Then it got bogged down in retroactive exposition and pseudoscience, to where I felt like I was doing tons of homework for a class I didn't need in order to graduate. The author is talented to be sure, the prose impressive. Even then, the buttery sunlight can dapple the hemlock pines all it wants, but all the poetic language in the world won't make for a more cohesive story. "
