I’m still liking this series and I AM invested in the main overarching series plot but this installation on its own was rocky. SUPPOSEDLY we’re deep on the Russian side of the vampire world, dealing with Eastern European parts of this universe, but it is almost impossible to tell apart from the Boston and American-centered stuff we’ve seen in earlier parts of the series. Sure, their NAMES are Russian, but like…�. That’s it.

Even the parts that hop back to Germany and the German darkhaven and Andreas Reichen don’t feel distinct at all. It’s getting harder to ignore that this supposedly global story is incredibly homogenous.

Also if you’re gonna introduce a small child with quite possibly the coolest single breedmate power yet maybe try to make all the action and characters around her just as cool? The MC, Dylan, has one of the neater special powers of the Breedmates in the series so far, but her own storyline in this one was dull in comparison to everything else going on in it. Rio’s self-hatred got a little old, too, as the thing went on. I still enjoyed it enough to pick up the next one, but this might’ve been the weakest installment so far.
