This volume covers Lincoln's early years. Before he was president, or even congressman, really. I couldn't help feeling that this subject matter deserves a second volume from this author. The book left me feeling...incomplete. Otherwise, it was excellent. The balance between narrative and eyewitness accounts was well done. I just wish there was a second volume covering Lincoln's time in congress all the way through to his election as president. All in all, a worthy effort and well worth the time spent.

Clear, concise, and even a bit poetic, this book fills a gap in the Lincoln legacy. While it didn't present all that much new information about Lincoln, the information that was presented was presented with style and aplomb. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Lincoln's connection and interaction with the founding fathers. That was the main theme of this biography. A very good effort.

A modern thriller/spy novel that delivers on so many levels, this one got full marks from me. The plot revolves around Nat, a forty-something employee of Her Majesty's service. He meets up with Ed, who initially approaches him on the badminton court. What Nat doesn't realize for some time is that Ed is a double agent, moonlighting for Mother Russia. The main plot of the book begs the question: when are personal loyalties sacrosanct? What risks are acceptable to benefit the common good? Overall a very good book.

I must confess, I binge-read this novel, cover to cover in less than 24 hours. The story was captivating, just captivating. Famed Israeli art restorer (and assassin) Gabriel Allon is asked to look into a supposed suicide inside the Vatican. What he finds involves stolen antiquities, money laundering, and a secret the pope doesn't want made public. I won't go into the plot more than that; if you are a follower of the author's series, this book definitely merits your attention.
