruby
was obsessed w/ her food and forbade other dogs
touching it. Moose was fearless IE he challenged a
bull and another time a horse, nearby his country
home. Moose was scared & refused to walk on
linoleum & preferred to walk on grass. He could be
aggressive at times with the other animals & his
pack. He jumped her 4 foot fence, so she had a
6 foot fence installed instead. And also an invisible
fence.

Margaret relied on her first spouse, then her second
to help her w/ the care & playtime of the dogs and to
to resolve tension between dogs. She felt Tommy &
Corday were the best of her dog trainers. And her
animal- loving neighbors Angela & Stan helped in
many ways.

Margaret was told Moose might have some pit bull
heritage. She feared he would be put down by the
police if he bit another animal or person. So she
had his DNA tested, likewise for the others in the
pack. Moose was part Lab & part Russell Terrier.

Margaret visited Texas to help arrange care for her
ailing, elderly parents, along with being a police
detective herself.

Margaret wanted all her dogs to thrive and to be
safe. She spoke of animals and people reading each
others' emotions. But she had a special place in her
heart for Moose. ]]>
